tuesdays on the run: three running wishes

February 21, 2017      5 Comments

I’ll be joining up with My No-Guilt Life, Marcia’s Healthy Slice and MCM Mama Runs for “Tuesdays on The Run”!

Tuesdays on the Run

This week?

Oh. Boy.

It’s fun to think of all the wishes a magical genie might be able to grant.

Genie, I wish for you to fix my throat so I can breathe properly.

What does my throat have to do with running, you ask? Well, when I had my tonsils removed several years ago, there were some serious structural changes that went down. It changed everything, and to this day, I have a hard time swallowing certain foods, and breathing, especially when it’s hot and humid. If there was a way for me to breathe normally and swallow my own spit without effort, the running game would be greatly changed for me.

Genie, I wish to run fast.

I’m not fast. You know that saying about being slower than a turtle running through peanut butter? That’s me. And it’s ok. It is. But it would be really cool to be able to run fast. Even if it’s just once. To be that sustained six-minute-mile blur of speed would be such an incredible feeling.

No matter how hard I train, I just don’t think I’ll see these kinds of paces on my own

Genie, I wish for a money tree just for race entries and travel.

I’m fairly certain we’ve all been here…

And so it would be incredibly sweet to have one of these to help defray the costs.

Shoes, socks, cute outfits, fuel, race registrations, and hotel and travel costs definitely add up. It’s totally worth it and I am good with running being my major entertainment. However, it would be nice not to worry about the prices of things.

What wishes would your running genie grant you?

OMG, so weird that you mentioned the throats thing. I also had my tonsils removed a few years ago and lately I’ve been experiencing the same feelings I had before I had them removed. Sore throat, can barely talk, swallow, and difficult to breath. I was just thinking today how it was effecting my run. I think my symptoms might be allergy related this time of year, at least I hope. I hope you are able to find some relief for your uncomfortableness.

Fortunately, sore throats are not something I am experiencing (at least not anymore). I’m very grateful – I haven’t been sick since I had them out, which is amazing. They were holding in so many germs and so much bacteria, and now I’m free of all that. But it’s just changed things and I don’t know that they’ll ever be the same.

Allergies will absolutely create some problems. I hope you feel better soon.

That throat issue must be so annoying! Do you always carry drinks with you, to keep things flowing?

A money tree would be nice…

No. I actually drink less because of the effort of swallowing sometimes. I’m self-conscious because I feel like I can be really noisy when I swallow (although I’m sure it’s mostly in my head) because I sometimes have to work really hard to get anything down. I try to be grateful because the procedure was so effective and cleared up a lot of my health issues, but the side effects are pretty aggravating. :/
