I usually don’t do “random thoughts” posts, but I’ve got a lot of things rolling around in my head, and the best way to get them out is just to share.
I’ve dropped a size in Old Navy and Target workout clothes. I was getting close, but it was still a 50/50 shot up or down. Not so much anymore! Weight loss is really on the lower end of my goals with running (my priority is being fit and healthy – the rest will fall into place), but this fact did make me give myself a little, internal high five. Ok, ok. A big, internal high five.
You may have noticed a pretty piece of bling on my sidebar.
That’s right! I’m now part of fitapproach.com’s wonderful team of athletes who are spreading the word about fitness and healthy living. I want to help motivate and inspire others to get out there and be active. It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of this and I’m really excited about it. I got a shipping notification that my “sweat pink” tank and pink shoelaces are on their way, and I cannot wait to get that package!
I’m developing calluses between my little and fourth toes. It’s kind of annoying, but it makes me feel like a real runner.
My eating habits are changing. Or, shall I say, my cravings are changing. I’ve been craving so much more protein (like turkey and fish), and I find myself not super interested in foods that really used to be favorites (Like french fries. Not that I eat them a lot, but I did enjoy when I ordered them… now, I can kind of take them or leave them, and mostly, I leave them). I’m working with it.
I rode down a water slide for the first time in years, at the request of my son. It was a lot more fun than I remembered. I should do it more often.
It has come to my attention that some runners have different shoes for different kinds of runs. I’m not sure what to do with this information. On a good day, my shoe collection boasts a pair of Chuck Taylors, 5-13 pairs of $2.50 Old Navy flip flops and a couple of “fancier” sandals (most likely from Target). Oh, and my Mizunos. The thought of having more than one pair of running shoe is absolutely mind-boggling, and is really going to be eating away at me. Especially as I am nearing the lower end of my mileage limit for these shoes. Hmmmm. What to do, what to do?
When was the last time you went down a water slide?
How many pairs of running shoes do you have in rotation at one time?
Share something random for this Thursday 🙂
Matilda says
I could not tell you the last time I went down a water slide. It’s obviously been a long time.
I use to have 2 pairs of Kayano’s, which I rotated. But I’ve had to retire those shoes, as well they were giving me drama’s. I now have a pair of brooks, but sadly only 1 pair. I will have to get another pair (in another colour), and start rotating them.
Random thought – sausages and rice for dinner… nothing excited, been so busy i’ve only had the chance now to sit down.

Oh, testing new shoes is fun! Shoe dramas are the worst!
I’m telling you – the water slide was great. I hate going under because of my contacts, but the pool was shallow enough that I could put my feet down without an issue, so I was like ah… what the heck.
Hope you’re feeling better and next week you are back up to speed!
Karen says
Hmm…I’m not sure the last time I went down a water slide…maybe that’s a sign that I need to go to a water park asap? :p
I have two shoes in rotation now: Brooks Ghost 5’s and Saucony Kinvara 3’s. I was in love with my Ghost 5’s at first and they are a great running shoe but lately they have been feeling “heavy” on my feet, like they are weighing me down. The Kinvara’s are great because they are lighter. I need to keep a log of how I feel because although I want to wear the minimal shoes, I think my feet need the support from the Ghost 5…they are probably better for my knees..
Thursday Random: I just bought a new coffee maker last night and I’m waiting for my first cup of coffee to brew, hope it’s a good one! 🙂

So far, I really like sturdy, “hard” shoes. However, I really haven’t experimented around, so I guess I can’t say for sure if other shoes would feel as good.
What kind of coffeemaker? I don’t drink coffee, but we have a Keurig that Mr PugRunner would be lost without.

Congrats on the ambassadorship, that’s so darn neat!!!
Oh and the feet and cravings… You’re definately turning into an athlete 🙂
P.S. I’m jealous of your water sliding!
runswithpugs says
Thank you!
I’m trying! I hope I don’t lose any toenails. That kind of freaks me out a bit.
My friend suggested going to Aquatica, even with little man. It was never on my radar because I just don’t do water parks. But… I survived yesterday, so maybe….

Congrats on SPA 🙂 I can’t tell you the last time I was on a water slide but my daughter loves them so I’m sure it won’t be long before I am again!

I cannot remember the last time I went down a water slide. Does a pool slide count? 😉
After I got Mizunos, I swore to never run in another shoe. But that went out the window when I did the Ninja Challenge Obstacle 5k and didn’t want to get my Mizunos muddy. For that I wore my old Asics.
Something random. Well, I left my purse at home and didn’t realize it until I was almost at work, and I have a nearly 40 mile one-way commute. Thank goodness I have the Starbucks app on my phone so I could get fru-fru coffee instead of having to scrounge around in the spare change in my car to find enough to pay for a tall blonde. 🙂

The last time I went down a water slide was last year @ Splash Town in Saco 🙂 I have about 3 pairs in rotation right now. Two pairs of Asics gel nimbus and a pair of UA Reigns. I wear one of the asics for my trail and muddier runs, the other pair of for the road, and the UAs are for the treadmill.

