Happy Tuesday! I’ll be joining up with My No-Guilt Life, Marcia’s Healthy Slice and MCM Mama Runs for “Tuesdays on The Run”!
This Tuesday, we are talking about Winter Cross Training.
And I laugh and laugh and laugh.
Because, as far as the thermometer is concerned, it is still very much summer.
For us North Floridians, now is (or should be) the time to embrace outdoor running. The weather is supposed to be turning more pleasant, meaning effort should decrease and we won’t be dripping buckets of sweat within the first few minutes of being outside.
While we might have a few chilly days (we might even get frost!), my favorite winter cross training activities involve being outside.
I am excited to cycle more. Francine and I haven’t been on great terms lately, since it’s been so brutal and humid. Rain and fog have led to slick road surfaces and the blazing sun makes for exhausting workouts. As a result, I’ve been skipping my cycling sessions, even though it’s so good for my hips. Spin was a nice replacement, but it will be good to get back out there.
Twice-a-week body circuit classes are also more enjoyable. We do the HIIT sessions outside and I feel like I am able to breathe more comfortably and therefore put in greater effort.
Boot camp is also a great option. While some of the weights and machines are inside, the ropes, relays and tires are all set up in an exterior space. It’s the best of both worlds.
What’s your favorite winter cross training workout?
How are the temperatures by you?

Sounds like you have some great cross training activities you do. I have never done HITT workouts. They sound challenging.

They are pretty fun, actually. I like that they go quickly and change up often.

I pretend to cross train throughout the winter by doing yoga, walking on the treadmill and sometimes popping in a Jillian Michaels DVD. It’s not my favorite, but I do spend a bit more time on those things in the winter because I live in the Michigan tundra (against my will).

Aw. I’m sorry you’re there against your will. I can’t even imagine how cold it is there. Even though I used to live in NJ, Michigan is a whole different animal.

Oh gosh- I love to try new things, but I haven’t found anything that sticks as cross training just yet. Maybe this winter I will hit on something!

I split Friday’s run in two. The first run was just over 4.5 miles. Second run was with my daughter in the stroller for just over 3 miles. Oddly enough, the stroller doesn’t really slow me down that much. I was surprised when I was looking at my splits because it feels like I’m pushing 2 tons on stroller runs.
