On Sunday, I was proudly halfway through the Streaking With The Cool Kids Challenge. That’s right! I’ve run or walked at least one intentional, uninterrupted mile every day in the month of June so far.

How Is It Going?
Honestly, it’s great. I love getting out each morning for a walk or a run, so it’s nice to have an added reason to do so. Having the walk option in addition to running also makes it a little less daunting. I don’t think I’d be able to run every single day for much longer than a week or ten days.

What Has Been The Best Part?
My favorite part of the streaking challenge is that feeling of a job well done. While it’s supposed to be a “challenge”, it’s pretty much a habit and a given for me to get up and move my body, so it’s nice being able to conquer this goal day after day. Sometimes, you need the win.

How About The Most Challenging Part?
Keeping up with the workout laundry is definitely challenging when you’re outside every day, especially in Florida. I do a lot of laundry and the majority of it really seems to be sweaty, stinky workout clothes (between me, Mr PugRunner’s gym clothes, and A’s work and band clothes, it’s a lot).

Were There Any Days That It Almost Didn’t Happen?
You know it! Earlier this month, I drove and his girlfriend to Universal Studios in Orlando with a 6:15AM departure time. Ugh. I dragged myself out of bed at 4:30 so that I could get in a couple of miles before I got ready to go. If that didn’t work out, my plan was to set my timer and just loop around CityWalk until I hit the goal mile (without stopping), but it didn’t come to that. Travel days are hard, but with proper planning they can work out.

How Do You Stay Accountable?
There are some really incredible support networks set up through this challenge on Facebook and Instagram, and I wish I was a little more active (both as the giver and the recipient of support). Unfortunately, I’ve been so busy this month, and sometimes, things have to go by the wayside. I cheer on people when I can, but I haven’t been able to participate in a lot of the accountability groups, or enter the contests. I’ll make a better effort in the second part of the month.

Do You Plan To Keep Going?
You know it! Today marks 584 days of Streaking With The Cool Kids… I think I want to hit 600, then two years (730) and then… maybe 1000? We will see what’s in store.

Have you been part of the streak? How is it going for you?

Great job! Sounds like a good challenge and a perfect way to stay motivated to get in some movement every day.
Especially in this heat!
That’s awesome. I didn’t realize you’ve been streaking for so long. I’m terrible with streaks, even short ones that allow walking. Though maybe that’s what I need to get going as my knee injury heals.
I figure that if I’m going out there anyway, might as well make it count!