Ah! A recent water slider! Yay!
So it makes sense to have some for the messy runs. I’m going to ask about a different pair when I’m at the running store.
Tammy says
Water slides keep you young. 😉 Fun to act like a kid.
I wear the same shoes all day, every day. I have thought about investing in racing shoes- lightweight and will cut seconds off of racing time.
But, they are $$- and I just can’t justify wearing shoes only for racing.
runswithpugs says
LOL!
Yes, that’s one way of looking at it, but on the other…. they are the only shoes I do spend money on. I prefer to be barefoot as much as possible. I guess we’ll see as I go along.
Kristin Smith @ A Mom on the Run says
I couldn’t tell you the last time I went down a water slide. We should try it out on Saturday 🙂
I usually rotate two pair of shoes — they’re the same shoe, I don’t wear the older ones for long runs though, just for short/quick ones. I keep the newer ones for long runs and when they have 200 or so miles on them, I get new shoes and retire them to my short run shoe.
Something random.. umm.. I’ve been craving peanut butter and jelly sandwiches like crazy for the last week. I seriously cannot wait ’til lunch time so I can eat one.

How fun! I love water slides! My husband and I were on a cruise recently and there was a big slide with NO one on it. soooo, we started going down the slide and within minutes we were joined by like 10 small children. It was a lot of fun. 🙂

Congratulations on the bonus weight loss and on being a new SPA! I can’t remember the last time I went down a water slide which makes me a little sad. I currently have 2 pairs of shoes in rotation, I’m looking for another pair. Random thought…hmm…I haven’t cooked in one wk and I’m secretly hoping the refrigerator delivery man gets lost on the way to my house, haha.

not sure how many I have in my rotation..might be a little embarrassing to admit, at least 8. Some are for long runs, trail runs, speed work, races. I just love running shoes!

I’m only running in one pair of shoes right now. I didn’t realize people had so many at once! I sort of fall in love with a pair and enjoy seeing the miles add up until they wear out. It makes that next shoe purchase feel like a special occasion!
Congrats on becoming an ambassador! I love the idea of being an inspiration in the fitness community. What sorts of things do you do as an ambassador? There weren’t any in my area – maybe I need to change that!

As far as being an ambassador, you can go to the fitapproach website and submit an application. Basically, it’s all about motivating and inspiring others to be healthy. I’m new to the team, but I am trying to be a positive fitness voice through my blog and social media, and I am hoping to join some of the other ambassadors at a Sweat Pink event or three. Everyone has been so encouraging and supportive, and it’s really wonderful being able to pay it forward to other on their journey of health and fitness. Definitely check it out!
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom says
I only have one pair of running shoes because that’s all I can afford at a time. I know a lot of runners have more, but I can’t afford it, even though I’d like to! Maybe when I finish grad school and get a real job, I can spend all my money on running shoes 😛
Congrats on joining the SPA team 😀 Now we will for sure have to meet up at the TOT 10-miler! And possibly the space coast half if I can convince myself to sign up for it. I really want to sign up for the Run on the Beach Half in Cocoa in October…but I haven’t decided yet!

Congrats on being a SPA! You’re going to be fabulous at it!
I have one pair of running shoes. If I start trail runs, I’ll get a pair more suited for those types of runs.
I haven’t been down a water slide in ages. I’m a lazy river kinda gal. Especially if there’s a cold drink on my inner tube.
And, um, my random thing, umm I have a race a week from Saturday and haven’t figured out what I’m wearing yet. Other than clothes, obviously.

Congrats on the SPA! I’m waiting for my tank and pink shoe laces, too!
I usually rotate between two pairs of running shoes. One pair is slightly older, but not quite ready to retire and they are my rainy/muddy running shoes, while the newer pair are for fair weather. Once the old need to retire, I get rid of them and move the others to be my muddy shoes and buy new ones for fair weather!
BTW, I just pinned a Chipotle guacamole copy-cat recipe to my Healthy Appetizer board for you! I don’t know if you’ve tried it or not, but thought I’d mention it. 🙂

Congrats on SweatPink.
I have only ever run in one type of shoe Wave Creations – which are a heavier, bulkier, help keep my injury prone butt safe shoe. However, I am very excited to try a new lightweight pair I was gifted by Mizuno, the Wave Sayonara. Now I feel like one of those super fancy runners.
