January Coffee Date: New Year, Fresh Start

January 1, 2026      22 Comments

How fitting that we are starting 2026 with a coffee date? It’s a great way to kick it off and

After reading here, head on over to visit Coco and Deborah, our awesome link-up hosts.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Ultimate-Coffee-Date-1.jpg

Time to get our coffee on!

Over Coffee, I Would Tell You…

That I bought another new planner. I’m on the quest for the perfect version, and I hope this one checks all the boxes. It’s from Saint Belford, and it’s fairly large with tons of trackers, and space for lists and notes. I can’t wait for it to arrive. It should be here Monday, and I can’t wait to start filling it out!

I Would Also Share…

That I have settled on my first race of the year: the Resolution Run 5K! It’s one I’ve done before, but it’s a pretty course, and it’s close to a special client. It only makes sense to give it another go. Will it be as cold as it has been in the past? Only time will tell!

With Coffee In Hand, I Would Tell You…

That I had a very interesting encounter while on vacation. Every morning, i got up and went out for a little walk in the neighborhood where we were staying. On most days, all I saw were the deer, the cows, and some squirrels. But one morning, a man drove up in an old car, with a beautiful dog hanging out the back window. He stopped and started telling me all about how he was looking for his friend’s dog, who he was watching while the friend was away. My spidey senses didn’t go off… he really seemed upset and searching, but I kept my distance from the car, shared zero info about myself (that we weren’t on the neighborhood nextdoor or facebook pages), and didn’t offer up a phone number or ask for his if I saw the dog. He did give me his address in case I found the missing pup, but I never did. I do hope the dog got home. And I’m also glad I didn’t get abducted… I didn’t even ask to pet the dog in the back seat!

If We Were Having Coffee, I Would Share…

That while I am nervous about this upcoming year, I am excited to see what’s in store. 2025 wasn’t the best, but 2026 is starting a little better. Fingers crossed.

My Final Coffee Thought Is…

That we had the best vacation with A and H. We really focused on relaxing and resetting, and I tried very hard not to overplan or create strict schedules. For the most part, it absolutely worked out. Sure, our tubing day was in the 70s, and we ended up waiting over two hours for the mountain coaster, but it was all part of the experience. More of this, please.

What would you share with me over coffee? Are you ready for the new year?

Happy New Year, Jenn. I am intrigued to hear more about your new planner! I still haven’t decided which one to get but need to get on it because THE NEW YEAR IS HERE!

I also signed up for my first race… I finally needed to get something on the calendar!

I hope this new year is kind to us!

Monday is the delivery day! I’m annoyed by how long it’s taking, so I hope it’s worth it!

Yay for planners! I need to update/set up my journal (also known as my planner — I pile everything into it, hehe). It’s been so busy this week, but hoping for some breathing room this weekend!

Hope you have fun on your first run and wishing you a great year! :]

I have to resist to overplan on our family vacations and just let everyone do what they want to during the day and plan the dinner reservations. I am more of a doer and they just want to sleep in and chill. Happy new year to you Jenn! Hope this year is happy and healthy one

      Happy new year!

I will go for a walk or run while they sleep in. At least that way I feel like I’m being productive about my time. It’s not ideal.

Happy New Year!!! I also have a new planner- it’s bigger than my old one with lots of space for… well, I’m not exactly sure what I’ll use all the space for yet. I’ve been procrastinating getting it up and running, probably because I don’t want the holidays to end. But, it’s January so I better get moving.
Glad you had such a nice vacation! Yes, relaxing and resetting is exactly what you need after the holidays. When is your race? With the name it sounds like a January event. It got REALLY cold down here, so I’m imagining it’s cold where you are as well.

      I’m all about the space!

It’s the weekend of the 17th. It’s a really pretty, river front course, and I will be able to run and then go check in on some cats I’m watching. Oh, and grab coffee at my favorite coffee shop. It’s perfect.

Oh my goodness, we were FREEZING. Ice and everything!

Happy New Year! I am a huge fan of planners but I barely used my Passion Planner last year so I’m trying to figure out what system will work this year. I hope your new one works well!

I’m glad that encounter ended safely – you just never know these days! I had to re-read that you were on vacation because I was confused the cows LOL!

happy new year darling! neither one of us had a great year so I think that means we both really deserve a good one! As for planners I am not allowed to buy any new planner or journal (denied by myself because I have 17 unused ones in my cupboard!!) but I am trying to utilize the one I tried to use last year to see if I can get myself organized.

you know what is weird – the guy with the missing dog thing… that literally happened to me about a month ago. Like completely the other side of the planet. And I also didn’t go for it. BIZARRE. And sad we really can’t trust these kinds of situations these days.

Hahaha at 17 unused planners. I hope you are able to accomplish your organization goals.

It’s just a little unnerving when a man approaches a woman in the middle of nowhere and can’t read the signs that she is backing away and trying to keep space. I’m glad we are both safe.

    Happy New Year!
I love having a new planner — I think it’s the promise of the new year and all that I might do/acheive.

It’s sad that a man searching for a dog raises suspicions these days, but I think I would have been wary too. I’ve been in a few situations where in retrospect I’ve been glad I didn’t get abducted — mostly sketchy cab situations.

I just love a fresh planner!

Right? I had to physically back up a step, and say to myself “he’s probably fine, but if someone was going to kidnap you, this would be the way.” I do hope he found that dog.

I barely used my 2025 planner so I think I’m going to stick with my online calendar and notebook this year. That’s what I’ve mostly used.

Balancing planning and winging it on vacation is tough for me. I’m a do-er. Luckily on vacation my husband is, too. So that works for us,

    Here’s to a better 2026!

I wish online calendars worked well for me. I do better when I’m physically writing things down.

I didn’t mind winging it this time, because I was prepared for it and we’ve been to this area of georgia enough that I don’t feel like I’m missing much. And, in fact, getting to ride the mountain coaster was a happy, spontaneous thing that I might have written off if we were making plans. The next vacation will be way more intentional.

I’ve always bought “fancy” planners in the past, but my place of work gave us month-at-a-glance planners. They are much more condensed (monthly rather than weekly) than what I’ve been accustomed to, but are really nice! I”m gonna give this new one a go, and see if it’s a good fit. The others were too bulky to transport, but this will allow for me to have EVERYTHING in one place.

I was up and out early to drive to Flagler Beach for the #Missionpossible5k.

It was a small, well organized event, with an easy-to-follow course (the last mile was almost exclusively an ocean view), with great shirts and swag.

I was really pleased with my performance, and even more pleased with this beach sunrise. I’ll share more on the #RunnersRundown on Wednesday, so stay tuned!
