Love and running is the theme of this week. I worked on laying down lots of miles on this Valentine’s Week. Are you feeling all the love this week? Let’s talk about all we accomplished.
Sunday – yoga + Balance Challenge Day 7
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Instead of a run, I decided to try one of Judy’s yoga classes. It was all going very well, until the savasana, when Luna decided to get in on the action. Whoops.
Wince it was Super Bowl Sunday, we planned to watch the game with some nachos and beer. To be honest, I was more into the nachos than anything else.
Monday – 5.0 miles, speedwork/walking + Balance Challenge Day 8
Another windy Monday meant another day not going to the bridge for hill repeats. This week, I’m doing it, wind or not. I headed back to 1.5 miles of .25 mile sprints with .25 mile recovery intervals.
A had a pretty packed week of school with several big writing assignments and exams, and Mr PugRunner is busy with the launch of a new website, so I was very much on duty for all the things. Oh, Monday.
Tuesday – 5.01 miles, running + 1.26 miles, walking + Balance Challenge Day 9
The fog has been just unreal. I had to really dig into all my brightest clothes for safety on my run.
Also, it was National Pizza Day. I was super happy to take part in that action.
Wednesday – 3.96 miles, walking + Balance Challenge Day 10
Any surprise that there was even more fog? Not here. It was almost unending this week.
Even more exciting than a fabulous walk was getting my incredible 2021 Impi Global Ambassador welcome package from Balega! I am having so much fun testing out some new types of socks, and spreading the Balega love.
Thursday – 5.01 miles, running + 1.45 miles, walking + Balance Challenge Day 11
I’m not going to lie – I’m missing the colder temperatures. It’s been straight-up steamy and humid this week, which is less conducive to a good run, but I guess summer is back in Florida.
We don’t usually go out for Valentine’s Day so we had our date night on Thursday. The restaurant on which we originally planned was terrifying packed, so we picked somewhere else on the fly. Either way, the views were gorgeous.
Friday – 3.64 miles, walking + Balance Challenge Day 12
Another great morning walk.
The boys had their planned day together and I just lounged at home and did things around the house. So fancy.
Mr PugRunner picked up the most amazing dinner from our community’s food truck nights, in spite of the pouring rain. These were probably the best Brussels sprouts I’ve ever had.
We ate, and watched WandaVision (is anyone else watching this? Holy moly, is it phenomenal!)
I laid out a flat runner for my race in the morning, and crossed my fingers that the rain would stay away.
Saturday – Superhero 8k (4.94 miles) + Balance Challenge Day 13
While I had planned to run the Superhero 8k with a friend, life happened, and I ended up on my own. It wasn’t ideal, but I ended up having a great race. I even claimed a PR, simply because I don’t think I’ve ever done an 8K before. Yay!
Race report to come on Wednesday.
While I was running, A attended a skateboard clinic. He hasn’t been able to spend much time on his board, and I was thrilled that Mr PugRunner registered him for some lessons and a month of free skate time. It will be good for him.
I’m not super big into flowers on holidays, but I fell in love with these red velvet beauties. The way to my heart is definitely food!
That night, we had a Galentine’s celebration at home. As the only (human) female, sometimes I need the boys to spoil me a little. This was a nice family date night.
Goal-getting
I had a bit of a cutback week because of the 8K on Saturday, but that’s ok. Next week’s long run will be extra special. It’s also worth pointing out that I didn’t get in any hiking again, thanks to the awful rain and storms. This is making me quite unhappy and I hope I will catch a break this week.
Reading has been my guilty pleasure. I’ve been plowing through books, and I couldn’t put down The Huntress OR News of the World. Both were so well-written and interesting, and I have to make a concerted effort to slow myself down so I can stop accumulating books.
My balance is improving a bit. After a conversation with the local SUP yoga instructor, I realize that I just need to dig in and get my nerve back. I’m missing out on things I used to love doing (like studio yoga and SUP) and that’s not what I want. Sure, the pandemic has interrupted some of these things, but I can’t let excuses get in my head.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training?
How do you overcome excuses?

Awesome job on all of your workouts this week, especially your race! Like you, I didn’t really care about the Super Bowl, I was more interested in the food 🙂
So funny about Luna trying to get in on your yoga action, lol!
runswithpugs says
Food is clearly my love language. Can’t apologize for that!
Luna is a monster! She clearly doesn’t get enough attention :eye roll:
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Great job this week, and congrats on your race! I’m jealous that you can run outside in shorts, even if it is foggy.
runswithpugs says
LOL! This past week was pretty pleasant, and I’m glad for that.
