As a parent, content creator, and professional pet sitter, my brain rarely has an “Off” switch. Between school forms, client content calendars, trending audios, and ensuring my four-legged clients are happy and healthy, the mental load can be more than a list. It can be a weight. We often say we “have to” be this busy, but remember: What you’re not changing, you’re choosing. This Tuesday, let’s choose to lighten the load with a five-step mental audit.

The Tactical Brain Dump
Your brain is for having ideas, not holding them. When you try to remember that you need to schedule a client’s Tuesday post AND buy poster board for a school project AND make it on time to your next pup client walk, your “RAM” runs out.
The Shift: Scribble everything down on paper before bed. Once it’s written, your brain finally gets permission to stop “looping” the reminder.

The “Daily Friction” Audit
In life, we often deal with the same “friction points” every single day: the dirty laundry, the last-minute lunch packing, the “where is my charger?” hunt.
The Shift: Pick one small thing that frustrated you this morning. Can you change the setup tonight? If not, can you at least give yourself five extra minutes of grace tomorrow?

Closing the “Open Tabs”
In today’s fast-paced world, we live in a state of “almost done.” Half-written captions, incomplete grocery lists, and “pending” client approvals act like open tabs on a browser. They drain your battery even when you aren’t looking at them.
The Shift: Pick one project and either finish it, schedule it, or decide it’s okay to delete it. Clearing the “almost done” list is an instant mood booster.

Share The Load
As a pet sitter, I know that people trust me with their most precious family members so they can have peace of mind. But who am I trusting with my load? Whether it’s at home or in your business, we weren’t meant to do it all in a vacuum.
The Shift: Where can you ask for a hand? Whether it’s having a partner handle a chore or using an automation tool for a client, letting go of one task creates room for the things you actually enjoy.

Curate Your Intake
As a social media manager, I have to be on social media quite a bit, which means I’m constantly exposed to the “noise” of a heavy world. Being a parent makes that weight feel even heavier. It’s a lot, and I never want to stick my head in the sand.
The Shift: You can be informed without being flooded. It’s okay to mute accounts or set “news-free” hours. Protecting your peace isn’t ignoring the world; it’s making sure you have enough energy left for the people who need you right now.

The goal of an audit isn’t to reach a “zero” load: that’s pretty much impossible in today’s day and age. The goal is to ensure that the load you are carrying is one you’ve intentionally chosen.
