Friends, we really are just keeping our heads above water. The last straw was our garage door coming off the track. Here’s hoping we can just dive into Easter and enjoy a very chill holiday.

Sunday
- Cardio: 6.13 miles, walking
My morning started at a client’s house, and I really enjoyed the change of scenery. For one, the neighborhood was overrun with deer! We have a few that come through our neighborhood, but they are timid, stick to quieter areas, and bolt off quickly when they see people. These deer were brazen. One walked out maybe ten feet in front of me! And this baby pictured wasn’t scared at all! They also had no problem making meals out of people’s gardens! I’m sure that’s not popular, but I loved seeing them out and about.

I also got to take my client out in a little puppy stroller! How fun was that! We enjoyed some fresh air together and then I went for a run by myself. Everybody wins!

I got to head home around 4PM, and spent the rest of the night on the couch.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.51 miles, running + .37 miles, walking
- Strength: legs + abs, 40 minutes
I felt energized by a night at home and was up in time to catch a cool and lovely sunrise.

And then your girl made it to … the gym! That leg workout hurt, but it felt great! Yay!
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.47 miles, running + .61 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 40 minutes
Two days in the gym? Heck yes! But also, some great miles!

I booked a new client (a PUPPY!) and then in the afternoon, we met with a realtor to start talking about next steps for our house. It was a really positive conversation, and we decided that we are going to take the year to declutter, touch up, and prep the house in order to list in spring of next year. That way, we do it right, A gets to enjoy his senior year, and we also get to weather some of this unprecedented uncertainty without committing to a huge move.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 6.03 miles, running + .53 miles, walking
It was a busy day, but of course, we started with some miles. That’s how all the best days begin, in my opinion.

That evening, we were invited to the preview night of Dave’s Hot Chicken, and we decided to give ourselves a break and check it out. The food was really good and it’s nice to have another option for quick eating if we go to Town Center.

Thursday
- Cardio: 6.19 miles, running
Thursday promised to be more of a quiet day and I embraced it. Sometimes, you just need the time alone.

Two more meet and greets in the afternoon, which resulted in one booking and one promise of a booking once dates are solidified. I love it. My client list has nearly doubled in ten days.
Friday
- Cardio: 6.34 miles, running + .29 miles, walking
No school for the kiddos, so they hung out at the house before going off to work. I squeezed in a run and then lounged a bit. it’s been another long week. I really wanted to go see Death Of A Unicorn, but I didn’t have time.

Another cool thing? A has been trying to get his Eagle Project completed and has come up against some road blocks with corporate donations. He’s gone to different stores in uniform with a request letter and plans for his approved project, and has gotten positive feedback. However, when he follows up, no one responds or they keep putting him off. He was able to secure some financial donations from members of our troop and a contact for a lumber supplier from a leader and planned to move forward with that. On Friday, he got a response from the lumber supplier, pledging the wood he needs, and then he and his dad went to the grand opening of our new big box hardware store to price out other materials. They started chatting with one of the staff members, who connected with the community manager onsite! She was able to provide a huge discount on what he needed, in exchange for the promise of some photos of the finished product! We were so grateful, and had a little laugh because he went in wearing glorified pajamas (teenagers) and had no documentation to submit.
Saturday
- Cardio: 5.25 miles, walking
I slept in, which meant it was super hot when I finally started my walk. Meh. What can you do?

And that was that.
Thoughts + Goals
Now we get into the reptilian part of our journey. Look closely. In the picture on the left, you see the red rat snake that has taken up residence in my front garden. Much as I hate that he is there, red rat snakes are typically beneficial snakes and should not be killed. The second picture is a garter snake that was hanging out while I was walking my client. I was NOT expecting it and it scared me half to death. Truth be told, I usually see black snakes and banded water snakes, so these are both pretty unusual and to see them both in the span of a week was interesting to say the least.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate. We are having the lowest key, chillest day to date. We all have some form of work scheduled so dinner will be late. I didn’t decorate because no one has been home enough to appreciate the effort. I’m really ready to be out of this slump.

