Friends, Florida is going THROUGH it. Frost, ice, and all the wintery things we never get to see are here, and I’m not at all mad about it. It would seem I’m more of a winter creature after all.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.88 miles, walking
Happy December! It’s the last month of the year and time to get moving on wrapping things up. Literally and figuratively! Of course, I got in my miles and took the dogs for a nice walk. They really thrive in the cooler temperatures. It’s so much easier for their breathing.
And then Mr PugRunner and I went to a fun Christmas Pop Up. The theme was Christmas Vacation, and we had so much fun trying differing cocktails!
Monday
- Cardio: 6.17 miles, running + .43 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Happy, happy Monday! We were back to the regular schedule and everyone was off to work, school, and activities. I had the most glorious sunrise run, and I was just so happy to be out there.
I also got to the gym, and did a leg workout. I hate to do it right after a run, but that’s just how the schedule worked out. Yes, it led to a few days of soreness, but that was ok.
I had a nail appointment, and then hustled home to pick up A from school. This time of year is proving to be difficult with only two cars, so we are doing the best we can.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 7.25 miles, running + .69 miles, walking
As I’m sure you can see, the cooler temperatures are prevailing. It makes runs so much easier and pleasant. I love not being a soaking wet, sweaty mess after each workout session, and it’s worth that shock to the system when I first head out. I met Julia for some miles and felt great, despite that little bit of Monday soreness.
In the evening, I had a board meeting, and thank goodness that went quickly.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 3.98 miles, walking
I slept in a little bit and ended up having to rush to make a breakfast meeting.
It was incredibly productive and I got a ton done. Those are my favorite meetings.
Thursday
- Cardio: 6.4 miles, running + 1.04 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
I met up with J for our morning miles, on what was probably the coldest morning of the week. Brrr. That sun did come up pretty fast, and so it got warm fast. It’s so hard to plan outfits like this.
In the evening, I took A and his girlfriend on a bit of a wild goose chase to an ASL event. Once a quarter, he can choose to do a 4 minute video or attend an event put on by the local Deaf & Blind school, and he usually opts for the event. Last quarter, they went to a volleyball game, and on this night, they went to a cookie decorating night. The location changed on the fly so we had to do some driving to get there but it all worked out.
Friday
- Cardio: 6.59 miles, running + .34 miles, walking
TGIF for sure! J had to be done quickly, again, but I stayed out for quite a while.
I got cleaned up, tried to plow through some deadlines, and then Mr PugRunner and I went to see Wicked. My confession is that I read the book a long time ago, didn’t love the musical (loved the songs but didn’t love the way they handled the plot), and was one the fence. I’ve been seeing some of the musical numbers on social media and decided to give it a go, and I regret nothing. In fact, I still haven’t processed everything I saw on that screen, and need to go back again. Yes, I wept and no, I cannot wait for part two.
From there, we went to see A perform in his school’s winter showcase. Due to the number of students in the arts, we split the show into two parts, with jazz and wind ensemble as part of the lineup on Friday night. As always, they did so well.
Saturday
- Cardio: Spiked Cider 5K
Happy race day! With a start time of 9:30 AM (unheard of around here), we had a bit of a lazy morning before heading an hour away to the venue. I’ll recap the whole thing on Wednesday as part of the Runners Roundup, but it was so much fun!
We had lunch together, and then I was in for a nap before going to volunteer at night two of the showcase.
Thoughts + Goals
Things are moving forward. In not ideal news, my half marathon has changed to a 10K. It’s fine, but now I have to decide if I want to take on another half in the near future, just for myself.
Holidays are underway, and I’m doing my best to stay on top of all the things. It gets challenging this time of year, but we do our best.

We’re finally thawing out after being in the deep freeze last week! Today should be perfect running conditions and I’m looking forward to it!
I’ve heard great things about Wicked and I think I might have to go see it!
runswithpugs says
You have to. I can’t wait to go back to see it again.
Coco says
You always pack so much into a week!
Gosh, it’s a big difference between a half and a 10K — what happenned?
I’m hoping my daughter wants to see Wicked when she comes for Christmas. I’m not sure anyone else would be interested.

