Ah, yes, the runfessional is open and I am so ready to share my deepest, darkest, running confessions.
For our runfessions, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
I runfess…
That I still hate speedwork. I always have and I always will. That being said, I’m doing it anyway. Every Monday, without fail. It annoys me that I won’t see results right way, and that I struggle so much with this one particular facet of a sport I love, but fake it til you make it, right?
I runfess…
That I have been putting off an appointment and I need to get over it. My wisdom teeth need to be removed. Ugh. I have the referral to the oral surgeon, but I am terribly anxious anyone doing any kind of procedures all up close and personal in my face and mouth during a pandemic. Let’s not even mention my regular phobia of dentists and teeth. I’ll spare you a photo for this runfession.
I runfess…
That I am really disappointed to miss my hike with A this week. We had to do a little rescheduling, for him to get some more dedicated time with his dad, and now he’s got a backlog of schoolwork. Our nature time was the casualty in the equation. I think I’m going to treat myself to a solo hike tomorrow while the boys do their thing, to make up for it.
I runfess…
That the weather swings are getting old. We are going from one extreme to the next. I’ll run in shorts and a tank on Monday, and be in ear warmers and tights on Wednesday. It’s really hard on ankle, which is incredibly sensitive to temperature, humidity, and precipitation, and on my psyche, which needs a little more consistency. I don’t care if it’s hot or cold, but pick a darn lane!
I runfess…
That I have a new obsession. There is a pie speakeasy nearby, and it is my new goal to go. I love pie. I don’t have pie nearly enough. Do I need pie? Probably not. But man, I love pie. My running buddy and I are planning a day to make this happen, and I will be happy to report back.
What are you runfessing this month?
Do you love pie?

A pie speakeasy? Well, color me jealous! I guess it’s a good thing we don’t have anything like that here! As far as the weather swings go….ok, I’m not going to comment on that, lol!
Love the new blog layout! So fresh for the new year!
runswithpugs says
I don’t mind the cold! It’s just when it’s 30 today and 80 tomorrow, then back to 40, then back to 90… all the allergies flare. The a/c and heat get a terrible workout, and it seems to be when my people get sick. It’s not good for anyone lol!
I definitely wanted to freshen things up. I’ve been looking for something for the past year, and finally went for it. I’m very happy with it.
Renée @runlaugheatpie says
You KNOW I love pie!!!
I’m so sorry you are missing out on your hike with A!
And I totally get the weather swings. While not as drastic here, it really KILLS my arthritic toes!!!!
runswithpugs says
I know you do! I will share details.
My ankle is raging this past week. I hate it!
Marcia says
A pie speakeasy sounds so fun! We’re headed to FL soon and I’ve got all kinds of clothes packed for those weather fluctuations. WTH?? Thanks for linking!
runswithpugs says
I can offer no advice on what to pack. It’s a mess!
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Pie is my favorite dessert. Post pics.
Enjoy your hike. I love my solo ones.
Cold? It’s sub zero today with wind chill. Ugh.
I don’t do speed work. My races used to be my speed work. But now with none, I’m a snail. But I’m running. So not complaining.
runswithpugs says
Of course I will post pics!
I don’t like hiking alone, but it’s a pretty well known place, so it should be safe.
Not sub zero, but it was 34 here this morning. It’s fine, but I’m getting whiplash.
Coco says
Oh, I feel you on the dental work. (((Hugs)))
I love fruit pies if they’re not too sweet. I’m not a huge fan of custard pies.
Did you redo your blog layout? I like the look (but liked it before too).
runswithpugs says
I did redo it! I have a few more little tweaks, but I just wanted to freshen things up!
Kimberly Hatting says
Our youngest just had her wisdom teeth done a week ago. The other two had it done as well (as did their mom LOL). Did you say pie? Pass me a hefty slice of peach pie, thank you very much 😉
runswithpugs says
PIEEEEE!!!! They have some super unique flavors, and I am so excited.
I am surer it won’t be bad, but I’m so scarred from my tonsillectomy and the leg surgery. I just don’t need one more setback and teeth freak me out so much. I almost fainted when Luna started losing puppy teeth. I can deal with blood, vomit, poop, bodily fluids, but not teeth.
Michelle D. says
A pie speakeasy sounds like a place for me! Can’t wait to hear more.
I’m no fan of going to the dentist either, especially under the current circumstances so I totally get why you’re dragging your feet. Hope all goes smoothly!
runswithpugs says
I just need to work up the nerve. For pies and oral surgery!
Deborah Brooks says
A pie speakeasy!? Ha that sounds deliciously tempting. Good luck with the dental work-not a fan myself. I did go for a cleaning and felt really safe there. Not a fan of speedwork myself either! New blog layout looks great
runswithpugs says
My actual dentist was fine (although I dragged my feet getting in). This will be a consult and procedure at the oral surgeon. In my heart, I’m sure it’s ok, but this is Florida and restrictions have been… lacking. I’ll get there.
Thanks! I have a few more tweaks, but it should be all done soon!
Debbie says
A pie speakeasy? That sounds amazing! I definitely do not get enough pie!
I’m over the weather swings too. Right now it’s raining but it will likely be hot next week. After a few days of cold rain though I’m ready for that.

