weekly report: 4/19 – 4/25

April 27, 2015      14 Comments

Despite how crazy things are getting, I still managed to get in just over nine miles this week. I was hopeful to crack 10, but there’s always next week.

Sunday – rest

We went our separate ways on Sunday. I had to do some shopping and Mr PugRunner wanted to go to Home Depot and clean out the garage. He and little man got hair cuts, and I love that little man is now sporting his “summer buzz.”

We grilled dinner after the rains left and spent the night chilling before the week ahead.

Monday – 4 miles

Marathon Monday. In honor of the day, I put on my blue and yellow and headed out for four miles.

Spring is here.

After a quick shower, I kicked back to watch the dramatic conclusion. What a race. Every year I watch, I get chills, and for the first time since my marathon, I think that maybe I could manage another 26.2 miles, if it meant doing them en route to Boylston Street. Obviously, I’m never going to qualify, so I have to think about how I could successfully fundraise my way there.

Tuesday – rest

First, I had work. Afterwards, I grabbed my camera and headed out to shoot another First Communion session. I love these so much.

Mr PugRunner took little man to his karate class and then out to dinner, while I finished up my work and picked up some last minute birthday gifts.

Wednesday – 3.1 miles

The weather was gorgeous, so I was happy to get in my miles.

When little man got home from school, we went for an oil change (blah), and then out to dinner on the water, to Rita’s for dessert and for a walk on the beach. It was so nice to forget about routine and schedules and just enjoy some nice, spontaneous family time.

As an added bonus, we got to see some kites flying high above the sand. It was a stunning sight.

Thursday – rest

I had work and little man had a baseball game. Mr PugRunner took little man so I could work on party prep in secret.

Friday – rest

After dropping little man at school, I started baking his cakes.

That night, his school was hosting their annual Mother Son Cornhole Tournament. We hadn’t been able to attend last year so I was glad to check it out now. We had a great time, playing cornhole, having dinner and little man got to play some laser tag and hamster ball soccer.

Saturday – 2.1 miles

Mr PugRunner took little man to his baseball game and I got busy cleaning the house and setting up. As soon as I got the cake frosted, I tried my luck with a mid-morning run.

It was incredibly hot and I could only get in 2.1 miles before I had to get back and shower so I could run my errands.

Unfortunately, the afternoon was unpleasant. By 1:00, we were under tornado warnings and I hightailed it home to wait out the storms with the pugs. I figured that I would be better off doing the rest of the shopping in the morning than risking the weather.

Fortunately, the storms cleared, and we were able to enjoy our evening. Mr PugRunner’s colleague was in town with her husband, so we took them to dinner at this gorgeous waterfront location that we absolutely love. We closed the place down, with great conversation and yummy food.

All in all, it was a good week. The rain and severe thunderstorms have made it difficult to get out safely, but I’ve done my best to work around it.

The next few weeks are just going to be a flurry of activity. Little man turns seven on Wednesday (How did that happen???). My birthday and Mother’s Day are the following week. It’s always such a busy time and while it’s exciting, I’m kind of looking forward to a slowing down of things. We shall see how that works out for us.

How was your week in training?

Do you do better when things are super busy or when you don’t have a lot on the calendar?

I’m usually better when I’m busy. If I have a relaxing vacation week or a week where not much is going on, it’s harder for me to get out. I also did 4 miles on marathon Monday! I was so inspired by watching the race earlier I decided I needed to get out!

It is so hard to get back into a groove, especially after a relaxing week. The Boston Marathon really does seem to inspire us all!

Holy Moly look at your times!!!! Even at 4 miles! Awesome!
I somehow missed Tuesday’s run… again. So lazy. Thursday was an easy super slow 3 with my friend. And then Sunday. Sunday I ran 8 miles. It was long, and I took a break half way through for some water and a gu. But it got done. There are way too many hills where I live!

Let’s talk about balance. Balance is an area wh Let’s talk about balance.

Balance is an area where I sometimes struggle, physically and emotionally. It can be a challenge to fit in all the things I want and all the things I need. I don’t always love doing the mundane or tedious tasks that ultimately lead to the foundations of the things I am more passionate about.

I am taking a little more time to build on the basics, and find my balance. It’s going to lead to a healthier and happier me.

How do you find your balance? Do you struggle with the basics?

Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run.

I worked through some cardio under the blue skies and in the fresh air and then came home to @runsmartofficial’s base building boot camp.

There was A LOT of focus on balance and feet and ankles, as well as ground work in the form of different planks and push-ups.

The movements were small but effective and my legs are certainly burning! It’s going to get harder as we go, but I’m excited to spend more time on my stability and form, to see if it makes me stronger and more efficient over time.

What was on your workout calendar today?

This morning, I started on a new training plan wit This morning, I started on a new training plan with @runsmartofficial. I have a goal race in May, so I am going to see if I can make some improvements along the way.

I can admit that I am built more for distance than speed, but I am taking a crack and improving my pace over the next ten weeks. Keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏻!

Anyone else starting a new training plan and cycle?

Congratulations to the @staugalligatorfarm for another fantastic event. It was a beautiful morning, with lots of enthusiastic runners and walkers, and we were so happy to be there.

A portion of proceeds went to benefit Orianne Center for Indigo Snake Conservation (OCIC) and AZA Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE), partnering to celebrate Eastern indigo snakes, which makes the race even more important.

Come take a peek at how the morning went and head over to the blog to read more about it! (Link in bio) https://runswithpugs.com/2023/03/15/race-report-raptor-run-3k/
