Hello, July! This makes it officially the halfway point of 2025 which means it’s time for a mid-year review. How has the year been treating me? Honestly, it hasn’t been the best. I’m taking each day as it comes, staying grateful for the things that matter, and keeping my focus on what should be a better end of the year.

Goals For The First Half Of 2025
My goals are generally very similar from year to year.
- Run at least one race per month
- Add states to my 50 Races In 50 States Goal
- Continue my run/walk streak for as long as I can
I had planned to run a half marathon this year, but that goal got set to the side. There’s always 2026.

How Many Miles Have You Run?
To date, I’ve run 549.62 miles and walked 450.25 miles. I know my dog walking helped bolster those walking numbers quite a bit, which is a lovely side effect. In February and March, I slacked off on the runs quite a bit, even though I was still walking, but it was one of the things that led to me currently feeling a bit off my game.

How Many Pairs Of Shoes Have You Used?
I’m currently cycling through three pairs of Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24. I have a fourth older pair that I use for dog walking and another pair I use for the gym. These are all the brightest of bright colors and I love each one more than the next. I have my eye on a retro orange colored pair for my next purchase, and I can’t wait!

How Many Races have You Run?
My goal ia always to run on race a month, but scheduling has not been kind. Ugh. Instead, I’ve only run three races thus far (two 5Ks and a 10K). This is pretty discouraging, and I’m really reconsidering my plan not to run on 4th of July. I don’t think I’ll make it back to 12 races before the year ends, but I really want to do better than I am.

How Many New States Have You Added To Your 50 Races In 50 States Goal?
In the past six months, I’m proud to say I added Mississippi to my overall tally, bringing my total number of states to 13! Still a far cry from 50, but we are getting there. In February, we took a road trip to Biloxi for the very humid, very drizzly Casino Bridge Run 5K. Better weather would have made this a much better experience but it was a great trip and event.

Have You Taken On Any Challenges?
As usual, I took on the #StreakingWithTheCoolKids challenge, running or walking one intentional, uninterrupted mile every day for the month of June. That was a success, and I will continue streaking.

What’s Your Favorite Medal So Far?
I don’t have many to choose from, but I am always a huge fan of the Best Damn Race bling. These little license plates were just too cute, and I love how they capture the spirit of the location.

How Are You Feeling?
Meh. To be honest, I’m a little down on myself. With everything that is happening this year, I feel like I haven’t held on to the things that are a huge part of my identity. And while I know there are more important things than running and races and all of that, it’s good to have things that help you feel whole and complete. I’m not always the best at adjusting to new situation, but I think I’ve done ok managing the curveballs. And I’m looking forward to getting back to “myself.”

What’s Next?
It’s time to get serious. Game face on. The plan is to get stronger and faster, so I can go farther! In these last six months of the year, I want to get back on a race course (and be excited about it!) and I do want to build up my stamina and speed again so I feel more confident while I’m out there.

Tell me about your mid-year review. Are you happy with where you are? How do you plan to chase your goals moving forward?

Thanks for such an honest mid-year check-in. Even if things haven’t gone to plan, 550 miles run and 450 walked is no small feat!
I love how you’re focusing on what matters and staying open to a strong second half. That retro orange pair of Brooks sounds like the perfect spark to get the mojo back – here’s to feeling more like yourself again soon, Jenn!
You have great plans…
And that streak is amazing…
I’ve run quite a few races but my mileage is way down and I definitely do not get out everyday.
I haven’t counted my new running shoes – I know it’s too many.
Great job on your running and walking miles! You have way more than me. I understand the way you feel. There are days when I try not to think about what is happening right now, but sometimes that is impossible. I cannot imagine things getting better, but I know to take it one day at a time.
I just can’t get too far ahead of myself or I will SPIRAL right out of control. I’m so done with all of this crap.