My friend’s knee is really bothering her so she asked if we could drop down. I’m more interested in being out there with her than the actual distance, so it’s not a problem, but I am training, so I’m going to have to do something with it.
Definitely try to see it. I can’t recommend it enough.
Deborah Brooks says
Enjoy your cooler weather while it lasts! Florida is iffy this time of the year. You packed a lot into your week! I have not seen wicked yet but I want to. Have a great week ahead!
runswithpugs says
See it!
We are going to have a warm week next week, which stinks. But what can you do?
Jenny says
Frost? Ice? We don’t get those things down here! I think it got down to 49 one night last week, and that was our coldest. But I love the cooler temps- running is SO MUCH EASIER.
Yes, there’s a ton of stuff going on now! We had our winter jazz concert this week and the wind ensemble and other concert bands are next week. And we also had a football game, which is very unusual for December! It’s a busy time, but all fun stuff.
I like the name of your race (Spiked Cider.) That is VERY late for a Florida race to start, but it sounds like it worked out with the cooler weather. Looking forward to the recap!
Debbie says
Enjoy your cooler Florida weather. We had a significant cold snap for this time of year and the wind was crazy.
We saw Wicked at the Kennedy Center in DC while it was playing there. I enjoyed it. Can you believe I’d never seen The Wizard of Oz all the way through, so I watched it the night before we saw Wicked. I have a tough time with musicals because I get bored and start day dreaming about something else during the songs and then get completely lost with the plot line. LOL
runswithpugs says
Oh wow! I can’t stand the wizard of oz… The flying monkeys terrified me and I hated the way Judy Garland was abused on set.
I am a musical junkie and it’s funny because the songs of Wicked are absolute fire, but I just hated the way they framed them on stage.
Melissa says
I just saw Wicked last night and loved it! I’ve seen the musical a few times but never read the book… you’re making me think maybe I should? Sorry to hear about your half marathon. You’re really putting in the miles each week though!
runswithpugs says
The book is … bizarre at best.I did enjoy it but apparently, I am an outlier lol. I just loved turning the perspective of a popular story.
Kimberly Hatting says
I’ve wanted to see the musical, but may have to settle for the film. It looks like a great show, and I know the music is out of this world! I need to get a big race on the calendar to up my MOJO. I only did two half marathon pins last year (I had a third one scheduled in the spring, but downgraded to the 10K due to my whacko spring schedule).
runswithpugs says
In my opinion, you won’t be settling at all! There is so much nuance to the story that just never came across on stage (for me, at least). You are going to LOVE it! Dancing Through Life is an absolute master class of choreography.
I haven’t run a half in three years. So maybe it’s time.
Susanne says
What a bummer about your half marathon! Why did they do that?
How nice for you to have some cooler weather! You did some good running there this week. I wouldn’t be a fan of doing a leg workout after running either!
I really have lost it with doing Christmas stuff. It all started when I worked as a nurse and sort of gave up on Christmas, and now when I can indulge in it, I don’t. I should try to get more engaged in the local Christmas activities! This autumn has been so busy that I’ve even skipped some of what I normally do at home during December. I need to up my game for next year.
runswithpugs says
Her knee is really bothering her, and she doesn’t want to push it. It’s fair.
If festivities bring you joy, go for it! Not everyone gets super into it. I’m not putting out all the things, but I am super happy with our tree and our lights.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Glad you liked Wicked! My daughter has never seen the Wizard of Oz (we got in a discussion about Wicked) so we will be watching that over Christmas break! I told her it was scary with those flying monkeys.
Kinda nice to sleep in a bit before a race! I didn’t start the Berlin marathon until 10:30… which wasn’t great because that makes for a long day!
runswithpugs says
the flying monkeys are a lot!
10:30 is soooo late!
Liz Dexter says
We had a big storm here with trees falling etc. so I had to do Sunday’s long run on Monday! It’s turned cold here in our mild way now. Hope you can find a half to do – I’m inexplicably signed up for our local one in May so am slowly building towards it.
runswithpugs says
Oh gosh! I hope everyone is ok! That sounds scary!
Stay warm – I love how you frame it that it’s “cold in our mild way” as that’s probably how it would be here.
I hope your training and building goes well!