Does anyone get enough pie? I say no!
I think we will be warm in two weeks. Not much rain this time of year, although we did have a storm and tornado warning on Wednesday.
Laurie says
I am a huge fan of fake it until you make it. Speedwork will pay dividends. I did speedwork for a season, then ran an almost PR for a 5k at age 59!
A pie speakeasy?!?! It must be tried.
runswithpugs says
Fake it til you make it is a very valid strategy for so many things!
I think my PR days are over and I’m ok with that. But I won’t stop trying to improve.
Km G says
Totally understandable that you feel a little uneasy about getting a procedure done during a pandemic. I almost cancelled my yearly physical appointment because I didn’t want to go into a hospital but ultimately decided to go. everyone has their own comfort level and you just have to do what you feel is right, at the right time for you.
runswithpugs says
Yup. Hopefully, everything will hold out. I know I’ve been grinding my teeth a lot because of anxiety, and i’m sure that’s not helping things. Oh, well.
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I hate speedwork, too! I used to run 5Ks to run faster 😉
I’m VERY curious to know what the temp was in the photo where you have mittens on (and wondering why you have mittens in FL! ;))
runswithpugs says
So it was actually in the 30s that day. We’ve had several days in the mid 30s, and even some days where it’s been cold enough to snow. That being said, I have mittens and gloves because I have Raynaud’s syndrome. I’ll wear gloves once it starts in the 50s, just to keep my fingers warm.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I’ve had to have alot of dental work done this year (I needed a root canal which involved a good 5-6 appointments by the time it was all said and done). I actually felt pretty safe there because the dentist was wearing so many layers of PPE. And hopefully they are considered healthcare professionals and can get the vaccine already by now? But I know getting your wisdom teeth pulled isn’t fun! I had it done when I was 17.
runswithpugs says
You’re right. I’m sure it’s fine. But it’s also Florida, so I don’t know how serious everyone is about precautions. Ugh.
fairytales and fitness says
The pie place sounds fabulous! I didn’t think I was a fan of pie, but I have enjoyed making a lot of them this past summer, so now I guess I like it! Enjoy!
runswithpugs says
Oh gosh. Pie is so good. I rarely make it because I’m the only one who eats more than one piece.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Pie is not my favorite although i’d Never turn down a great chocolate pb slice — hmmm, I do know a restaurant that makes a great one, but getting anything on valentines (my birthday) when you never know if it’ Storm * coronavirus. . . It has been far too long since i’ve had that though!
I actually like speed work. But not tempos!
Have fun on your hike!

Having a birthday on Valentine’s Day must be so hard. We don’t even go out to dinner within two or three days of the holiday lol. This year we will be having brunch and fondue at home for sure!
Zenaida Arroyo says
A pie speakeasy? That is something new. I like speed work but now have not been doing it because of the weather. I am liking the new blog layout!
runswithpugs says
Thank you so much! I am so happy with it!
Trail Running Shoes says
I loved the snow we got in the UK in Jan. Really gave me a different feel. I don’t tend to be bothered by the cold. I always feel warm when I run – great in the Winter, not so good in the Summer when it’s over 20.