Deborah Brooks says
wow did not realize you were back to running everyday! Congrats on your 8K-it’s a fun distance that we don’t see too much. How great to have the opportunity to run a real race. I think it will be summer here before that’s an option. It will be worth the wait! Thanks for linking up
runswithpugs says
I’m running four days a week and walking the other three. I hate being out there all the time, but the more I move, the better my ankle feels.
I hope you get real races back soon. This one was a little busier than the other two I’ve run, which was unnerving in some ways, but still safe. We will get it all figured out. <3
Coco says
Yay on the race — cool medal! Is that a cupcake bouquet? How fun!
runswithpugs says
It IS a cupcake bouquet! They were delicious and so beautiful.
Wendy says
That fog is crazy! Hopefully, the rain washed it away. Congrats on your race! I love the 8k distance. And like you, I’m not really a flowers kind of gal. Mike is making chicken and dumplings. That’s more my style!
runswithpugs says
It was a good distance, and a good race. I enjoyed it.
Chicken and dumplings sounds delicious! Can you share the recipe?
Jessie says
I haven’t started Wanda Vision! We got sucked into the Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel last night….
That fog really is unreal! Eery- but cool too!
Awesome week of running and fitness- you accomplished a lot!
runswithpugs says
I want to see that!
The one day, I literally couldn’t see 10 feet ahead of me. It was creepy!
Kimberly Hatting says
Great week for you! I need to check out WandaVision, I’ve been hearing good things. I’m working my way through Grace and Frankie (when I’m on the elliptical or bike), but it won’t be long before I’ll need another option for entertainment.
runswithpugs says
I don’t think I’ve seen that one! I really don’t watch a lot of TV. Right now, it’s WandaVision and Snowpiercer, and that’s it.
Jenny says
Yep, I’m missing those colder temps as well. Hopefully we’ll get a couple more “cold” snaps before winter ends. Send some of that freezing northern air down to Florida please!
Looking forward to your race recap!
runswithpugs says
Ha ha! You can have all the cold! It’s going to be in the 80s today and back in the 40s and 50s this weekend. WHYYYYY?
Liz Dexter says
Nice medal! My husband is loving Wanda Vision, really rates it. We have fog today, I thought it would burn off but there seems nothing to burn it with out there so I’ll be having a misty run in a bit!
runswithpugs says
Ours burns off by 10AM or so. It’s such odd times.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Glad you enjoyed the video! Animals are always drawn to us during yoga. It’s ok to have fun with it!
Nice job on your race! Cute medal, too.
I’m drooling over all the yummy food — and yes, even the brussel sprouts! I got just one cupcake & I shared a *little* of it with Mr. Judy.

It was a great video! Very informative and helpful.
I am very much an ice cream lover, so I couldn’t do much of the cupcake. They were good though. Brussels sprouts are the yummiest!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Congrats on your race and that is a cool medal!! I finished reading “The Silent Patient” and enjoyed it. I have two more waiting for me a the library and will get them tomorrow. I went on Friday but it was closed because of Lincoln’s Birthday. What?
runswithpugs says
Thank you!
Oh gosh! I didn’t realize anything was closed on Friday!
Marcia says
So the fog is not normal for FL? We’ve had so many foggy mornings I thought it was the usual thing. I think I’m so grateful to be out of polar Chicago, I don’t even mind running in the humidity. I think Savasana is a favorite of all dogs! Haha! That’s a great Super Hero medal!
runswithpugs says
Not usually. It’s been a weird winter lol.
I would love for her to chill with me during Savasana, but she was biting my earrings and my nose and being a complete monster LOL!
Michelle D. says
Awesome week for you! And congrats on your 8K!
That picture of Luna crashing your savasana made me laugh – my pup does that to me all the time LOL
runswithpugs says
She’s a mess! Puppies are so fun!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
It looks like you had a nice Valentine’s celebration with your guys. I thought those cupcakes were flowers at first, you fooled me!
Congrats on your 8K PR. Hey, a PR is a PR, no matter how it happens. Sorry you had to run it alone though…
runswithpugs says
It was a nice day. I was stunned by the cupcakes. I can decorate cake, but this was truly art.
Renée @runlaugheatpie says
you do so great last week! and I’m so happy you got to do a live race. I know the weather is disappointing and holding you back from your hikes but they will be back soon. And by the way, I’d have left a packed restaurant as well… I mean the fact that you guys can go out is already kind of scary to me, but I know you are cautious!!
runswithpugs says
We do try to be cautious. I’m sure we can be better in some ways, and we are too extreme in others. But when everything is operating pretty much as normal, it’s hard to be 100% cut off, too. I don’t know the answer, so we just do our best.
Darlene S Cardillo says
I loved every second of my Florida weather even the humidity.
Congrats on the race – cute medal.
runswithpugs says
I’m so happy to hear that!
