I’m writing this post from the comfort of my couch in my home… I’ve been gone for ten days and am so grateful to spend the next week at my house. Yes, things are still very fully scheduled, but it goes a little more easily when you can sleep in your own bed. Let’s see how the week went!

Sunday
- Cardio: 5.27 miles, walking
I feel that starting the week with enthusiasm helps set the tone, so I was all for getting out there.

Things slowed way down this week: it was so hot and humid every day (we’re talking temperatures in the high 70s/low 80s before sunrise), and daily thunderstorms really made it hard to feel motivated.
After my afternoon drop in, I swung by my house for dinner with the boys, and then return to my home away from home.
Monday
- Cardio: 4.56 miles, running + 1.51 miles, walking
The nice thing about dog walking is that you rack up so many extra miles. But I did dedicate a little time to running as well.

The deer have been out and about, sometimes sneaking out very close to people. It’s so cool, but also a little unnerving to have them cross the road right behind you.
I rounded out my fitness with two dog walks, and made it back to my client’s in time for another stormy night.
Tuesday
- Cardio:4.42 miles, running + 1.11 miles, walking
Another deer-filled morning. These guys are so gorgeous and so fearless!

Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.92 miles, walking
Halfway through the week. The days are all running together at this point, but what can you do?

Thursday
- Cardio: 5.33 miles, running + 2.18 miles, walking
Honestly, I’m not sure how I’m going to get in any solid training. It’s like running in lava.

But look what I saw! I was on my cooldown and came across a couple stopped on the side of the road. They had found a baby owl and were working on rescuing it. I helped them with the name and number of an organization I knew, and last I saw, they were on their way to get it somewhere safe. Sweet thing.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.17 miles, running + 1.38 miles, walking
TGIF! It was still so stinking hot, but I pushed through.

Once that was out of the way, Is et about organizing for my return home. It’s been too long.
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.74 miles, walking
Happy departure day! I started Saturday strong with a solid walk.

The plan was to pack up and head home later in the evening, but my client had a change of plans, so some rescheduling had to be done. I wasn’t sorry to get to go home four hours earlier than planned! I was having fun, but there’s no place like home.
Thoughts + Goals
So how was that for the most boring week ever? Sure, I did some work and some reading, and lots of driving around, but that’s about it. I think my brain was pretty full with everything going on in the world, and it was probably good to spend a lot of time in comfy clothes, on the couch, surrounded by amazing animals.
Which brings us to this week. I really want to get back to the gym. Yes, we’ve heard that before, but I miss feeling strong. And I want to start taking a yoga class. Let’s see how that goes for me.
My June run streak is going well, too. I haven’t been posting my tracker consistently, but I’m getting the miles in. It counts.
I also want to start the big purge and organization in the house. It’s one of those things I really want to do, but have to be in the right frame of mind to start.
In Case You Missed It
What animals do you see on your runs and walks? How was your week in training?
Weekly Rundown
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

So much wildlife for you this week! Were you staying near a forest? I’m sure it felt good getting home. Are you able to leave during the day? Can you go home or see your family for dinner at least?
Stay cool!
It was a golf course with some wooded areas, but a subdivision not far from where I live.
Yes, I can leave. This past week, I had my client but then I also had several walks and drop ins with other clients. One was in my neighborhood so that’s when I would go home for a bit. It doesn’t always line up with dinner or even when people are home, but I got to hang with my pugs for a bit.
What a cute baby owl! We have an owl in our back yard that wakes us up at night, but he’s very elusive and we’ve only seen him twice at dusk when he swooped down to grab a little animal (I assume) on the ground. I see a lot of deer, the occasional fox, and sometimes before daylight skunks when I’m out on my walks.
I love foxes, but i have never seen one of those. This neighborhood had the baby owl (I’m sure there were big owls somewhere), deer, bunnies and squirrels. Oh, and snakes, obviously.
Wow, that baby owl is amazing! I’ve never seen an owl in the wild (just at zoos, nature centers, etc.). We see deer often and I saw 4 turtles this week. I also see lots of skunks some seasons- but I stay away from them!
Oh, I love skunks! It would be hard to stay away from them!
The owl was so sweet. I hope he made it.
10 nights away from home is a lot! It will be good to have a week in your own bed.
You got some great photos of the deer! I understand what you mean about it being disconcerting to see them in your neighborhood.
They just creep up behind you. I know they are mostly peaceful, but you just don’t want to scare one!
In terms of workouts-boring is good, boring is consistency! As much as I love to travel, sleeping in your own bed is everything. The deer are terrible around here as well
we don’t really see deer in my neighborhood, so I loved seeing them here.
I slept so well laSt night. So. Well.
Oh, you didn’t have the most boring week ever- I DID. I was sick at home all week and it drove me nuts. I did get out for a few runs but nothing felt great. SIGH. Let’s look ahead! I hope you can get back to a gym routine (I agree- it does feel to feel strong) and I’ll get back to my regular life.
To answer your question, I don’t see a lot of wildlife on my runs. I’ve seen deer and wild pigs but only out on the trails (and even those are rare.) When I’m running around my neighborhoods I don’t see much.
Oh no, not the wild pigs! They are one thing I wouldn’t like to run into. They are MEAN.
I’m so sorry you were sick. I hope you’re feeling better this week.
I love that jumping deer picture. And the poor little owl – glad you happened upon them so you could give the people a good contact!
I volunteered at junior parkrun then saw a massive dog that belonged to a colleague of my friend’s before run-walking home, I think that’s the main animal I’ve seen recently!
Love a massive dog!
I’m so glad I was able to play a small role in the owl rescue. It was so adorable.
That baby owl is so cute! It’s great he was. He (she?) was lucky to have been rescued and taken to safety.
I never got an update, but I hope he was ok. He was so sweet and I wanted to take him home.
Congrats on your streak. Amazing with how busy you are.
I often see deer and rabbits. That’s about it.
Great picture of the deer and omg, what a cute owl!! I hope he grows to be a big, wild owl. It sure is nice to be settled in at home! Enjoy!
I hope he does, too! He was so sweet and probably terrified.
OMG that baby owl! Breaks my heart but so wonderful that both you and the others stopped to help. The world is a great place sometimes. Well done.
And your pic of the deer! What a great catch!
I am always very happy to be home and sleep in my own bed, even though I love to travel!
Sometimes! LOL. I know that’s true. I do hope he’s ok.
The deer was so cool. I didn’t even see the picture until later.
Coming home is the best part of the trip, sometimes!
