That’s right! The #StreakingWithTheCOOLKIDS daily streak is at the halfway point and things are going well! I’ve struggled a bit this week with weather and motivation, but what can you do? Let’s check in to see how the week went.
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.87 miles, walking
Home from Orlando, I was glad to be back in my routine. Sometimes, it’s nice to know what to expect in the day. The day started with a walk, and then I fell into laundry and all the things I needed to get done for the week.
In the evening, we had dinner with some dear friends who we never get to see socially. It reminds us that we need to make more of an effort to get together with people outside of professional settings.
Monday
- Cardio: 7.87 miles, walking + running
Nope, not a great run at all. It’s hard to breathe, the sun burns, and everything is just so much harder.
I didn’t get to go to the gym either: I had a dogsitting gig, and I had to get A to and from work. I wasn’t mad about it at all, but I do need to prioritize getting back to strength.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 4.14 miles, running + walking
Again, not a great run. And again, no gym. I had a meeting and dog sitting again.
Yes, I was bummed about it, but I didn’t have much time to dwell. Instead, I just put my energy into all the other things I had going on.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.42 miles, walking
Up and out early. Way early.
I promised to take the kids to the beach, so we had to leave early. Part of that was to get parking, and the other part was to beat the heat. It was a brutal day, and we pushed it too hard. All three of us got a little too much sun, and I felt awful by the time we got home. I am pretty sure I was in bed by 8:30 that night.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.88 miles, running + walking
Another crap outing. I must have slept strangely, because my neck really started hurting. We walked more than we ran and I was sad about it.
On the plus side, I did get to the gym. It was leg day, and I figured that wouldn’t bother my neck. I was right, and also glad I went.
Friday
- Cardio: 8.81 miles, running + walking
Oh, the vibes are OFF. It was another awful run. Are you noticing a theme? Even worse, I got out of the house by 5:30, hoping to meet up with J at 6. At 6, I realized we weren’t meeting til 6:30. Sigh.
On the plus side, Mr PugRunner and I had a date night. We went to a wine bar and then a new to us restaurant. It was really nice, and a highlight of the week.
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.41 miles, walking
Another super early morning. Today felt better and more hopeful. My neck is not perfect but in the morning, it feels ok. I walked.
And then I picked up A’s girlfriend and we went to the school to work on marching props. It was fun, and productive.
Thoughts + Goals
I will be better about the gym this week, especially considering my neck is on the mend.
A is off to band camp for the week. too. I’m so excited for him, and can’t wait to see his concert. He will be playing three instruments while he’s there (he was planning to do clarinet and alto sax, but there is a need for tenor sax, so they will loan him one and he will get some time on that as well).
On a personal note, he was supposed to take his driving test this week. We scheduled it for Friday, but he ended up having to work. We decided to postpone until he is back from camp, since he won’t have a car there anyway. It’s happening, I swear!
Also this week, I’m gettin started on my sourdough starter. Promise. This week, I just didn’t feel like filming much personal content and I do want to document this journey.
How was your week in training? Anyone else having an off week? Anyone else tweak their neck by sleeping wrong?

Sorry you had a rough week with running, but you still logged a lot of miles!
I hope your neck is better soon!
runswithpugs says
It is MUCH better today. I’m so grateful!
Jenny says
Well, it happens! My calf is having an off-week (the rest of me is good.) But you still got out there every day and made it to the gym for leg day- I call that a win. On Sally McRae’s podcast she always talks about how important it is to consistently do SOMETHING every day, even if it wasn’t your planned workout. So, you did well!
runswithpugs says
I am all about the SOMETHING. And I very much do that.
Deborah Brooks says
I never adapt tot he heat and honestly don’t know how you Florida people do it! At least, you did not have all that crazy rain and flooding. We are entering a heat wave this week-already dreading it. Stay cool
runswithpugs says
This year is exponentially worse for some reason. Usually it sucks but this year I have come home feeling absolutely sick some days. So I’m just doing what feels right. Today, I ran four miles, with 2-3 minutes of walking in between, and then walked a while Not ideal, but what can you do?
The floods are awful. I am so sad for our friends down south.

My cardio has been spot-on, but the strength work has bee OFF as well. My upper-body sessions have been shorter than usual and the lower-body work has been very hit/miss. I’m hoping to get back in sync this week…
runswithpugs says
I guess it happens from time to time. We will get there!
Darlene S. Cardillo says
I thought about a walk treat but then there was work and no gym.
Hoping I will be more active this week.
A new restaurant would be a highlight to me too.
runswithpugs says
I do love trying new places. It makes me happy.
San says
Ugh, I hate when a week feels off… you are hoping the *next* run will feel better and then it doesn’t. Awful. Hope the next week is going to be much better.
Super intrigued about your sourdough starter… are you new to sourdough baking? What’s the backstory (sorry if I missed it). I’ve been keeping one alive for 4 years now! 🙂
runswithpugs says
I have never made sourdough in my life. I saw a TikTok on making muffins with sourdough discard, and I was feeling ADHDy and just ordered a dehydrated starter and a proofing/baking kit. Now I have to work up the nerve to start the starter.
Wendy says
Last week was an off week for me. I’m not sure what it was, but RA was flaring and people were mean…just off. I’m feeling more optimistic about this week even though it’s going to be a hot one. Great job on the streak! You got this!
runswithpugs says
I’m sorry people were mean. You don’t deserve that. I hope this week is better for all of us.
Jessie says
ugh, neck pain is so annoying! Hopefully that goes away. You are a trooper in that heat! I can’t imagine, it’s so draining! I hope next week feels better.
runswithpugs says
We really don’t have a choice. this is the weather, and that’s all there is to it. Yuck. 🙁 I hear you all are having a heat wave and I hope you stay safe.
melissa says
Yay for keeping up with the streak – and nice miles! Sorry about the neck pain – I hope it goes away soon. neck pain is something you forget about how awful it is – until it’s there! It’s so intrusive! Good luck with future drivers tests, camp, etc. Busy time of year! And now I want to go on a date night to a wine bar 🙂
runswithpugs says
I am all for wine bar date nights! i’m totally going to need all the luck. It’s a lot going on.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
My week was totally off since I had to work a few more days than normal. I wanted to keep all of my social outings, but I felt like the house was falling apart since I didn’t have time to be home and do my chores! It’s going to be another crazy week for me, but I’m still going to have my fun 🙂 (and oddly, I also have a sore/stiff neck. What’s going on!…)
runswithpugs says
that’s crazy that we both had stiff necks! Probably something in the water lol! I do have some social outings this week, and I am clinging to them all with both hands.
Debbie says
Sorry you had an off week and hope your neck is feeling better. Here’s to a much better current week!
runswithpugs says
It’s doing ok. It was much better but I slept weird again. Sigh.
