As we enter the eight millionth day of summer, I want to share the things that keep me going, in the 100 degree temperatures and 100 percent humidity.
The Dogs
I’m going to be honest: there are a lot of dogs walking in the summer, and I am here for all of them. If a pup wants to be pet, then it will be pet. Thursday morning, I got to love on no less than seven dogs, and even though our run was terrible, it was all worth it.
Loss of Fitness
The loss of fitness is enough of a motivator to keep me getting up and moving on those hot summer mornings. Even though I’m dragging, it will all pay off in the fall. Or so I have convinced myself.
Stress Relief
Nothing relieves stress quite like running. With school back in session, new clients, and new volunteer positions, I need running more than ever, even if it means sweating my booty off.
Ankle Mobility
I think my ankle will always be a little wonky, but regular runs and walks help keep everything from stiffening up. Even if it’s sweltering outside, I would rather deal with that torture than limping and stiffness.
Long Showers and Iced Coffee
A long shower and an iced coffee just hit different after a hot, humid run. I’m not saying I want a cold shower, but I love washing my hair and getting that caffeine rush!
What keep you moving when the summer is just endlessly hot and humid?

Definitely friends to run with and marathon/races keep me training through the summer. We’ve had a pretty decent/mild summer this year in Chicago but it was very hot on our two week trip to Spain!

Friends to run with. Iced Coffee. Nature. Fitness. Races on my schedule.

Loss of fitness and the ability to race in the fall and stress relief – I’m definitely happier when I’m moving and outdoors.

Maybe I’m crazy but I just love running, and am happy to do it regardless of the weather! Of course, I’ll be even happier when the weather is cooler- but since i live in Florida, if I only ran in cooler weather I wouldn’t be doing much running at all.

For me it’s really a matter of getting out there early enough. I have to admit I usually don’t shower til later in the day bit is kind of gross but I want to enjoy time in the backyard — once I wash my hair that’s it!

If you didn’t run in summer it’s like you’d miss most of the year. I agree re: post run iced coffee. Lukewarm shower though.
