There’s no place like Home Sweet Home, and I was pretty happy to be back, after a long week of being on the road. Two trips in the span of a week is fun, but also quite a bit. And while I got a few days in my own bed, I’m heading back out for a month and a half of extended overnight house sits! Yay for more animals and new places to explore!

Sunday
- Cardio: 3.56 miles, walking
Was I exhausted? Yes. Was I hungover? No! So I got up and took my butt for a walk while the ladies slept. After all, who can turn down resort miles? I also brought coffee to the room when I was finished.

It would have been nice to hang out at the hotel and get in some more pool time but we all had things to do so we called it a weekend. Until next year, friends!
Monday
- Cardio: 5.05 miles, running + walking
I slept terribly and it was just so steamy hot when I went out that I walked far more than I ran. Ugh. Hate when that happens, but sometimes, that’s just the way it goes.

Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.86 miles, running + 18 minutes, stair stepper + .38 miles, walking
- Strength: Upper Body + Core
A nice run and back to the gym for me. It felt great. Who am I?

In the afternoon, we went to the studio for A’s senior yearbook pictures. My heart. I can’t believe how quickly the year is already going, and school hasn’t even started yet!

Wednesday
- Cardio: 6.4 miles, walking
Yay for walks on Wednesday. Sometimes, it’s nice to take a break from running, especially in July.

In the evening, we headed to BarTaco to try out their summer menu. The weather was terrible and it was just so hot, but we had a lovely time, sampling their lobster tacos and esquites. Oh, and ice cream to follow. This cookie butter flavor was heavenly.

Thursday
- Cardio: 6 miles, running + .38 miles, walking
I really struggled dragging myself out of bed. It was another late night, and the threat of suffocating humidity was just too great an obstacle. The bad news is that going out later never helps. Boo. I got out there, and even had some nice walking time with J, so it wasn’t all terrible.

Friday
- Cardio: 5.67 miles, running + walking
TGIF! I got a late start as usually happens on my first morning in a new house. We take a little bit of time figuring out the routine, but we got it down, and I was on my way.

And then it was just a chill day with six amazing animals. Once their initial excitement dissipated, they were down for lots of naps and cuddles.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.56 miles, walking
A quick little walk before the day. It was sizzling out there.

The big news is that A is finally completing his Eagle Project! He’s rebuilding a broken down gaga ball pit and I’m so glad he will be able to check off this milestone. He has until his 18th birthday (in April) to complete all his requirements and Board Of Review, so there’s time, but momentum certainly slowed down with school, band, social life and work. Scouts has been an amazing journey for him, and I’m so glad he can close this chapter at the highest level.

Thoughts + Goals
Another week. It’s good to be home, and also good to be working. It’s good to have plans on the horizon, and also great to be on the couch, covered in dogs and cats.
The next few weeks are going to fly by. A starts back with band camp and back to school is literally the second week of August. He’ll be applying to colleges, and doing some traveling of his own to some really fun and bittersweet events, and then we are off to the senior year races. I don’t know if I’m ready.
And meanwhile, I’m holding it together as best I can. I’m staying consistent, trying to do my best, and keeping my eye on cool future plans and next steps. So many things are shifting and changing, and it’s both hard to roll with it, but also exciting to see what’s in store.
How was your week in training? Any advice for moms of rising seniors?

