For real, the heat is on, here. It’s relentless and miserable, and to be honest, I want to go nowhere once I get showered for the day. That being said, it was a busy week and I am glad to have a quiet day today.
Sunday – 3.57 miles, walking
I’m always ready for quiet Sundays. I didn’t rush my walk at all.
A had a friend over for breakfast, and then we just did our Sunday things. Shark Week started on Sunday, too, so we made a “Shark-cuterie” platter for the event. Yum.
Monday – 4.85 miles, bridge repeats
I may have slept late again on Monday. Whoops. We all did. I got to the bridge later than intended and got to work.
And yes, I put these new beauties through their paces.
Afterwards, Luna had a vet appointment. It was her official annual physical and she hated every second of it. She had two shots and one oral booster, and we decided to get her fixed when A goes back to school. Tears. It’s bizarre how she loves everything, but loathes the car and the vet. I even took her to get nuggets after, but she wouldn’t eat them until we were safely home. š
Tuesday – 5 miles, running + 1.25 miles, walking
J and I took on our five miles, and it’s always a great time, but the heat and humidity makes it so hard. Even leaving super early doesn’t make it better. We do what we can.
A ended up going to the office with Mr PugRunner, so I took the day to run some errands on my own. I’m working on updating our guest rom, and that’s almost done and ready to share!
Wednesday – 4.07 miles, walking
Not going to lie, it’s hard to get the motivation to walk, especially outside. I want to sleep in and avoid it, but then I’m “punished” with unyielding, beating sun, and so much humidity. Ugh. After these miles, I decided to see if I could still manage a crow. It was slippery and I almost face planted, but yay!
Thursday – 9 miles, running + 1.39 miles, walking
This long run! Ugh! Neither one of us wanted to do it, but we committed to the time and made our plans. It was awful from the start. My stomach was absolutely out of control, and I had to actually excuse myself from the run for a few minutes to go home and use the bathroom. Also? My ankle started really hurting and I couldn’t figure it out. Turns out, I had some swelling, and the new shoes rubbed in just the right (wrong) spot. Of course, that’s better than something being wrong with my hardware, so I was relieved.
Mr PugRunner invited me to join him for lunch, as his original appointment had to cancel on him, and it was nice to get away to share that time with him. We really don’t get a lot of dedicated time together, so it was good to be able to hang out and chat.
That night, we went out with J’s family for a celebration for her husband. It was a really nice time, and we ended up joining in the Thursday night trivia. We didn’t win but it was a great time!
Friday –Ā 3.69 miles, walking
The boys planned a day together, so I was on my own again. I walked a bit.
Then I filmed some content and worked on some things around the house. I planned to go hunt for a charcuterie board, but I ended up taking too long doing other tasks, and gave up the idea.
We met a large group of friends for pizza and had a great time catching up with everyone.
Saturday –Ā 5 miles, running + 2 miles, walking
Blah, blah, blah. Our legs were so tired, but we pushed through. Sometimes, runs are like that.
We invited J’s family to come over to watch Black Widow with us. Mr PugRunner had plans for the grill, and I am obsessed with the movie, so it all made sense. It was a great night, and they loved the movie, too. I miss the theater, but I’m thrilled to get new viewing material.
Goal-getting
Confession: I am not hydrating as I should be, so I bought a ton of Bubles (sparkling water) and am going to town on those. Too much liquid makes me feel sloshy, water or otherwise, so I’m just not into drinking.
I incorporated three strength sessions into my week. Already, I see definition in my upper arms, and I think it’s time to bring in some ab work to help out my core. All positive things.
I’m a little sad that our summer has seemed so devoid of fun outings. It’s like I’m mentally tapped out on trying to find exciting things to do, and it’s too hot to do things like go to the zoo or beach (yes, it can be too hot for the beach). Plus, we are still being cautious with everything going on. We have a few things A really wants to accomplish so we need to make them happen for him before school starts.
This week, A has a braces consultation, and he returns to Scouts after a summer hiatus. It will be good to have that normalcy. I also have a Zoom charcuterie board making class, for which I am super stoked. I can do decent boards, but I want some more education.
I’m being careful to alternate between shoes to give my ankle a chance to heal from the rubbing. It’s not hurting anymore, but it scared me half to death in the moment.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training?
Are you ever relieved when a pain turns out to be something minor and inconsequential?
Deborah Brooks says
It is challenging to get enough liquid in this time of the year. I always feel better when I do! I feel like I have spent more time w husband in the last year than I have in 25 years!
runswithpugs says
I mean, we see each other all the time. However, A is also home all the time, and so it’s hard to get quiet time to talk. He doesn’t want to miss out on anything LOL!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Im glad your ankle pain was just something minor! Its been hard to spend time outside during the day here too. This week we had several days when the real feel was in the 100s with a heat advisory. Even in the shade its just gross. But I also really want to make the most of the summer!
runswithpugs says
I feel like I just burst into a full sweat if I even think about going outside. No, thank you!
