six years

April 29, 2014      28 Comments

Six years ago today, our lives were forever changed (for the better), by the arrival of our first and only son.

Impatient like his mother, little man was born on April 29, instead of on or around his May 17 due date. It took us all by surprise when my water broke in the wee hours of the morning and we had to make sure we had everything in order before heading to the hospital. He came about 15 hours later, and it was love at first sight.

It has been the most incredible journey, watching him grow from a sweet bitty baby with pinholes in his heart into a healthy, bright and precocious little boy (or big boy, as he will tell you).

He loves school and baseball and belting out all the songs from Frozen. He loves Iron Man and Spiderman, animals and artwork. He can spend hours building and playing with Legos and  He can have a conversation with anyone about anything, and we are regularly astounded by some of the things that will pop out of his mouth. Little man is kind and empathetic – he hates when his friends are sad and he always wants to provide bandaids or a hug to help them feel better.

There is a stubborn streak in him and he has definite opinions about a lot of things. We can also tell that he is going to be very Type A, like his mommy. However, he is also focused and persistent and it’s amazing to watch him in action when he is trying to achieve a goal. That determination will certainly serve him well.

Time really flies. It feels like yesterday we were celebrating his first birthday, and he still hadn’t taken his first steps.

And now he’s six and running and jumping and sliding into home plate during games.

This past weekend, we celebrated with a trip to the Nick Hotel in Orlando with a few friends (post to come),

cake from It’s Tasty Too!

and tonight we will have a low key dinner at home with a taco bar, homemade Spiderman cake, and this “guest of honor”

It’s not a party without a life-size superhero balloon.

Happy birthday, sweetest little guy! We love you so much!

Let’s talk about balance. Balance is an area wh Let’s talk about balance.

Balance is an area where I sometimes struggle, physically and emotionally. It can be a challenge to fit in all the things I want and all the things I need. I don’t always love doing the mundane or tedious tasks that ultimately lead to the foundations of the things I am more passionate about.

I am taking a little more time to build on the basics, and find my balance. It’s going to lead to a healthier and happier me.

How do you find your balance? Do you struggle with the basics?

Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run.

I worked through some cardio under the blue skies and in the fresh air and then came home to @runsmartofficial’s base building boot camp.

There was A LOT of focus on balance and feet and ankles, as well as ground work in the form of different planks and push-ups.

The movements were small but effective and my legs are certainly burning! It’s going to get harder as we go, but I’m excited to spend more time on my stability and form, to see if it makes me stronger and more efficient over time.

What was on your workout calendar today?

This morning, I started on a new training plan wit This morning, I started on a new training plan with @runsmartofficial. I have a goal race in May, so I am going to see if I can make some improvements along the way.

I can admit that I am built more for distance than speed, but I am taking a crack and improving my pace over the next ten weeks. Keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏻!

Anyone else starting a new training plan and cycle?

Congratulations to the @staugalligatorfarm for another fantastic event. It was a beautiful morning, with lots of enthusiastic runners and walkers, and we were so happy to be there.

A portion of proceeds went to benefit Orianne Center for Indigo Snake Conservation (OCIC) and AZA Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE), partnering to celebrate Eastern indigo snakes, which makes the race even more important.

Come take a peek at how the morning went and head over to the blog to read more about it! (Link in bio) https://runswithpugs.com/2023/03/15/race-report-raptor-run-3k/
