summer racing – a glance at my calendar

Summer racing in Florida is a bit tricky – it’s generally so hot that we cut back to 5Ks when the rest of the country is ramping up for half and full marathon season. While this doesn’t sound incredibly exciting, my calendar is locked and loaded for the next few months! Let’s check it out!

B.A.A. 10 K (Boston, Massachusetts) – June 23

First up, I have the B.A.A. 10K! Completing this race means seven states completed in my Run 50 States goal, and I can’t wait! I’m also pretty excited for the unicorn medal. Little man will participate as well, in the free youth races offered while I’m running the 10k!

AJC Peachtree Road Race (Atlanta, Georgia) – July 4

The Peachtree Road Race has been on my bucket list for years. Scheduling is hard because it falls on the 4th of July, but that’s never going to change. A few months ago, when the lottery opened, I submitted my name and literally jumped for joy to be selected! Not only will I get to race my favorite distance at a brand new race, but I have the added bonus of spending time with my running friend Amy for the 50th anniversary of this summer racing classic!

IOA/Jaguars Stadium Challenge 5K (Jacksonville, FL) – August 10

This race is a fun one to do alone or with the whole family. It’s an evening event and runners get to finish up their miles with a lap of the TIAA Stadium field. There are great medals, free beer for runners and a really fun party vibe that mostly makes up for having to run up and down the concourse ramps several times.

Bimbo Global Energy 5K/10K (Orlando, FL) – September 22

Signing up for this race was kind of sort of a mistake. I misread the date and registered, thinking I would be in Orlando for a conference with Mr PugRunner. Turns out I was a month off. Oops. It’s not so far of a drive that I can’t make it work, though, and since Meghan runs this one often, I can give it a go. It’s nice to have a new race on the books. Rumor has it the post-race treat is grilled cheese, so I’m all in.

Things start back to normal in Florida race-land in October, so I will be gearing up for some larger events at that time. I also still have some room on the schedule if another fun race appeals to me, and I’m hoping something will come up along the way so I can boost my race numbers for 2019.

I’m joining up with Fridays With Fairytales & Fitness. Head on over and check them out!

I can’t fathom running in Florida this late. Or even the southeast really as I imagine Atl is no peach, no pun intended

  4. I’d love to do the Peachtree 10K someday. It’s the largest 10K in the country, isn’t it?

That’s the rumor! I know it’s going to be slow and crowded and there won’t be a medal (You can pay extra for one, but this year’s is not so pretty), but I’m so excited for the experience.

  5. Great line up of races! And, yay for the BAA 10K! I’ll be running this one too – how long will you be in Boston?

    • runswithpugs says:

Will you?? It would be great if we could cross paths beforehand! We will be bouncing back and forth between Boston and Cape Cod from Friday through Wednesday.

      • Oh great – nice time to be on the Cape! Maybe we can find a spot on the Commons to meet up before the race. My brother’s driving us in so let me find out when we’re heading in.

Ah! I missed this! I wasn’t on my comments and I am so sad!!! 🙁 We took an uber in and I was just in a complete daze – so many people, so many things going on! I felt so out of my element just because like I said – these were all new runners and new things. I hope your race went well with your brother!

  6. I would love to run in Boston sometime and the Peachtree race always looks like a blast. A fun Summer racing schedule for you

I’m pretty excited that everything fell into place the way it did. It would have been nice to get a race in Maine while we are here, but I will take what I can get! I can’t wait for Peachtree!

I’ve always wanted to do the Peachtree Road Race – it looks like so much fun!

Sounds like a really fun and busy summer! I ran the Atlanta Marathon in March and the city was easy to get around. The public transportation was easy to navigate. Good luck!
