I know, I know… it’s only early August: how could we say goodbye to summer so soon? Well, in many places in Florida, school starts up for the year on Monday, so it seems the summer is done. While I will miss the vibe of the season, I won’t miss the heat one little bit.

Sunday
- Cardio: 4.42 miles, walking
I had a super nice neighborhood in which to walk at my clients’ and so that was a great way to start the day. I even met a new friend!

This week I had the pleasure of watching two English bulldogs, which was incredibly fun. You know I love smashy faced animals, and the snorts were out of control!
Monday
- Cardio: 5.5 miles, running
Happy Monday! One of the nice things about this particular job is I had to be back at the house by 8AM to feed the pups. It was helpful being up and out before dawn to help beat the heat, and it got me back on a good schedule. This time, my path brought me in contact with a family of ten deer (you can’t see them all in the photo)! It was breathtaking.

Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.51 miles, running
No deer today, but that’s alright. There was also no break in the heat, but we did get a reprieve from the scorching sun. Bad storms were starting to roll in, and I was grateful for the cloud cover.

I added a rotation to my house to my day, because the boys left early to drive to Orlando for another campus visit and to look at apartments for next year. College housing is scarce in Florida, so we have to get all our ducks in a row. It’s just wild that we are at this point. They found one great place, and want to go look at more.
Oh, and I finally got to try the Raspberry Cold Foam Cold Brew. It’s my new favorite coffee and I hate that it’s going to be a limited time menu item.

Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.28 miles, walking + running
For a minute, I thought I could manage a short run, but the weather got to me, and that was a no go. We do what we can.

I also got to move back home. It was so nice to be back in my own bed. Mr PugRunner made a yummy dinner, and it was all wonderful.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.58 miles, running
And we are back in a routine. I got to see J and we were able to get in some nice miles before more rain.

That evening, we went out to dinner and to see Superman, finally! It was better than I could have hoped and I left the theater with such a feeling of hope. I can’t wait to see what direction the DCU goes from here.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.65 miles, running + 1.77 miles, walking
I did my own run in the morning.

And then I spent the rest of the day catching up on work and dropping in on A’s girlfriend’s dog. They were off on an adventure, moving her into her college dorm. I can’t believe it! We are so excited for her, but also sad that they will be apart.
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.66 miles, walking
Mr PugRunner asked if I would like to go walk in downtown St.Augustine and check out the Farmer’s Market at The Amphitheater and I was all for it. We didn’t quite make sunrise, but the views were still stunning.

And we had our favorite breakfast, and did some shopping. We got delicious hummus and pita chips, freeze dried candy for A, and dehydrated cheese chews for the pugs.

Then we chilled out at home to watch some movies and wait for A to make it back.
Thoughts + Goals
It was a good week. We’ve been waiting almost all year to get to this month and we finally can take a deep breath. I’m so grateful. We got some (boring) house projects done, including getting our garage door fixed, which was so incredible.
Once again, the gym was out. It’s sometimes really hard to schedule it when I’m pet sitting and working on tight feeding/potty schedules. That’s ok. I’ll have some time this week, and I can get caught up.
A is ready for school. He got a Cars backpack for his senior year, and he’ll be getting ready for the Senior Sunrise next weekend. I just can’t believe we are here.

Weekly Rundown
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

Wow, school starts so much earlier for you! It’s getting earlier here but still not for another week or two (depending on the school district).
It sounds like you had a good week. I’m not sure I even want to try that new S’bucks drink but I’m glad you like it!
I love raspberry in my cold brew. And I love cold foam. So for me, it was all a win. I can see it being unusual but I enjoyed it.
I was shocked to see some of our local schools starting already! It’s too early, and I don’t understand the logic.
I’m glad you got a break in the heat. We did, too, but it warmed right back up again. This has been a strange summer for us!
In Florida it makes sense… the goal was to be out of school for summer before the worst of the heat. Now it feels like it’s always the worst of the heat.
Yeah, today is hot again. I’m thinking we are going to start seeing some big tropical systems starting up soon.
Time really does fly for the kids this time in their lives! You all have an exciting year ahead. It’s going to be o mama! I promise. Have a great week
We are just white knuckling through it all!
Yep, school starts tomorrow! I wish we were saying goodbye to summer WEATHER, but of course that won’t be happening for another couple months.
Is A thinking of UCF? Is that where his girlfriend is going? I’m nosy so I want to know these things! Sounds like he’s ready and enthusiastic about his senior year.
Nice job getting your runs and walks in! I know it’s hard with the heat and a complicated schedule.
He is thinking of UCF or Valencia. He already got accepted to UNF, but that’s not where his heart is, in any of the ways. He’s super ready and would head off to college tomorrow if he could.
No! I am not ready for summer to be over. But you’ve heard me say that. It’s also not as hot here I love the summer time vibes like you do. We don’t start school until later in August so at least we still have the slow mornings and relaxed nature for a few more weeks. Good luck with back to school! Nice job with all the workouts this week. I’m always impressed with how much walking you are able to get in.
I love the walking. And some of it is dog walking, too!
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Wow, that’s tough for freshmen not to be guaranteed a dorm room. Moving away from home and starting college is a lot for a kid and to have to do that in an apartment where they’re also doing their own cooking, etc. might be too much for some.
It is still considered student housing, but a lot of colleges just don’t have guaranteed space on campus. They can still get meal plans but the colleges have taken over old hotels and apartment buildings (or built their own), to accommodate. Since we aren’t sure which school he is attending, this covers all our bases. I think he will be ok as far as managing it all (he’s super independent and a work horse) but we will see. Fortunately, it’s less than two hours away, so we are right there.
Of course I will be super sad for college to start up again because my house will be empty again. But, I have been packing my calendar with fun things to do when they are gone. It does seem crazy to be looking for apartments now. I felt the same way about the apartment we set up for my son, over a year before he moved into it. We were at his new apartment today and it’s closer to campus than I expected, which is good.
I haven’t tried the Raspberry Cold brew yet. However, I did buy a frother wand and have been whipping up all sorts of foams for my coffees. It’s such a fun treat!
I have a frother wand but it’s not great quality. Maybe I should start trying my own.
The housing thing is just wild, but we will figure something out.
I am so out of the school routine, but it really seems too soon for summer to be winding down. That said, it is an exciting time for the start of senior year…I hope all goes well!
It’s going to be quite the ride! Here we do it so early so we don’t have school in the hottest parts of summer at the end of the year. It kind of makes sense but it’s also strange.
Schools here don’t start until after Labor Day.. One more year and you’ll be an empty nester.
Since I’ve running early, I see ore deer.
I’m a cold brew fan esp in the summer.
I know. It’s so strange. But there is also so much opportunity ahead.
We are developing so much that deer are becoming a bit more rare. It breaks my heart.
Cold brew is life. I drink it year round.
The raspberry cold brew sounds unique but good!
Wow school already…I think its similar in Illinois for my sister’s kids, they are back too. Here in London, the schedules are very different, but it seems kids are still off at the moment! August is a big month for Europeans to travel.
Your dog sitting job sounds perfect. Love all the deer in the mornings!
I wish that we did “year round school” on for 6-8 weeks and off for 2. It would just be so much better for everyone. But one more year, so I guess it doesn’t matter.
I liked the coffee a lot. It’s just a touch of sweetness, and there’s just a tinge of pink.
