color me rad 5k (plus a discount code for you)

July 29, 2013      9 Comments

Since I started running in February, I have been stepping out of my comfort zone on the regular.

First it was actual running. Then it was registering for races and putting myself in an unknown situation, in public, surrounded by strangers. I mean, this is the stuff of nightmares. However, it’s been good for me to push and to keep flirting with my boundaries.

Which is why, when I was offered the opportunity to run in our local Color Me Rad 5K, I decided to go for it.

Even though the idea of being covered in vivid corn starch makes me a little nervous, I have really wanted to participate in a color run. I have some friends who will probably come with me, and little man wants to join me, so it promises to be a really fun and exciting time. This is an untimed race, so I plan to take my time and really soak up the experience. I only hope the colors are as brilliant as the ones pictured above.

Runs like the Color Me Rad 5K are great for the sense of community. I love the idea of teams and groups of friends and families, getting out and getting active together, with an element of fun and spontaneity. It’s not a traditional event, in the sense of rigorous training and vying for a PR, but it is a healthy and enjoyable way to spend a Saturday morning.

Are you a color run veteran who can’t wait to participate in your next brilliant race? Have you always wanted to give one a try? Now’s your chance.

From Monday, July 29 through Wednesday, July 31, if you register for ANY Color Me Rad 5K location, enter the code “radfun” and you will receive 20% off your registration fee. There are more than 50 race opportunities remaining in 2013, so don’t miss out!

Questions about the Color Me Rad 5K, like what to wear 0r what the color is made of? Check here for answers.

You can also follow Color Me Rad on Facebook and Twitter, to keep up with the latest, colorful happenings.

I’m ready to have some fun with this! How about you?

I received a complimentary registration for my local Color Me Rad 5K in exchange for sharing my race experience on www.runswithpugs.com. All opinions are my own.

Awesome! Little man said he wanted to do it, but he will definitely be in if B does it too. I was thinking about letting him “run” in swim goggles. He might think that’s cool.

Uh oh. But what if I instead prefer the fancy artificial colored icing that goes on top of a slice of cake? Surely I am DOOMED!

I’m doing it more and more! I don’t know that I’ll ever be up to a mud run, though. That might be just one step too far 🙂

I want to do a color run, too. I love that they usually aren’t timed and it’s a fun event that anyone can enjoy!

In flight? You know it! I’m adjusting my schedu In flight? You know it!

I’m adjusting my schedule a little bit. Right now, I just can’t get up as early as I would like, but that’s ok. Things can be shuffled and rearranged.

Additionally, I rescued a big dog this morning with another neighbor. I heard galloping behind me as I was heading home and was almost tackled by a huge doodle-type. Between us, we were able to call the microchip service and get his address and she went to notify the owner. He wasn’t a good walker and he even knocked me down (very slowly and dramatically) while I held him and waited. He is home safe and sound and I’m wondering how many people carry leashes with them on the run just in case this happens. This is my second rescue in a few weeks. It’s becoming a thing.

Any plans this weekend? Any dog rescues while running?

Baby, it’s cold 🥶 outside! Peep that frost! Baby, it’s cold 🥶 outside!

Peep that frost!

Solid five miles this morning. I just started the strength training plan I won from @kimrunsthemitten so I was a little sore but I think the frosty air was good for my muscles.

It’s promising to be a pretty day so fingers crossed for more outdoors time!

How are you honoring this day?

It’s a beautiful weekend for the #staugfilmfest! It’s a beautiful weekend for the #staugfilmfest! We saw @tiger24film, presented by @staugalligatorfarm at the Lewis Auditorium, and it was truly an incredible and thought provoking documentary on the tenuous balance between wild animals in their natural habitat, humans, and the consequences that occur when the two come together.

There is still plenty of time to check out screenings at three locations this afternoon and evening! Visit https://www.staugfilmfest.com for ticket details!
