We are twenty-five percent done with 2021, so we are back with some March runfessions!
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
I runfess…
That I finally got to the running store for the first time since my injury and COVID. I was hoping to try a few different styles and see if I could get in something with a lower drop, but nothing really felt right. So it was back to my Adrenaline GTS 21. And that’s ok.
I runfess…
That while I celebrated the 25th Birthday of Girls On The Run International with the #RunForGirls Virtual 5K, I missed the virtual birthday party. Our day filled up fast, and by the time I sat down, I had already missed 30 minutes of the event. Virtual events are tough to fit in these days,
I runfess…
That we took two nights to watch Zack Snyder’s Justice League. And we loved it. In face, we started watching, and then had to stop and restart just to process what we were seeing. I never disliked the first version, but it didn’t wow me, and I certainly wasn’t invested in the DCEU. Now, I’m excited about sequels and spinoffs and the future of the characters. It was worth the four hours.
I runfess…
That I bought new running shorts. From Buc-ees. I couldn’t help myself. If you don’t know, Buc-ees is this Texas-based gas station chain. It’s … like nothing I have ever seen. It’s super clean, and full of made-to-order food, delicious snacks, jams, jellies, fishing gear, home decor, and logo merch. How was I supposed to say no? I got the ones in the middle but I want the red and black ones on the right, too.
I runfess…
That I finally took the leap and got back on a paddleboard! I was invited to a media event for a newer SUP Yoga company, and after some back and forth, I threw caution to the wind, and RSVPd in the positive. Was it terrifying? YES! Did I almost have a panic attack trying to drop in the water from the dock? Also, YES! But did I stand up? Also, also YES! It was a highlight of my year, and I am so ready to do it again. Sometimes, you just need that infusion of confidence, right?
What are you runfessing this month?
Do you have a Buc-ees by you? Did you watch the Zack Snyder cut?

I’ve never heard of Buc-ees! Great job with the SUPing! That’s something I’ve never tried. It looks like fun but also a little scary!
runswithpugs says
It’s so fun. I think everoyone is scared at first, but it really isn’t at all how most people envision it. I admit that I was scared the first time, and it was so great.
Kimberly Hatting says
Those shorts from Buc-ees look fabulous! We have a huge truck stop place, on I-80, near the Quad Cities (close to the Illinois border) that has a lot of the same features. I fitnessfess that I’d never thought of looking for running shorts there LOL I’ll have to check them out next time we pass through 😉
runswithpugs says
You can get anything at Buc-ees. The home decor section is insane! It’s really cute, and definitely worthy of being in a home or given as a gift. It’s crazy.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
No Buc-Ees here but those shorts are cute. As you know I only wear skirts. Lol
Yay for the paddle board. I’ve been nagging my hubby for one.
I now wear a low drop shoe. Not sure if it helps.
I was planning to run the virtual 5k but never got around to signing up.
Wendy says
Yay to standing up on the paddleboard! You made me envious–I cannot wait to get back to the water.
I love my Adrenalines. No need for any other shoe, except that I am running in those Mizunos they sent me.
Coco says
Yay on paddle boarding! I’ve only done it once and it was fun. I have a hard time prioritizing virtual events unless I am “meeting up” with specific people. I think I have the same Adrenalines — I’ve still got a few miles on my old pair so they are not in full rotation yet.
Debbie says
I’ve never heard of Buc-ees. Amazing that you can get running shorts there. Not to mention made-to-order food!
Great job on the SUP yoga. I keep saying I’m going to try it but even though my yoga studio offered it at a local pool (before covid) we are pretty land-locked here so there aren’t as many opportunities.

