Each day is ticking closer to Christmas, and this is the week the spirit of the season really took over. I still have a few emore things to do, but these were the days of decorating, making cookies, and shopping. Oh, there was some wrapping too. I am on a roll.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.09 miles walking
Not going to lie. I was a little sore after Saturday’s race. The cold weather and uneven terrain got to me. It happens. I was just happy to be out and about.
We got up the rest of the lights on the house and that evening, Mr PugRunner and I headed out for dinner with my friend and her husband. It was nice to break bread (or chips and salsa) with a new couple and we had a great time.
Monday
- Cardio: 6.11 miles, running + .38 miles, walking
Somehow, I didn’t get a photo but this was a really great run. I just had things to do and people to see, so i must have missed out on the selfie. It happens.
Instead check out this donut and iced coffee. And the fact that I got sent to Whamhalla in Whamageddon.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 7.11 miles, running + .55 miles, walking
Happy Tuesday! It was another weird day with a little bit of gloom and humidity. I’m tired of it, but the run was good.
This was one of my favorite nights as we had our holiday date at Forgotten Tonic, for their special Miracle Christmas Pop Up Bar. The food is incredible, too, and it was nice to see some of the Nights Of Lights on a quieter night. Traffic was awful and we almost missed our reservation, but we got there just in time! This is my favorite way to capture the spirit of the season, and our night did not disappoint!
Wednesday
- Cardio: 3.96 miles, walking
I was having a terrible time with allergies. I think the freezing cold to sudden warmth brought something into bloom that absolutely wrecked me. The good news is that some meds cleared me right up so I could have an awesome day.
And then my parents came over! Mr PugRunner took my stepdad to the movies to see Gladiator 2 and my mom and I got lunch and made four batches of Christmas cookies! Amazing! It was really the best day, and I am so mad I didn’t get a picture of us in action.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.84 miles, running + .65 miles walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
I was feeling all the way better, which was a great thing. I met J for our morning run and it was awesome. Also, peep the pug. We got the Bark advent calendar for them, and they are loving opening up the daily doors to get treats or toys.
A had a concert playing with middle school students that night, so we chilled at home with some holiday movies. It was nice.
Friday
- Cardio: 6.15 miles, running + .63 miles, walking
TGIF! Cold and clear, just how I like it!
I decided that today was the day to hit the mall and I invited Mr PugRunner to join. He suggested we get lunch, and I agreed, with the caveat that we get salads and then get a Christmas Tree Snack Cake ice cream at The Yard. Done.
I really wanted the milkshake version (it was prettier), but it was huge. As it is, I couldn’t finish this either. However, I love me some Christmas Tree Snack Cakes so it was worth it. We shopped a bit and then called it a night. I started wrapping some of the gifts we had in the house and we ended the week on a win.
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.03 miles, walking
Mr PugRunner agreed to get up early with me to get photos downtown with the lights still on. It’s a little dodgy down there and I’m not fully comfortable going on my own that early. It was a gorgeous morning, and the lights always fill me with that spirit of the season! I am so glad we did it.
Once we wrapped up our walk, we headed for coffee and breakfast. I wanted to try this split cup from my favorite coffee shop: the cup is divided in two so you can try two flavors! I got a dark chocolate peppermint mocha on one side and biscoff on the other. It was delicious.
In the evening, we went to a soup tasting party, which was a lovely time with friends.
Thoughts + Goals
This week will be busy, as the spirit of the season continues! It’s the last week of the quarter and of school before the big Christmas and Hanukkah rush.
A has an opthamologist visit as well – last weekend he got some oil in his eye while he was at work and we had to take him to get checked out. Fortunately, everything checked out, but we just want the final approval from a specialist.
In the meantime, we have a few more events and outings planned, and are working on our vacation plans. Mr PugRunner and I will be going to the Pop Tart Bowl as part of his Christmas gift, and we have some other fun things to do more locally.
I think I am done with races for 2024 as well. And I’m ok with that.