Weekly Rundown
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

Yikes on the snakes but glad you knew what kind they were and that they’re harmless. Love the puppy stroller 🙂
well done this week Jenn. Happy Easter to you!
Happy Easter!
Who would have guessed that I would reach a point in my life where I am identifying snakes on the fly! What is this world!
The puppy stroller is my favorite thing in the world.
I’d love to see the deer–it’s nice of those people to prepare such delicious buffets of flowers and plants for them, lol. I always say it’s their world, and we live in it. The snakes, tho? Nope. Just nope.
I wasn’t aware you were going to sell your house! Where will you move to?
Right??? I just thought it was funny how timid our deer are, and these deer were like “we are here and we are hungry. try to stop us!” I loved it!
Snakes are just part of life. I like to to see them.
We are looking to stay in a rental in Florida while A settles in school, but we can go anywhere in the state, which is kind of exciting. From there, the plan is about an hour outside of Atlanta. I operate very much on vibes and have decided on a city sight unseen. So Mr PugRunner insists that we visit, but i’m pretty sure that if we have to stay in the south (his request), this will be the place. There’s no real rush. I just want to get the ball rolling.
Love those deer, but the snakes! It constantly amazes me how dull and safe our surroundings are here when I read everyone else’s adventures!
Good luck with the house prepping, are you planning to move far away?
Ahhhh Florida. Where everything is a threat.
thank you! We are planning to move to a rental somewhere in the state for a few years, and then about six hours from our current house to somewhere in Georgia. I’m working my way north.
Deer are beautiful, but definitely destroy gardens!
That’s good news on A’s project. I think so many corporations have formalized their “community support” it can be hard to get donations, but it sounds like A lucked out!
I think your realtor’s advice is sound, especially when there’s no urgency to your move. My daughter is sort of doing the same thing.
Coco recently posted…Looking For Spring In Chicago
We have so many scouts around here, so I’m sure they get drained quickly. And the Eagle Projects don’t happen with any rhyme or reason, so t’shard to get in with the fiscal calendar. All’s well that ends well, though.
I was ready to start packing as soon as the realtor walked out the door, but yes. We don’t have to move. And it’s stressful enough without band season and senior year and finding the right rental home. We can do it strategically and wisely.
The title of this post Treading Water (& Dodging Snakes) had me mortified! I can handle a snake on the ground, but water snakes? They creep me out and I though you were actually in the water and saw snakes swimming around you!
Congrats to A and kudos to the big box hardware store for stepping up to the plate and helping out!
Happy Easter to you and your family!
Ok, that has happened! And it wasn’t great!
I was so grateful for their help. Who would have guessed that they would have been so helpful… especially right on their opening weekend?
Ugh. I hate snakes.
Where are you thinking of moving?
Congrats on your job going so well.
I don’t love them, but I’m getting less nervous around them.
We plan to rent in Florida for a bit, but I don’t want to stay where we are. The house we buy will most likely be in Georgia. I would love to go further north, but I don’t see it happening.
Sounds like your pet business is booming! Nice work getting back to the gym. Hope you and your family have a lovely Easter.
It really is! I just ran into a potential client on my walk today – the dog is leash reactive, but absolutely wanted to see me and give me all the kisses! So point in my favor!
Now wait just a minute! I need more details on this move. Where are you planning to go? Out of Florida? Sounds very exciting, but I know- moving is stressful. Your realtor’s advice is great.
Anyway, sounds like a busy and productive week. Congrats to A on the progress for his project! Maybe he should wear pajamas everywhere from now on.
Happy Easter! I hope you have a relaxing day. (Btw I also didn’t put out my Easter decs. So much work, to just take them down again in a couple days. And I don’t think the rest of the family cares. Meh.)
Haha! We are looking to rent for a year or two while A gets settled in college, and then I think it’s going to be Georgia. I’m thinking Mount Dora or Winter Park, but we will see.
Seriously. Pajamas for the win! Of course, now he’s ruined… he will believe that pjs are the answer to it all!
I love doing the work, but we are all running ragged right now. I have baskets for the kids and that’s all. There is light at the end of our hardship tunnel so I’m focused on that.
Oh! If you come to the central FL area then maybe we can meet up again! An hour north of Atlanta? If so, I’ve been to the area it’s nice and gaining in popularity.
I saw a white snake (I didn’t look close enough to see other colors) at the lake! it was mesmerized by a guy on a bench lol He was nice enough to point it out. My dog didn’t alert me and I don’t know how I would have reacted but it would have been embarrassing lol
Georgia is one place I would like to move to- my husband is not on board though (yet, muahahaha…)
That’s so great about your business! And a puppy!
Exciting about moving further north. I know you struggle with the weather in Florida. (maybe there’s more to it than weather)
Where I lived in Sweden there were plenty of deer strolling around and they made a mess in people’s gardens. We never had problems but many people around us did.
Good news that you’re back in the gym!
There’s sooooooo much more to it than weather here. Soooooooo much more. There’s just a vibe in the northeast that fits me so much better. My husband does not like that vibe, so we compromise, but we’ve stayed where he wanted to be for so long, it’s time for him to give a little.
Yes, sometimes you just know! I had the same feeling for Ireland. So good for you to have a plan for the move!
Listen. I’ve had the feeling for Ireland and for Italy. I could be packed and out the door so dang fast….
Really, really nice mileage this week! And glad to see you’re back at the gym and getting in some good weights too. That doggie stroller is tooooo cute! We don’t see snakes typically where I live, so I would freak out seeing either of those!!
Eek on the s she’s! They totally creep me out, no matter the size, color, or habitat. I just saw a small skinny one last week, on one of my trail walks. I think it was dead, but I didn’t stick around to investigate.
Autocorrect is failing me today… the gibberish above is in reference to snakes (first sentence)
LOL! They are such a way of life here, so I have to pay attention. I prefer not to see them, but I’m ok if I do.
Good idea to ease into a move like that. I am looking at my house with a critical eye lately. It’s time for updates, but I lack the style ideas to move forward! I would head out West to the mountains if we were to uproot. So exciting that you are getting puppy clients!
I have tons of style updates but I don’t want to spend the time or money if I’m leaving and won’t get to enjoy them.
I am more of an East Coast person… we talked about the mountains, but the reality is it becomes a super hard life, taking an hour to get to the grocery store, scary roads, etc. If it was just me, it would be ok, but for Mr PugRunner’s health… things need to be easier. Sigh.