We have so many placs to paddle board – we really are lucky with that. Although you do have to watch out for sharks and gators. Ah, Florida.
Buc-ees is truly unreal. I’ll have to get some more photos the next time I go.
Michelle D. says
Those Buc-ees shorts are cute!
I’m so glad your SUP experience was a good one! I think getting back into in-person activities can be a little stressful.
I run in Adrenalines too – I have been kinda curious to try some other models/brands, but on the other side, if it ain’t broke….
runswithpugs says
I like the Ravenna, but the toe box is feeling a little narrow with my toes right now. The staff member suggested HOKA, but I wasn’t feeling that. And the Guide felt good, but I don’t know if I have enough dorsal flexion to accommodate the lower drop. Yet. She also gave me a New Balance to try and that was a hard no.
Marcia says
Oh I’m so glad the SUP event went well for you! I can imagine it was terrifying getting back up on one but yes, the confidence that you DID IT is amazing and well worth the risk. No Buc-ees around here but those shorts are hilarious!
runswithpugs says
Now I want to buy a board and go every day. K is thrilled, let me tell you lol.
You can get anything with that Beaver face on it. I bought a reusable wine glass and a mask for myself and A and swim trunks for him for Easter. It’s so funny. They have onesies too and A wants one of them!
Erica @ Erica Finds says
Did you get hurt on the SUP? The last time I went, I was on my knees the whole time after always standing. I decided to just leave my ego out of it!
I missed the Girls on the Run party, too! I saw it the day of and I already had plans.
runswithpugs says
No, but I’m so much less agile and flexible, with much less strength in my toes after my break and surgery. It was terrifying to be out there with people. I was ok kneeling and then i just had to try to stand. It ended up fine until my toes cramped and then I had to get back down. It was a start.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Shopping for running shoes has really stressed me out lately, it seems like I can’t find anything that wows me, lol. Great job getting back on the SUP! I’ve never done it and worry that I couldn’t balance, but I’ve always wanted to give it a try. I need to see the Snyder Cut, everyone seems to love it!
runswithpugs says
That’s frustrating. Our feet and stride can cage so much, especially after having a baby. Just keep trying and something will work. I promise.
And I swear you could balance. Unless you’re on a racing board, they are so incredibly stable.
The Snyder Cut is really good. There are still issues, but it was just so much better than the Whedon version.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
We don’t have HBO.
Never heard of Buc-ees & lived in Austin 17 years. But we’ve been gone 12 years. Is it new? Or maybe in just certain parts of TX?
Congrats on conquering your fears & getting back on the SUP. The one time I did it I didn’t really like it.

According to Gooogle, it opened in 1982 and its headquarters is in Lake Jackson. I am not super familiar with Texas, so I don’t know where that is in relation to Austin. It has a cult following , for sure.
I think SUP is something you love or hate. I’m on the love side, but that’s probably because my first time in, a dolphin came right by me, and I was sold.
Laurie says
Even though you wound up with the same shoe you had been using, at least you now have the peace of mind that THAT is the shoe for you!
Love your gas station running shorts! 🙂 They are super cute! Why don’t they do that in PA?
runswithpugs says
Well, you guys do have Wawa, there, so that might be better than shorts. Maybe!
Deborah Brooks says
I have never heard of Buc-ees but hey why not buy the shorts if you like them! I love SUP and can’t wait to get back on one this summer
runswithpugs says
I need another pair! They have sports bras, too. Hmmmm. 🙂
Zenaida Arroyo says
Great shoes! A few years ago I ran in the Adrenaline but that was before I was properly fitted for shoes. Now I wear Ghosts and Launch. Those are cute shorts!
runswithpugs says
I really like them. I was thinking I could go back to a lower drop shoe like the saucony guide, but it wasn’t meant to obe.
Renée @runlaugheatpie says
I runfess I have no idea what the Justice League is about… I have a feeling a lot of people could be shocked by that statement! ha!
Certainly no stores like that here! I am envious of those who can wear shorts! I have to have my thighs fully covered. learned the hard way about chafing…
runswithpugs says
I’m a total superhero girl: Justice League is the Batman/Wonder Woman/Superman side of things (DC Comics, vs Marvel). Batman has always been a favorite, so I love these movies.
It’s just way too hot to wear anything but shorts here. I just can’t do it.
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Nice kicks. I am. Brooks girl s well. I like more of the neutral shoe with their Launch. Paddle boarding is so fun. A great core workout for keeping your balance.
runswithpugs says
I had such a great time. I wish I could wear neutral shoes – the colors and styles are so much better!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I don’t have Buc-ees by me but we have plenty of Wawa’s which are kind of the same thing. It’s very clean and has yummy food- not so much on the merchandise front but definitely the place I go when I need a bathroom pit stop on a run that’s for sure! No dirty gas station bathrooms. We also stopped by a Busy Bee on the way to see my mom in Pensacola several months ago and it was kind of like that too- lots of homemade jams and merchandise-kind of like an all in one convenience store. Plus the Busy Bee had the Butternut donuts from Dunkin Donuts- those were my favorite and they stopped selling them at nearly all stand alone DD’s in my area!
runswithpugs says
We are getting a Busy Bee one exit up! It’s going to be the war of the gas stations!
