The first Tuesday of December is Giving Tuesday, the annual day of celebrating generosity. There are so many incredible organizations and initiatives out in the world, but I’m sure we all have programs about which we are passionate. Here are some of mine.
Our High School Band
The majority of our charitable spending goes directly to A’s band. With an award winning marching band, wind ensemble, and jazz band, the department is always in need of funds to cover music, transportation, registration, staff, uniforms, and so much more. The costs of running a successful music program can be staggering, and we try to be as supportive as we can, with our time and with fundraising.
Coastal Pug Rescue
Of course, one of my favorite charities would relate to supporting pug rescue. Our family has rescued several pugs through the years, and while we aren’t ready for another dog right now (or are we?), Coastal Pug Rescue is an incredible, local to me, organization. They are really making a name for themselves in our community, and do a great job of caring for their pugs, and finding them the best foster and forever homes. Want to help? You can donate directly here or buy one of their Deck The Pugs shirts, with proceeds going to their pugs’ medical care.
Marathon High
Another great local cause for Giving Tuesday brings us back to running. Marathon High is a fantastic free after-school program for public high schools in Northeast Florida. They challenge local teenagers to run a half-marathon while experiencing and learning the benefits of goal setting, self-respect, leadership, teamwork, improved health, and commitment week after week for four months. I often see these determined kiddos are races, both running and volunteering, and they deserve the best. To help, you can donate here!
Where are your favorite charities to give back to, on Giving Tuesday and every day?

I wish we could give to every group, but we start local and then move our ripple outward.

I love the idea of Marathon High and the self discipline, leadership, and camaraderie it surely instills in those students. Those pugs under that palm tree are pretty cute, too! 😀

It’s such a great program. A hates running and we aren’t in the Jacksonville area, but it does such wonderful things for those kids.

I agree… it is important to give back.
I usually donate to ones that support cures for awful diseases.

That’s so amazing. There are just so many wonderful organizations who can benefit.

It is nice to give back to local charities that help your community. I’m doing the same with the local food bank

That’s awesome!
