Yup! This week, the party goes on, with Mother’s Day and my birthday. It’s just the nature of May.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.3 miles, walking
- Thighs Challenge: 34 plie squats, 34 leg swings (each side), 34 alternating lunges, 34 side leg lifts (each side), 34 inner thigh pulses (each side)
I think it’s safe to say this wasn’t a great week in the world. I really wish I didn’t have to drag myself out of bed, but I did and I tried to do it with a smile on my face.
Later in the morning, I dropped A off to his volunteer post for the 1st Annual Bocce Fest in support of the Strong Like Steve Foundation. He worked the whole day, and Mr PugRunner and I helped out by competing. Neither of us have every played bocce ball before, but it was fun anyway. All in all, I think it was a successful event.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.79 miles, walking (beach + bridge)
- Thighs Challenge: 35 plie squats, 35 leg swings (each side), 35 alternating lunges, 35 side leg lifts (each side), 35 inner thigh pulses (each side)
The weather was slightly more pleasant this week than last at the beach, so I added the bridge back in.
When I got home, I cleaned up really quickly so I could head over to my nail appointment. This time, I went for a more simple neon design.
Normally, we have karate on Monday nights, but A’s studio was moving, so we went to Tijuana Flats to help spread the word about their $5 Cinco Bash. It was a nice mother-son date.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.37 miles, running
- Core Workout: 20 in and outs, cocoons, windshield wipers, weighted Russian twists, toe taps, flutter kicks, 20 scissor kicks
- Bicep Session: 3 x 10 wide curls, 3 x 10 close-grip curls, 3 x 10 hammer curls, 3 x 10 alternating cross body curls, 3 x 10, 3 x 10 waiter curls
Tuesday was a quieter day. We started with a run.
And then the rest of the day was just work and household stuff.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.79 miles, walking
May the 4th Be With You! I wasn’t even prepared for Star Wars Day but I tried to get on board.
Leonidas had what was supposed to be his last puppy visit, but he’s STILL not 10 pounds so he will have to go back again for his rabies shot. He will also need to be fixed and have surgery on his nostrils, as they are too pinched for optimal breaking. I’m so sad for our little guy.
That evening, I modified the peanut noodle salad I made a few weeks ago to make a “Cirilian Noodle Salad” for Star Wars. I just had to color the noodles pink and purple. It was cute and delicious!
Thursday
- Cardio: 6.7 miles, running
Oh, we are getting to the weekend! Yay!
For some reason, it was just a long and busy day. I had a lot of errands to get out of the way and I just felt like we were doing a lot of running around. It was also Cinco De Mayo, so I made tacos and had a margarita at home.
Friday
- Cardio: 4.48 miles, walking
- Thighs Challenge: 37 plie squats, 37 leg swings (each side), 37 alternating lunges, 37 side leg lifts (each side), 37 inner thigh pulses (each side)
TGIF! I started the day with some miles.
And then we met my parents for lunch for an early Mother’s Day/birthday celebration. In the evening, we went to watch A’s friend play volleyball and had a quick dinner out.
Saturday
- Cardio: Spud Run 5K
- Bicep Session: 3 x 10 wide curls, 3 x 10 close-grip curls, 3 x 10 hammer curls, 3 x 10 alternating cross body curls, 3 x 10, 3 x 10 waiter curls
Time for my birthday 5k! A group of us ran the Spud Run 5K (race report to come). This is a small local race where every runner gets a bag of potatoes and a head of cabbage from local farms. It’s amazing.
After a great race and breakfast, it was time for the highlight of the day: Mom Prom! That’s right. A nearby community hosted a Mom Prom for ladies only, 21 and up. They promised music and dancing, and drinks and light bites and a good time, and they delivered!
It was so fantastic getting glammed up and dancing (and yes, I danced) and just having a great time. This needs to be an annual thing.
Goal-getting + Thoughts
Another week. I hope to get out of my emotional funk soon. I don’t like feeling helpless so I am taking charge of what I can control.
Strength training was a bit limited this week: I was short on time and energy, and that’s ok. It happens.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Anyone ever attend a Mom Prom?

How fun is a Mom Prom?! I’ve never heard of this before.
Looks like a great week of workouts. I’m sorry you’re feeling down. Hope you have a good week – Happy Birthday!
