And here we are: the last time we will share our runfessions this year. It’s been one heck of a year, in so many ways, and I’m kind of glad to say goodbye. Of course, I have no idea what 2025 will bring, so maybe the grass is greener on the other side? I guess we will have to wait and see.
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
Let’s Start By Runfessing…
I was sad I didn’t get to run a holiday themed race this December. It’s not the end of the world, of course, but you know how I love all the festive things. That being said, I made the Spiked Apple 5K as festive as possible and enjoyed every moment of that.
Next, I’ll Runfess…
That it’s going to be a bit of a quiet Christmas this year, and I’m ok with that. While I love some of the hustle and bustle, I am also quite happy to snuggle in with a good book and a glass of wine and just let the day go by.
My Next Runfession Is…
That I don’t care how much traffic we get downtown, visiting Nights of Lights never gets old. No matter how many times I see it, there’s always something new to explore. I wish it wasn’t such a chaotic hassle to drive and park, but I will always find a way to make it work.
I Runfess…
That I miss the beach and was so glad to spend a morning there before the year ends! This is one of my favorite places to be, no matter how cold the weather is! Sad news is that this amazing food truck grouping has been asked to relocate. It’s a really unfortunate mess and I hope they find a new spot soon. I won’t be mad if it’s closer to home, but I wish them well!
Finally, I Would Runfess…
That I am both nervous and excited for the new year. It’s going to be a wild ride, I think, but we will do our best. I’m hopeful to have a strong year in running and wellness, with lots of races and even more community.
What would you share for this last runfession of the year?

I love the down time between Christmas and News Year’s — lots of reading and napping going on around here!
We don’t go to the big holidya light displays, but our neighbors have some fantastic ones.

Our neighborhood was a little lacking this year. But we have some great displays, so I was happy to visit those.

That’s so great you made the time to enjoy the holiday lights and the beach! Both are so good for the soul. I won’t lie, 2024 pretty much chewed us up and spit us out here but it gives you perspective. I’m going to be intentional with my time, lean into gratitude and celebrate everything in 2025. Life is too short!
runswithpugs says
Oh my gosh, why was it so awful???
Here’s looking forward to 2025!

There’s something to be said for some quiet time at home with a good book. I’ve been all about enjoying the downtime…2024 was a wild ride!
Enjoy your beach time – I love being by the water no matter what time of year.

I think I’m sneaking in another visit tomorrow!

We don’t have a holiday themed race anymore.. it was one of my favorites.
I do love the ocean… can’t wait for sunrises in February.

It will be here before you know it!

I runfess that every time I go to Spain I pack one more box up in the Netherlands in my mind. My kingdom for the beach, even in December, I can’t get enough of it. And speaking of lights… I love love love the lights so much and in Málaga it’s just absolutely stunning!!! they KNOW what to do to make people get in the spirit of things (and it’s crowded and I bet also really hard to park, but I’m always by foot). I runfess that I purposely ran downtown here at home the other night and was really disappointed that only HALF of the decorations and lights that we used to have are on display now. Bah.
I’m also cautiously optimistic about the new year. I can’t get my hopes up too much. I’m going to take things as they come and try to make things more positive for myself.

I’m with you. Let’s enter the new year cautiously and quietly and see what happens.
Your photos of Malaga were gorgeous! I would love to see “Old World” holiday celebrations.

Is the Nights of Lights event in St. Augustine? I believe you said you lived near there. Anyway, we spent one night there in January on our way to our bike ride across Florida. The lights were still up and it was magnificent! I can only imagine how fun it would be to see them leading up to Christmas.
Happy New Year, Jenn!

It is! You were super close but you were absolutely on a mission! We get so many people from all over to come see them, and it’s quite gorgeous. However, it’s BUSY! I like to go super early in the morning or after New Year’s. Things calm down a lot.
Happy New Year!

While I didn’t make it “downtown” yo see the big displays, my own neighborhood was very bright & festive. Most of my streak runs were in the dark hours, and I had many an opp to see so many beautiful displays (morning and evening). Here’s to a great 2025!
runswithpugs says
I wish more of our neighbors had displays running in the morning, but what can you do!
I’m hoping for great year for all of us!