Jenny says
I actually think you’ve done a ton of fun things already this summer. I wouldn’t feel guilty about laying low at this point. And I totally agree- I go out for my runs in the morning and come home drenched in sweat- that part’s fine- but then after I shower I don’t want to step foot outside again! Yes- it’s even too hot for the beach. But that’s summer in Florida- not our best time. It’s like winter up north, our outdoor options are limited.
LOVE the “shark”cuterie platter! I definitely want to hear all about the zoom charcuterie class!!!
runswithpugs says
We have done things, but I used to be all in for the beach or spring and road trips and now… not so much. Thbbbpt.
Jessie says
It always looks to me that you’re making the most of summer! But I feel the same way that it’s hard that summer is zipping along way too fast.
Love the shark week plate š Totally understand how it can be too hot to do things like the beach or zoo.
runswithpugs says
I really don’t want to get off my couch. Ever. It’s terrible!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Rubbing is never fun. Glad it was nothing serious.
Itās been hot & humid the last few days (hotter than back home) & really hot in my moms room. She doesnāt usually mind the heat but itās been bothering even her!
I canāt pay $30 for a movie for the 2 of us. Although I did pay $14.99 to get HBO to see In the Heights.
Chocolaterunsjudy recently posted…Little bits add up: 7/12 ā 7/18 WRD
runswithpugs says
In the Heights was totally worth it. We have HBO Max, so no additional payment needed. I’m a total movie junkie though, so I usually don’t mind paying for new releases.
I hope your mom is doing well!
Wendy says
I just don’t know how you Floridians push through the heat and humidity of summer. I struggle enough up here. But yeah, hydration is key.
I want to see Black Widow but I will wait until the price comes down on streaming. Sounds like a fun evening for you!
I’m sure I’ll be having all kinds of ankle issues and fears when I get to run again. I’m already nervous about it and it’s a long way away…
runswithpugs says
I mean, we’re used to it and I probably should stop whining, but ugh. It’s hot out there.
For us, $30 was cheaper than going to the movies (with a family of three), and I’ve already watched it multiple times, so it worked out.
I am legit comparing my ankles and analyzing every bump, curve, and color, wondering if something is wrong. It’s terrible!
Kim G says
That āShark-cuterieā platter is so creative and the Zoom charcuterie board sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I love charcuterie boards but have never tried to make one from scratch.
I’ve been okay with my water intake this summer but I’ve been lacking on taking all of my vitamins and supplements. I know I need to do a better job of doing both.
runswithpugs says
I have made lots of boards, but I want more tips on things like salami roses and different ways to slice the cheese.
Darlene S Cardillo says
Haven’t been to the movie sin ages.. there’s so much to watch on TV. Yes I have HBO and Netflix…there’s more that I have tome for.
It’s hot and humid here too but not what you have.
I am terrible with drinking water (not my thing) …I barely touch it during the day.
Still you get in a lot of miles.
The ankle thing never goes away…I still cringe.
runswithpugs says
I hate that the after effects of this will last forever.
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m super paranoid about re-injuring my foot, even though it’s almost been a year since the stress fracture happened. I can’t help but wonder if the humidity plays a part. While I don’t have actual pain, there are some days when it just feels weird. My feet are pretty skinny and bony, so I’d think I’d notice any swelling (which there hasn’t been anything noticeable), but who knows? My injury was very mild in comparison to what you experienced.
runswithpugs says
I know I have problems when it’s cold and wet. My right ankle is definitely bigger than it used to be from the hardware, and then that is coupled with the heat and humidity. It is what it is.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I’m so happy that you didn’t re-injure your ankle and hope you can gradually break in those cute shoes! Your charcuterie boards are always so cute and yummy looking. Can’t wait to see what you learn in your Zoom class.
runswithpugs says
I’m so happy too! I pulled up my socks higher today, and I’m feeling better in general!
I am so excited for the charcuterie class. I’m going shopping for all the supplies tomorrow!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Ugh on the heat and humidity! I complain on the days we have it here and cannot imagine it being like that all of the time. I guess that is when I complain about Winter. š Great job on running 9 miles! Right now I have to desire to run that long. Girl, you need to hydrate. Very important and you will feel better, especially with the hot weather.
runswithpugs says
It’s soooo far. We are running long on Thursday, and instead of bumping up to 10, I’m like “Let’s just do 9 again!”
