That’s right, we are in our summer era, with the summer solstice gracing us this past week. We didn’t celebrate. It’s really just too hot to have much energy for anything. I am coming off of an extremely busy work week, and am also looking to four days “off.” Yes, I have some obligations and meetings, but no walks, no drop ins and no sits! I could use the break!

Sunday
- Cardio: 3.67 miles, walking
Happy Father’s Day to those who celebrate! We have a kind of chill day. I got up super early to snag some miles before a client.

And then we went out to breakfast and to the beach.

It was way too hot to be enjoyable, in my opinion, and I was not at all mad about having ice cream for lunch.

Monday
- Cardio: 6.15 miles, running + .61 miles, walking
The balancing act begins all over again. Even though I was home this week, I spent a good deal of time shoehorning in different activities. Not my favorite, but we got it done.

I got my nails done, as well, and I am so looking forward to my hair appointment on July 4! I am obsessed with those little rocket popsicles, so I had to get this set.

Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.17 miles, running + .38 miles, walking
This week was under way and going strong! I am so grateful for so many things, including all the opportunities that have come my way lately.

Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.81 miles, walking
Yay for a little bit of a walking day. It’s nice to have a break.

Thursday
- Cardio: 6.38 miles, running + walking
Friends, it’s getting hot. Hotter than hot. I’m not loving it at all.

A storm swept through that evening, and I went down hard. Allergies absolutely ruined me. I lost count of my sneezes after number 72 and all I could do was take myself to bed, and hope that I didn’t blow another capillary in my eye ball. Ugh.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.05 miles, running + walking
I found this super cool boardwalk and took myself on a bit of an adventure this morning. It was a little unsettling because it was so early and deserted, but it was worth it to get to the estuary and watch the sun rise.

Sometimes you just have to take the path less traveled.
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.25 miles, walking
I purposely took myself out on an adventure. It’s been a long week and I deserved it.

Busy day – we are prepping for guests for my mom’s birthday on Sunday and just running back and forth to my last client for a week! Whoo! Whatever happened to chill weekends?
Thoughts + Goals
So. This upcoming week is supposed to bring us some new hell called the “Heat Dome.” This is a “phenomenon” where extreme heat is caused when the atmosphere traps hot air as if under a lid. It all just stays trapped there with no convection, no breeze, and no precipitation. Joy.
This begs the question… with temperatures threatening to be in the high 90s and low hundreds (What the actual heck????), do I spend the money on an evening race on Saturday night? One that will take place before sunset. A race that is primarily over a pedestrian bridge. With no shade. It sounds terrible, and not even in the “what time?” kind of way. Ugh. I miss racing but this just seems dangerous and awful.
I also promise that at least one gym visit is happening this week! I have the time! It’s penciled in on my schedule! Let’s do it!
Other than that, things are going… albeit slowly. I have maintained my streak thus far and am just keeping my sights set on cooler and easier days!

Weekly Rundown
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

We are suffering from that very same heat–today is predicted to be 98F! Last time I checked, I was in Chicago… anyhoo, stay safe out there. Enjoy your brief period of downtime!
Right? You shouldn’t be getting any part of that!
No way would I do an evening race in the summer — even without the heat dome. Sounds risky with 0% chance of being fun.
Love your festive manicure!
Risky with 0% chance of fun needs to be on a t-shirt. You’re right. It’s just going to be absolute lava at the top of the bridge, even if there are dolphins in the water below. That doesn’t mean I won’t do it. But I’m not signing up until a few days before, if I do.
We are also in that steamy heat dome and I am not a fan. Stay cool! Love the cute manicure-while I get mine done every 2 weeks, I don’t have the patience to sit for so long for all the extra designs. But I do love them when I do!
My artist is super fast. The longest part is the gel builder and shaping. I go every four weeks and they usually last the whole time. I just can’t get embellishments or anything raised because I will pick pick pick at it.
Eek- a heat dome??? That sounds terrible! I mean even more terrible than usual! I don’t think we’re getting it (the benefits to being on the peninsula, I guess.)
To answer your question- I love going on adventures when I run! I feels like it’s been a very long time since I’ve done that.
Enjoy your downtime- I would imagine you’re going to get busy again soon. July 4th seems like a big travel time for people. Happy Birthday to your mom!
I think you are just outside it. I’m sure it’s not much cooler, but the is all just sitting like a soupy stew. Blech.
Honestly, I took off 4th of July through the following weekend. I honestly hate the fireworks, and I would rather be with my own pups (who also hate fireworks) than trying to deal with someone else’s pet. It was the one weekend that wasn’t really booking fast, so I just shut it down.
Ditto on the heat wave. Well, a heat wave for Iowa is the Florida norm. It got in the 90’s (over 100 with humidity), but it came on quick with not much warning.
It’s just oppressive.
Gotta say, an evening race ANYWHERE in the summer sounds awful. But then again, running after 10am is not my favorite 😉 Running it in Florida sounds even more challenging!
Love your nails, so cute!
Listen. I hate when races start at 8AM (why can’t we normalize a 6:30 start????) but I miss racing and I am so behind on my goal for the year. This is the one time I have open. And I can just walk it. We will see. It won’t sell out so I can make it a game time decision.
I think you’re wise to be second guessing doing an evening race with the forecasted oppressive heat. How fun to run out to watch the sun rise over the estuary. I love that kind of adventure!
I could walk. I’m thinking about just walking. But ugh. I want to run a race!
It was really pretty. I was a little nervous being out in the marsh by myself, especially when two maintenance guys came up on me while I was on the pier. They were emptying garbage and doing cleanup, and they were very nice, but I was making escape plans in my head the whole time.
I love love love your nails!! They are so amazing – perfect for the season but really just fun overall. I hear ya about running in the heat. I still prefer it to ice and single degrees, but I doubt I’d enjoy Florida running!
Thank you! I love cute nails.
I don’t love ice, but I could totally handle some snow right now