Weekly Rundown
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

Congrats mama and to your son on completing his Eagle Scout project. That is such a huge accomplishment and looks so good on those college applications. Time sure flies, doesn’t it?
I hope the upcoming busy week doesn’t overwhelm you! You got this!
Yes! He has some paperwork to do but I am so glad to have the bulk of the physical work out of the way. Now it’s all downhill and that’s what we need. An easy (ish) win!
I hope I don’t get overwhelmed either. It’s been such a rough half year and I just need a break.
Congrats to A! Let’s see… advice. Try to stay sane during the college application process! I think it goes easily for some people, but around here it was very stressful. My son’s senior year was ruined by Covid (which I might have mentioned a few times, ha) so our experience will be very different from yours. I think I’ll have better advice for surviving the college drop off, so we’ll talk then.
Nice job getting out there for your runs and walks. Yes, the humidity is terrible. I hate it!
A already applied to one school, but he hasn’t let me near the process. On the one hand, I”m super grateful for a kid who wants to take ownership and manages his own things but it’s also hard not having any real input. That being said, he learns best when he is fully hands on, so I sit back until I’m needed or I have to nudge on a deadline.
Covid ruined so many things and I’m sorry your son had to suffer. A isn’t super enthusiastic about all the senior things because his girlfriend will be in college and so he doesn’t want to do some of the activities and events. We talked about not missing out, but I also can’t force him to do things like paint his parking symbol in the parking lot or go to homecoming if he isn’t into it.
Yes, we will definitely talk then!
Congratulations to A on completing his Eagle Scout project! Those senior pictures are going to be amazing.
Advice for senior year … try to keep calm about college, it WILL work out. I know you will, enjoy all the senior events but try not to get caught up in the (sad) emotions of the “lasts”—yes, it’s a transition, but not the “end”. <3
It was pretty much the hottest day of summer but they toughed it out without any fighting or bickering and it looks great. I’m so relieved that we are now down to just the paperwork.
I alternate between panic and zen. He’s so different from me and it’s very hard to balance. He’s handling all his own applications (I haven’t seen a thing) and he always ends up coming through.
I have to be honest: I am a little sad but I am just so happy and excited for him. It’s going to be weird having him go off to his adventures, but he’s just found such a great path and is doing so many great things, so I see it less as “lasts” and more like “bridges to the next things.” It’s kind of a lonely position to have… not many of my friends and peers feel the same, or at least not in my presence.
AJ is so grown up! Senior year is bittersweet hang in there mama. It is always a fabulous gift to travel and always nice to come back home
SO GROWN UP!
But he’s going to do amazing things and I’m so happy for him.
I really enjoyed our sons’ senior years of high school. It was so exciting watching them apply to colleges and then decide where to attend. My advice is to just enjoy each moment and relish in the achievements of the amazing young man you’ve raised. Speaking of which, congrats to A on completing his Eagle Scout project.
I’m kind of on the same wavelength… it’s all so cool to see where he’s heading, and I am loving that part of things.
We are so glad the project is finished.
We got a taste of your weather and I have a lot of respect for you… I just can’t run in those conditions.
Yesterday was nice but today again it is humid with a threat of thunderstorms.
I don’t know if I can run at all this week. This morning it was 80F at 6AM. What the what?
You are getting on that senior year roller coaster now! Although I bet a lot of stuff has already happened, so many more changes to come. Hang on tight and enjoy the ride! It’s wonderful to watch them morph from kids into young adults… and then coming back asking for guidance 🙂 Congrats to A on his Eagle Scout project. That’s a great accomplishment!
You are taking care of 6 animals at the same house?
We are so happy to have it done! And yes, I’m holding on so tight!
Yup! Two dogs, three cats, and a bird! They are all so awesome, and I love it!
Congrats on the soon-to-be Eagle!! We really pushed our son to get it done early (I think he was just shy of 15 yrs old) because we knew his time would be limited with all the other activities he had on his plate. It’s easy to say, but try to sit back and enjoy as much as you can this next year…it will go fast 😉
We really thought he would have it done by 14 or 15, but then he completely shifted gears and now ….here we are! I’m doing my best to just roll with it all! It’s so much!
Cheers to senior year! It is such a whirlwind and it all flies so fast. Just breathe and savor it all as best you can. SO many exciting things are ahead!
Congrats to your son on finishing the project! It sounds like a big deal and a big undertaking. And welcome home! I know the next few weeks will be busy but hopefully you can enjoy the end of summer 🙂
