So Spring is here, and now is as good a time as any to look at all the fun spring running plans I’m considering. While the rest of the country is still looking at some longer distance runs, we in Florida are in the season of mostly 5Ks until next fall. It’s just too hot and humid for more than that. So what’s on tap?
Biscuits + Bubbles 5K
So first up in my spring running plans is this 5K to benefit foster and adoptive families in early April. It is a new event, and I am most interested in the mimosa bar and breakfast biscuits, in addition to running to support a good cause. I haven’t run anything by this particular race company before (or at least not that I recall), but there are shirts and medals and all that jazz, so why not?
Spud Run 10K
We’ve talked about this, and I am all in for the Spud Run 10K. Ok, I’d really prefer to to do the 5K, but we will be delivering and spreading mulch that day with our Scouts Troops, and the 10K has a 7AM start time. Sigh. It’s all good, though, as I’ll get my potato medal. The race info page doesn’t say anything about everyone getting potatoes and cabbages this year, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
ICE DONNA 5K Mother’s Day Race
Another maybe in the lineup of spring running plans. I ran this race last year, and I love it because it’s right around my birthday. I do have a busy weekend (an event later that day and Mother’s Day the following day), but it would be fun to take another crack at the course. I enjoyed the after party and the vibe, plus the DONNA events are so huge in our area. Founder Donna Deegan is actually the Jacksonville mayor now, so that brings something a little more special to the mix.
Florida Striders Memorial Day 5K
As you all probably know, this is kind of my heart race: the one where it all really began. It’s a nice 5K, and it has a lot of sentimental meaning to me. In fact, I run it as often as I can, so I’d love to keep that streak going. This will round out my spring running plans and segue beautifully into the summer months.
And there you have it. I have a good mix of events in the queue… We will see how they shape up.
What are your spring racing plans looking like?

Wow, you have an ambitious spring running schedule! All those races sound really fun though, and you can’t pass up the potato medal!
I just signed up for a race Memorial Day weekend, which I am very excited about. It’s ten weeks away, giving my ankle plenty of time to heal.

I NEED that potato! We have at least two races every weekend right now. It’s our season!

Fla has so many fun races. I would do them all if I lived nearby.

it would be fun to have some blogger friends come to my area for some of the big races! Or even some of the fun races!

Oh you have the best themed races, Jenn!! Biscuit and bubbles! Yes, please!!
And who wouldn’t want potatoes and cabbages at the finish line! I love it when the race organisers think of useful prizes and give-aways.

It’s so fun sometimes!

You have some fun and themed races on your spring schedule!

The themes of these all look fun! I’m excited to be much closer to a metropolitan area in a very short while …more options for races are on the horizon 🙂

I also would sign up for the Biscuits and Bubbles 5k! I remember years ago hearing about Donna and “her” marathon. Or was it a half? I remember wanting to run but never got the chance. Now she is the mayor? That is awesome.
