I got in the car this week, and it registered as 111ºF! That’s just one little gift from this epic heat wave we are experiencing. It’s so hot, that it’s difficult to get the energy to do anything’s and I’m hating every second of it. But we must push through, because what are our options?

Sunday
- Cardio: 4.2 miles, walking
- Strength: 100 Kettlebell Swings, Lunge Alternatives
Happy Mother’s Day! We wanted to go to brunch but the place Mr PugRunner wanted changed their plans, so he picked me up craft donuts instead. It was nice to come home from my walk to that treat.

We had sort of a chill day planned. My parents came over for salad and little snacks, and we just hung out. No pictures. No theming. Just us. A was scheduled to work, as well, so that made the day a little less exciting as well.
With all that, we were able to enter the week gently.
Monday
- Cardio: 4.65 miles, running
- Strength: 100 Kettlebell Swings, Lunge Alternatives
While I had huge plans for my run, the weather had other ideas. A storm came while I was pretty far from home and I got washed out. Boo for me.

Fortunately, I didn’t have much else going on for the day, so I was able to shower and get into comfy clothes while I dug into work. Not too shabby.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.74 miles, running + .46 miles, walking
- Strength: 100 Kettlebell Swings
The next days in the week were pretty full, so I started strong with a nice run. This made up a little bit for the shorted miles on Monday. I also had some dog walks scheduled, so that’s always nice.

The two clients I had fortunately have super shaded yards and neighborhoods, so we were able to manage the heat appropriately. We’re getting into the season that it’s just unsafe to be outside for long. I hate that, but safety first. Always.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 6.48 miles, walking
- Strength: Strength: 100 Kettlebell Swings
Finally hit the middle of the week and that was a good feeling. A has been in mini band camp since Monday, and things seem to be hurtling to the end of the year. I started the morning with a strong walk. And of course, we supplemented with a dog walk later.

That evening, I attended my last Arts Boosters meeting. With it being A’s senior year, I decided that it’s time to pass the proverbial torch to let some other parents get some experience. Bittersweet? Yes. But a wonderful mom is taking over my role and it’s going to be amazing.
Thursday
- Cardio: 7.02 miles, running + .48 miles, walking
- Strength: 100 Kettlebell Swings
I was so excited to debut my new running shoes! Look at that gorgeous color! These were my birthday gift from Mr PugRunner, and they were a little delayed, so it was extra special to wear them.

That evening, we went out for a date night. It’s nice to get out, even in the awful heat. Fortunately, we found some great spaces to enjoy, including a brand new, very popular restaurant, that was just as good as everyone promised.

Friday
- Cardio: 7.06 miles, running
It may be hot, but the sunrises are gorgeous. I am so grateful for these mornings.

I started a new client (cats, this time) today, and it was a very nice change. While I love dogs so much, but it’s nice to get different animals.
All in all, a calm and quiet day.
Saturday
- Cardio: Alter Ego Running Great Ambassador Run 10K
Today, I went for a virtual 10K. Thanks to the heat, it wasn’t my absolute best effort, nor did I order the additional swag bag for a medal, but it was nice to get out there for a goal.

I really need to get back to racing. I miss it.
Thoughts + Goals
Things are going. We are in a really good place, right now, but things are moving so very quickly. It’s ok, but it can be hard to keep up sometimes. I’m behind on blog comments, and I’m definitely behind on organizing and purging at home, but tomorrow is another day.
We have one more week of school, and you’ll see me running in all kinds of new places, and I spend the next month on different house sitting assignments. It really brings new meaning to living out of a suitcase, but I’m ready for the challenge.

Weekly Rundown
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

Nice shoes! Because I kept buying shoes at the normal rate but stopped running so much for a couple of years of ups and downs, I have two pairs of “new shoes” I bought in 2023 but didn’t remember anything about ready to go for when I restart running this time around. Stay safe in that heat – more glad than ever of our temperate isle!
Temperate sounds amazing.
I love that you have a stockpile of shoes. I can’t ever make that work!
We had some really hot days last week, so I can only imagine how miserable it was where you are! We’re back into the chill and it’s supposed to rain all week, so…
I love Brooks’ colorway this season–that blue is so beautiful! Enjoy those new shoes.
and to add insult to injury, after these came in the mail, they introduced the most gorgeous yellow color! Whyyyyy????
Those shoes are so pretty! Plus blue is my favorite color.
Congrats on your 10K. I struggled in the humidity at mine yesterday and today is so much nicer. ~sigh~
For cat care, do you hang out and let them ignore you for a while? 😉

It’s one of my faves, too!
It’s funny you say that! I have some cats who don’t care that I’m there, and some who are very interested in me. These cats were a mix: one of them kept hissing at me, but by the end, desperately wanted me to play with him. His brother was more shy, but super vocal and loved being pet. However, he spent a lot of time under the owner’s bed, so I would lay on the floor next to the bed and chat at him so he wasn’t too lonely. The standard visit is 30 minutes, so by the time I clean and change the food and water bowls, scoop the litter and handle the “chores” there isn’t always a lot of time left to hang out. I might have spent a few extra minutes because they were sweet.
Life sure does move fast sometimes! Sounds like things are going well. WE just have to roll with them and savory the good times. Glad you missed all the rain the east coast got and also the Bahamas for a few days while we were there
Oh we got some of the rain, it just mostly came at night.
I’m not complaining about our humidity because you had it worse. I’m just not used to it yet.
I ordered new shoes yesterday just because.
It’s rough!
That’s the best reason to order new shoes.
What a bummer that A had to work on Mother’s Day, but it sounds like you made the most of it with a quiet afternoon with your parents.
I love your birthday shoes! That’s a great shade of blue.
At first I was disappointed, but we can celebrate any time and he is trying to stockpile some hours before band camp this summer.
I love the blue so much.
Well, we were in Texas for the last part of the week, where it was… wait for it… hot. But at least it was kind of overcast- in Florida it always feels like the sun is trying to kill you.
Sounds like you have a busy month ahead! We have one more week of school, and then a week of finals. A is already doing band camp? We don’t have band camp till July! You can tell our school isn’t as serious about marching as yours.
Anyway- congrats on your race. Summer is not the ideal time for them, but it’s still fun.
They do mini camp in May… It’s just three or four after school sessions where they learn Part 1 of their show. It’s a great way to work out the nerves for incoming freshman and get everyone comfortable with their leadership positions.
Summer is not my friend.
The new shoes look nice! I’m due for some new kicks…my current ones feel good while running, but my hips are angry the next day. Sigh…
The hips are what get you!
Glad things are going well with you – but wow, you do have the hot weather. I was in ORlando this week for work and it was 80s and humid but I was inside all day and didn’t feel anything but 65 and AC! Love your new shoes! I just got an alert that I’m due for some too…
I hope you find some great shoes!
I don’t know if Orlando got the same heat we did. It should be gone by the weekend, but it’s been rough.
Your date night looks wonderful. I’m glad you are feeling more positive now! I’m sure the next booster Mom has big shoes to fill with you stepping down. Time to pass that torch! How fun you have cat clients now. We just picked up a new foster kitten today. She’s quite spunky!!
It’s funny how people find me. I wasn’t getting any cats… then it was cats with dogs. And now I have some that are just cats. Spunky kitties are the best.