Lovely seasonal fun! We just yesterday had our parkrun breakfast at a slightly dodgy pub (but I like running a parkrun that helps people access sport in a more deprived area, so …) and then I had my BookCrossing group’s not so secret santa in the afternoon so that’s Christmas done for me! Our lights on our high street are nice, though – we have them wrapped round all the trees permanently and programmed to be red, green and white at the moment.
runswithpugs says
Oh, your high street sounds lovely!
I think making running more accessible sounds great. We have two “local” park runs, but they are both about an hour from me and in literal parks. I am sure it’s amazing to get to visit different areas and welcome them to the sport.
We have our last book club of the year this week. I have a book for the gift exchange, and then I do an online gift exchange too. I just sent out that gift this morning!

It looks like a fun week of holiday experiences—and yummy treats, too! As usual, I am scrambling to get all my holiday planning and gifts done at the last minute. I guess I need to feel a sense of urgency, but this upcoming week is very busy with appointments, etc. Sigh—it will get done, right?
runswithpugs says
You have a lot going on. It’s ok to let some things go and not to worry about the urgency. You will get done what you get done, and that will be more than enough. Promise.
Deborah Brooks says
Looks like a fun week of seasonal treats and events. Glad you are still enjoying some cooler weather. Have a fab week ahead
runswithpugs says
They are saying it is slightly possible that we maybe might get snow for Christmas. I would lose my mind with joy.
Coco says
Wow, those lights are so pretty — and all those frosted treats look delicious!
Glad A’s eyes are Ok. I need to reschedule my appt that I canceled when I was sick …
runswithpugs says
Aren’t they gorgeous? We hate all the traffic they bring (locals call it “nights of brake lights”), but if you time it right, it works out great.
I’m glad to. He has basically 20/20 vision and wears glasses because of an astigmatism. I would hate for him to have been really hurt.
Debbie says
What a fun week! The nice thing about seeing the lights during an early morning walk is that you didn’t have all kinds of people in your pictures.
runswithpugs says
Precisely that! And of course, no one wants to get up that early, so it works out great.
Darlene Cardillo says
You are one busy lady. And you have so fun run and delicious eats.
And you manage to get in so many miles.
runswithpugs says
I try!
Kimberly Hatting says
ooh the Pop Tart Bowl! Iowa State is the Big-12 team headed there. They had a fantastic season, the best in school history. I was there for three of their home games 😉 Have fun!
runswithpugs says
I saw that! Obviously, I’m rooting Canes, but I’m hoping for a good game!
Melissa says
Love all the festivities!! I’m jealous of seeing you in shorts with holiday lights, ha – every holiday activity we do we’re all in big sweaters, etc. That Christmas tree snack cake ice cream looks so good! Your mileage is really coming along – hope you’re feeling good!
runswithpugs says
It’s supposed to get cold on Christmas, so maybe I’ll be in leggings then!
I am feeling pretty good. Some days I’m stiff, and I do want to be stronger, but that only comes with dedication at the gym. Sigh.
Jenny says
What a fun week! All your food and beverages look very festive. I can’t believe you got your husband to go shopping at the mall with you, ha ha. Mine would last about 15 minutes. And, I’m mad you didn’t post a photo of your cookies!
Nice job getting all your runs, walks, AND some strength in there too!
runswithpugs says
Now there were rules. I explained that this was going to be a linger and loiter trip, and if he wasn’t down with that, he could stay home.
LOL! I am making more cookies. I will get pictures!
Marcia says
Looks like you are making the most of the hectic holiday season. I’ve got all the wrapping to do (hopefully today) before the kids arrive on Wednesday. We have a trip to Europe planned for this summer, otherwise we’ll just be heading to ATL to visit Thing 1 and VA to move Thing 2 out of her dorm in May. I could totally use a beach vacay right now. In my dreams! Haha!
runswithpugs says
All that travel sounds amazing! I have to grab some gift cards to round out all the shopping, but it will happen.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I have many vacation thoughts, but need to solidify a plan for the family trip as soon as the kids are out of school. Hopefully it will be a camping adventure!
There were many delicious looking treats in your week. I highly support that! 🙂 Good job on the workouts this week!
