On top of all the fireworks, we did have some peripheral effects of Elsa this week. Our area was spared the worst of it, and we came away with nothing more than a gray week, with oversaturated yards, and the sighting of a nasty water spout not too far away. Did it mess with my training too much? Nope. I’ve gotten pretty good at running in the rain, so another storm wasn’t going to get me down.
Sunday – 2.76 miles, walking
Happy 4th of July! I had gone back and forth about heading up to our local Independence Day race, but I just didn’t feel like waking up early. Instead, I ventured out on my own, hoping to do four miles, but Mr PugRunner had to come save me just shy of three miles because of lightning. Whoops.
Our big plans for the day were to go to a friend’s house for dinner, drinks, and fireworks. It was a really nice afternoon and evening, and we enjoyed the beautiful view of the fireworks. We did end up leaving before all the shows were over just to get home to the doggos.
Monday – 5.04 miles, bridge repeats
I don’t know what I was thinking, but I got my booty up on Monday morning, and went to the bridge for repeats. At first, I regretted everything, and then it got better. I also did some running on the actual beach, which was a nice way to change things up.
Tuesday – 5 miles, running + 1.17 miles, walking
This was a hot and swampy one, for sure. The ongoing rain and wind leads to a lot of humidity, which makes for a miserable run, but we get through us as best we can.
Wednesday – 4.57 miles, walking
Oof. This was a rough one. No lightning, but I was in for quite the drizzle. However, as the walk went on, the wind picked up, and towards the end, I was really getting blown around. Eeesh. This continued throughout the day, but we never lost power or had anything more than some heavy rain and gusts. We were super lucky.
I ended up not feeling great the rest of the day. For some reason, my appetite has been off, and it’s making me sort of sluggish. My guess is that it’s so hot that I just can’t get excited about food.
Thursday – 9 miles, running + .79 miles, walking
Our long run got moved to Thursday again, since I had a race on Saturday. I wasn’t super excited about it, but it had to be done. This time, we left at 5:30 and that made such a huge difference in the temperature and our moods. We got it done.
Friday – 3.76 miles, walking
Got stuck in a little more rain on today’s walk. I was able to hide under a tree to snap a photo.
Mr PugRunner took the day off, and the boys went out to breakfast. Then we picked up our race packets, did some shopping at Target and grabbed lunch at the marina. It was a nice afternoon, and I picked up a few things to start working on our guest room and closet. It’s been a bit of a catch-all room and I’m ready to handle that situation.
Saturday – Bridge of Lions 5K + 1.15 miles, walking
And it was race day! Obviously, I will share the full race report this week, but this was a hard effort. Obviously, a July 5K is going to be tough, and the Bridge of Lions 5K does not disappoint. On the plus side, I ran a strong race (for me) and was really pleased.
Afterwards, we got breakfast at the cutest little place near downtown. My avocado toast was divine.
That evening, A’s friend came over and we had Chinese food, and then made popcorn to watch Black Widow at home. I miss the movies, but I’m just not ready to go back, and it’s great to have the option to stream new releases from the couch. That being said, the movie was brilliant and we all loved it so much.
Goal-getting
Despite the weather, I still got in some solid miles that makes me very happy. I’m feeling fairly confident about pushing into the double digits and hanging out at that level more consistently.
July seems like a really long month. For some reason, it feels like there is an extra week in there, but I’m not mad about it. We have some fun things planned, and if this rain ever clears up, we are actually going to get to the beach! Can you believe we haven’t been yet?
I’m spending some time purging and organizing again. I still haven’t put up all the wall decor in our bedroom since we had everything painted, and I need to get on that. I also need to purge my closets again – I haven’t been as ruthless as I need to be, and it’s time.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training?
Does the heat mess with your appetite? Any house projects on the horizon? Did you see Black Widow?
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Glad you were spared the worst of Elsa.
Congrats on a strong 5k. Can’t wait to read about it.
I really to purge all my closets.
Planning on a kitchen renovation.
Deborah Brooks says
we had some remnants from Elsa as well. No fun at all. Glad it was not too bad for you. Another 5k!? How fun. Congrats on another great week
Kimberly Hatting says
Our house seems to be in a constant state of projects. This weekend, the hubs and I painted the oldest daughter’s old bedroom (…sigh…), as it’s now his new home office. I have tons of closet purging that needs tackled, and even more weeds that need to be dealt with (yet) in more of my flower plots and gardens. Excited to hear how your 5K went!

Love all the runs you did this week – running on the beach must be quite a tough workout! Congrats on the race and I can’t wait to read that recap!
Kim G says
I’m glad that Elsa didn’t hit your area too hard. I’m always worried about Florida every time we hot hurricane season.
Totally agree with you about purging. I feel like I always do spring cleaning, but with me now working from home permanently, I can probably donate/sell some work clothes as well and do more of a purge.
Looking forward to your race recap!
Jenny says
Funny, because somehow I remember when I lived up north when it rained it would cool things off. NOT IN FLORIDA! The rain just makes things more steamy. It can get pretty tough out there. Congrats on your race! I’m looking forward to the recap.
Liz Dexter says
Glad you escaped the worst of it and well done for getting your 9 miles in (did you have to get up super-early to have breakfast first?) and for your race!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Congrats on your race! Happy to know you are pleased with it. I have not watched Black Widow but know other friends that have seen it. How do you stream it at home? I would also love to watch it at home too. I need to purge as well. As you know I want to move (I’ve been saying that for a long time) and getting rid of stuff will make the move easier.
Wendy says
Crazy how much rain you are getting–I know it’s the tropics and all, but isn’t usually just an afternoon rain and done? Seems different this year.
I had all these plans to purge and organize and whelp…
Congrats on your race!!! July is always a tough time to run.
Michelle D. says
You had a great week despite the crazy weather!
I’m glad you enjoyed Black Widow – my boys are pushing to see it in the theater but I’m leaning towards streaming it.
Congrats on a strong 5K!

I feel you on the heat impact on the appetite.
COngrats on a strong 5K. So sorry I forgot to check in on Saturday about that

Congrats on the 5! Glad you were hit too hard by Elsa. I am off on Thursday and Friday and have big plans for cleaning and purging. We’ll see what actually happens.

I got the guest room decorated today! I am ordering some wall decor but yay for being done!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I definitely lose my appetite in the heat.
Congrats on your 5k ! They are tough without a bridge thrown in.
Glad Elsa wasn’t too bad. Otherwise sounds like a fun week!

Congrats on the 5k! What is a water spout? Like a tornado? Scary! Glad you were spared the worst of Elsa. I don’t know if I miss the movies- I prefer watching at home with my own snacks in my jammies 🙂
Big fan of avocado toast, don’t care if I’m basic, teehee. It’s so good!
Sounds like a really fun week!
runswithpugs says
YES!!! It’s literally a tornado in the water! Terrifying!
I used to go to the movies by myself about every other week. I miss movie popcorn (although mine is healthier).
I’ll be basic with you.
Marcia says
Hooray for a strong 5k! I’ve not seen BW but our younger daughter has tickets to go see it with friends this week. That’s some gorgeous avocado toast!

The radish made it perfect!

It sounds like you had a great week and luckily didn’t have to worry too much about Elsa.
Yay for another in-person 5K!
