tuesdays on the run: holiday gift list

November 15, 2016      9 Comments

Happy Tuesday!  I’ll be joining up with My No-Guilt Life, Marcia’s Healthy Slice and MCM Mama Runs for “Tuesdays on The Run”!

Tuesdays on the Run

The holidays are coming!

It is absolutely insane that we are exactly halfway through November and the big winter holidays are right around the corner. This year, with Hanukkah falling on Christmas Eve, we are going to be throwing one heck of a Christmukkah bash!

In the meantime, I’m making my list and checking it twice, and I’ve come up with a few things I would love for Santa to bring me this year.

established-1856

1. Medal rack

My current medal racks are incredibly full, which is a great thing, but since I’m not showing signs of slowing or stopping, I’m going to need a new one to start 2017.

I have been playing with the goal of running a race in all 50 states. Not a marathon or half marathon, even, just a race. We love traveling and it would be a cool way to see more of the country. Plus, it would get some states on our planning radar (I’m looking at you, Alaska).

But then, I also love this one from my fellow Best Damn Race Ambassador, Nanci’s Etsy shop:

Decisions, decisions.

2. Garmin 735XT

So my Garmin ForeRunner 220 is fine. It’s trucking along like a boss, and I have had zero issues with it in over a year (I need a new charging cradle for it, because my computer no longer recognizes the old one, but that’s not the end of the world). It’s held up to all kinds of weather and conditions and looks great.

However, it lacks the built in heart rate monitor of the 735XT. And even though I discovered that I can take it in the pool, the GPS function doesn’t work underwater. Obviously, if I have any intention of doing a sprint tri next spring, I need all these functions. Additionally, I want to check out heart rate training more seriously.

Andplusalso? Frost blue.

3. Race entries

While I do love unwrapping actual gifts, experiences are my favorite, so I always ask for some race entries. Sometimes, it means that we get to travel and do a long weekend, or else it means that I get to try a new city in driving distance.

This year, I have my sights set on the Daytona Beach 1/2 Marathon 5K.

I would love to “Lap the Track” at this race, and the bling is pretty fabulous.

At that point of the year, I won’t have it in me for another half marathon, but a 5K on a cool course? I am all about it.

Some other great races to consider?

4. Farmhouse table with chairs and a lighting fixture

I know. Could I BE any more dull?

But the thing is, we moved into our current house nine years ago, and we have done nothing with our front room, which is a combination formal living room/dining room.  We very rarely use it, partly because we’re not really formal living room/dining room people, but also because it’s never been furnished. There are some random odds and ends in that area, but I would love for it to be complete.

For that? I need a farmhouse pedestal or trestle table. Like this, but in distressed white.

We are going to be doing some work to the floors and kitchen starting in 2017 (after almost 10 years, it’s time for some updating), so it would be nice to finally have a dining room.

What are some things on your holiday list?

Do you prefer experiences or little brown packages tied up with string?

I don’t know what I want for Christmas! I think at this point in my life, I’d rather have experiences. Traveling has become my jam.

I love traveling. We have been so lucky to be able to do it fairly frequently, and I hope it can continue.

Mostly I prefer experiences because basically when either of us want something, we buy it. Not that we buy everything we want, of course.

My husband was just moving the medal “rack” he made for me & commented how heavy it was. And it has far less medals than you have!

I do love my half in every state goal. I should be a quarter of the way through by the NOLA Best Damn Race (God willing!).

We are the same way – we just buy what we want when we want or need it. But we also go big at the holidays, and it’s nice to be able to surprise each other, even if it’s with something small (I am so excited to give Mr PugRunner this one thing I found for him, and it’s such a little, silly thing).

A quarter of the way through your goal is incredible! I love hearing that!

I love a great experience! Either a destination weekend or a day trip. Cooking class, a fun show of some sort, I am pretty easy to please 🙂

So I really, really, really want tickets to Hamilton. Like more than you know. But, 2017 is the year of my 40th, so, I’m thinking I can somehow finagle a trip to… say… Chicago.. and run a race and see the show. And it will be fabulous. But after the next two weeks of crazy travel, I will be ready to chill out through the end of the year.

I have a feeling I will be needing a new medal display soon! I’m pretty good at giving “experiences”, especially to people that already have lots of “things”. I’ve never really received an “experience” but it might be nice!

I’m all about experiences as gifts – LOVE receiving and giving it! (But then again, I would never say no to a little running-related something (anything!) in a little brown package…! 😉 )
