Makeup and running is an interesting combination. On the one hand, one might think that cosmetics have no place in the sport. On the other, some people don’t leave the house without a little “enhancement.”
If I am going out for a regular morning run, chances are that I don’t bother with anything on my face. It’s too dark, and I just don’t care. However, if I’m traveling to a new route or racing, I just may “brighten” myself up a little bit.
I’m vain like that.
Foundation with SPF
Hilariously (not really), I am allergic to a lot of sunscreens. Therefore, I have to choose what I apply VERY carefully, or else I’m subject to weeks of itchy outbreaks. Even more interesting is that the quality of the sunscreen makes no difference – my skin doesn’t care how expensive or all-natural the product is. It’s worse if I’m sweating. To compensate, I will try to use some kind of foundation or face stick with a little sun protection.
High gloss.
I very rarely wear lipstick, running or not, but ChapStick or other lip balm is great, especially for keeping lips hydrated. Again, I go straight for the basics. No need to be fancy on my run. I just want a little something to keep from chapping.
Nails.
I haven’t had a manicure since the start of the pandemic, but since I’ve started using Color Street, I like having fun nails when I leave my house, whether it’s for a run or date night. I especially like to make sure my nails are cute for holidays or seasons, so I’m much more likely to apply a set of these before I head out on the road.
When all else fails…
Sunglasses for the win. I wear sunglasses year round in Florida (it’s called The Sunshine State for a good reason), so that it really doesn’t matter what I’m wearing or not wearing.
Above all else…
I try to maintain a solid skincare routine, which is a little more important than the makeup. I make use of the FRÉ Skincare 12FRÉ to keep my skin healthy and protected (affiliate link), especially the Purify Me cleanser and Revive Me moisturizer. These products are gentle, cruelty-free, and perfect for athletes. You can use code JENNL to save on your next order as well.

Do you wear makeup when you run?

foundation with sunscreen…lipstick… always sunglasses!
I get my nails done – ANC French – all the time.

I wear lip balm with SPF, sunscreen & sunglasses. I would just sweat off foundation! And I almost never wear mascara because I can’t seem to find one that doesn’t irritate my eyes.
Most of the time I’m pretty minimalist.

Thank goodness I’ve never had an issue with mascara, thank goodness. my eyelashes are super light so I need a little something.

I don’t usually wear any makeup ever and I never wore it while running. If you like it, though, hey, good for you! I’m just too lazy! I have the same issues as you do with sunscreen. I tried a Neutrogena moisturizer with sunscreen that caused an itchy rash. I have to find something very mild. And I do wear lip balm too.

As my friend says, there’s always a selfie opportunity LOL!
I wear so much less makeup than ever since the lockdown started, so it’s really nothing major or heroic.

I have to be careful with sunscreen as well – I get very itchy from some brands.
Nivea works well for me.. until it gets into my eyes with the sweat … and then it burns!
Do you have that issue when sweat and foundation with SPF get into your eyes?

I sweat a lot, but my face doesn’t normally sweat too badly, so if just plain sweat goes in, that burns. The light foundation doesn’t make a difference at that point.
I break out in the most unsightly rash from almost every other kind of sunscreen (literally can only use Coppertone Waterbabies… I think it’s a 45 SPF, lotion or stick. No spray). Like it looks like something out of a horror movie. I have no idea what it is, or why that one brand is ok, but here we are.

No makeup for me either. I wear glasses but no contacts so sunglasses are a no-no for me. Maybe that is why I have so many eye wrinkles from squinting so much! 🙂

Oh goodness! I think you’re the first person I’ve heard who is allergic to sunscreen. I’m glad you’ve been able to find some alternatives in the foundation. I haven’t had a manicure since the pandemic either – which means a year now! So I think I’ll book myself for a mani/pedi – after marathon training my feet are in a state!

I’ve never seen the Color Street nail strips before – those look so cool!

I don’t wear makeup when I run, but I’m realizing with this topic that I need to take better care of my skin!
