Happy Friday The 13th, and the unlucky running edition of the day! I don’t usually have too many superstitions but there are a few things that will put me on alert for the day.

Rain, Rain, Go Away
If it’s raining on Friday the 13th, I’m done for the day. You all know how much I loathe the rain, especially when I want to get out in the fresh air, and so yes, I would consider precipitation an unlucky and undesirable omen for the day.

Ill-Timed Sprinklers
On the topic of water, who recognizes that awful spitting sound that comes right before sprinklers pop up and start irrigating? It scares me every time, because I never expect it. I always have to sprint to safety, lest I get smacked in the face with a sulfury spray of reclaimed water. Gross. It’s even worse in certain parts of my neighborhood where it’s long stretches of easement with no “safe” zone to dodge the spray. If I time the sprinklers wrong, it’s an unlucky day inedeed.

Stepping In It
You know it’s an unlucky Friday the 13th when you step in it, literally. Maybe it’s gum, or maybe it’s something worse. Our neighborhood is pretty full of geese and birds, dogs and cats, and an occasional horse passing through. You really have to watch where you step, sometimes.

Missing The Alarm
Not hearing the alarm and oversleeping is a pretty unlucky thing to happen. It’s wild that our bodies can just choose to ignore our intention to rise and shine. But it does occur and we’ve got to choose to shake it off, or embrace the unplanned rest day.

Grabbing The Wrong Gear
When you’re rushing to get out and about, it’s super easy to grab the wrong gear for your run. Socks are bad. Shoes are worse. It’s unlucky for sure, so double check yourself before you head out!

These are perfect. I forgot a few of these. We have a lot of goose poop on some of our trails.
I have forgotten key item when I used to go to work and run after.
Though when I have a race, I set an alarm but I’m always awake before it.
I hope none of these things happen to us. Unfortunately it is supposed to rain tomorrow for my race.
