Yes, I’m trying to stay positive about the August adventures, because this summer is promising to end me. With heat, humidity, stress, and uncertainty, I’m a hot mess (literally). It’s also another huge month of me living just about everywhere but home. Things will settle down in September, but it’s been quite the ride.

Sunday
- Cardio: 3.98 miles, walking
It felt amazing to wake up in my own bed. I slept in just a little and took myself on a stroll.

I wanted to be productive, so I did a ton of laundry (including all the pugs’ bedding, went to Costco and the grocery store, and gave the pugs a bath. The boys were still in Atlanta but I decided to make myself a delicious bucatini al limone for dinner, which was light and bright and fresh.

Monday
- Cardio: 6.21 miles, running
Happy Monday! I was energized to get up and get moving, and even found some lovely fog along my run.

I got more done around the house, including making egg salad for the week for A, and prepping some other meals. And then I kicked back to do some work and wait for the boys to come home. They got in around 10PM, and it was great to have them back.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.49 miles, running
A little running, a little walking, a little more walking. That’s the name of the game, these days.

We worked to get ourselves back on track with band camp, my dog walking client (VERY short walks right now because of the temperatures), and all the rest of it. Re-entry is never easy, but we rallied as best we could. Mr PugRunner had an evening meeting, while A was back at band, and so it was another evening to myself. I’ve chosen to return to my true crime documentary obsession and dove into the Ruby Franke and Amy Lynn Bradley cases.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.65 miles, walking
Who doesn’t love the middle of the week? I went for a walk and really tried to focus on cooler days ahead. They have to be coming, right?

I did my band camp pickup/dog walk circle, and then headed home to just bask in the air conditioning. What else is there to do?
Thursday
- Cardio: 6.05 miles, running
Today felt just the teeniest bit cooler. Not much, but a tiny bit. On the plus side, I’m working on getting out earlier and earlier, which means more sunrises for me.

I did my last regular dog walk for two weeks (the client is a puppy and she’s going to grow so much in that time!) and that night, we went to the parent performance of the 2025 marching band show. We got “wet bulbed” much earlier in the day, so the show was in the gym rather than outside, which was just fine by me.

Friday
- Cardio: 6.34 miles, running
Friday was miserably hot and it was a rough morning. We were supposed to go see Superman, but a lot has been going on and it didn’t work out. Oh, well. At least I had an ok run with a beautiful sunrise.

Time for another move! I packed my bags and headed to a friend’s house to stay with her two doggos for the week. They are so much fun. And while I was there, I was contacted by one of my first clients to see if I could drop in on her sweet senior a few times last minute. Of course!
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.12 miles, walking
And it’s Saturday! We even had some cloud cover! There was a chance of rain, which we haven’t had in what feels like months.

And then it was just a day of doggy work!
Thoughts + Goals
A lot will be happening very quickly over the next few weeks, and I’m not sure I’m ready! On Monday, A goes in to get his final schedule and parking pass for the year. The next Monday is his first day of senior year. He’ll have his senior sunrise shortly after that, and then we are underway for all the “lasts” leading to all the new “firsts.”
I continue to work on my projects, and I’m itching to get back to the race community. Part of me is glad to be sitting out right now due to the weather, but I am hopeful that things will turn around a tiny bit and I can get back out there. I honestly don’t mind running without a goal, but a goal would be extra nice.

Weekly Rundown
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

Busy busy! At least you got some time for yourself! I think the heat is affecting everyone–it’s been hard to get those runs in, but like you, I get out there early before the sun rises in the sky. AND the bonus is those beautiful sunrises!
This will be an exciting year for your son (and you!)
Great job on getting out there despite the heat to fit in your workouts! I can understand the pupsters not wanting to go out in the heat either.
‘All the “lasts” leading to all the new “firsts”’ – what a great way to look at A’s senior year of high school!
I’m really trying to maintain that attitude. They do a senior sunrise and a senior sunset, but the sun will rise again on his next chapter, so on it goes.
Remind me of that when I’m sobbing in fetal position over my baby.
You will survive senior year I promise! Hang in there. Mama. I am hot all the time!! This summer has been challenging for sure hoping august is better humidity wise
It’s hot on its own and then a hot flash kicks in and it’s like… “why? what is the point of this?” and I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Yep, we haven’t had rain in ages and it’s making it hot AF here. I mean, even hotter than usual. SIGH!
I’m excited for you and A! And also a little terrified because my daughter will be a senior in another year- I’m not sure I’m ready for all this.
Let’s just survive through the summer and get to fall- then we’ll get back to racing. Running without a goal is not the worst thing, especially when there’s so many other things going on.
Well, you can follow along right here! I’m erratic at best, so some days will be “look at that bright future” and the next days will be like “I can’t handle it!” with very little in between lol.
You keep so busy with all those client pets! But you manage to get out there running and walking! With warm enough early mornings, those sunrises would definitely get me out earlier in the morning too.
I just recently learned about the Ruby Franke case and have seen a lot about it on YouTube. Absolutely horrifying. I’m also obsessed with true crime stories, or I used to be. Perhaps I should look up that other case you mentioned.
Hope you get some relief from the heat soon!
This summer, I have been with 27 different pets. That’s just insane to me. I love them all so much.
The Ruby Franke story made me sick to my stomach. There are so many great parents in the world, and then there are these absolute monsters who don’t deserve the children they have. I am so glad her kids are safe, and while they have a ton of trauma to overcome, they have the support they need to do so.
I hope we get relief soon too. It’s just terrible. Have fun on your holiday!
I know your heat and humidity is MUCH more intense than what we have in Iowa, but the outdoor conditions can be tough to deal with. You’re making the best of everything, so kudos! Good luck with the upcoming back-to-school transition!
I don’t really have an option. The treadmill wreaks havoc on my leg, and without forward motion I will go crazy. So we suffer.
Thanks! I’m going to need it!
Nice you got some time to yourself and also your business is flourishing – another job that can’t be taken over by AI (mine will be gone in the next decade, before I can draw my pension!). Some good runs and lovely sunrises. Good luck for the onslaught of August.
Ugh, that makes me sick. I don’t know what people think is going to happen to everyone who is pushed out? Especially in this country where the “work work work” mindset is so pervasive. I’m going to keep chilling with the furry/feathered/scaly creatures, and mind my business.
We are starting August with storms. Sigh. Maybe it will bring down the temperatures, or maybe it will just steam us.
sounds like exciting and emotional times in the near future!
How fun that you have a puppy client! What breed?
Cooler days ahead for sure! Love all your sunrises though!
My puppy puppy (because they are all puppies) is a chocolate lab. She’s an absolute piranha and I adore her.
Nice job with getting in workouts even with the heat and humidity! I don’t know how you do it. And good luck with senior year — eee!
Almost first day of school? Too soon!! yes, it’s creeping up on me too. Soon my house will be decluttered and quiet again. I’ve been tripping over all of the kids stuff which will return to their apartments soon. I will miss the mess!
