The end of this month has been something else. The good news is that I *think* I am in a groove now. I think. Let’s see how it goes.
Sunday
- Cardio: 2.33 miles, walking
Friends, they are not all winners. Sometimes, we are just tired and can’t get it done. That’s ok. We do what we can and move on.
We had to make sure we had all our last minute school supplies and what not for the week ahead. It’s happening, friends. It’s happening.
I had a breakfast planned with friends, and that was really lovely.
The rest of the day descended into madness, with a dear friend having a bit of a medical emergency. They are doing much better, but it’s been a long week and we are so grateful everything is working out.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.92 miles, running + walking
First day of switching to running. Unfortunately, it’s been a lonely week for me for running, but that’s ok.
Our days are going fairly smoothly as we navigate pickups, drop-offs and all the rest.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 1 mile, walking
This may be the most boring day, fitness-wise. Tuesday was Primary Day. My intention was to roll out of bed at 4:00AM, walk three miles, and then be to the polling location at six. When my alarm went off, I wasn’t having it. Instead, I set my Garmin after I helped get everything set up, and walked the location for a mile before the voters started arrived.
My shift went from six until eight at night, so it was a long, hard day. I was absolutely drained, physically, and mentally, when it was all over. I don’t think I’ve ever sleep so well as I did that night.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.38 miles, running + walking
I was so dead tired after Tuesday. Nothing felt good. I wanted to push for five miles, but honestly, no. No. I did some serious stretching after because I was just so stiff and sore.
It was also National Waffle Day, which was the perfect time for a boost from HoneyStinger waffles. Yum.
We’ve had really terrible storms with lots of severe lightning. It’s made for some pretty awful days, and I hope we’ve seen the last of it. And I’m also glad it cleared up in time for me to get to my board meeting. I hate being on the road in the driving rain.
Thursday
- Cardio: 3.36 miles, walking
Nothing special to report. It’s hot. I’m tired. The end.
But I got my hair done and I love it!
Friday
- Cardio: 6.21 miles, running + walking
This was very much supposed to be a long run. But it was hot, and I was tired, and I had better things to do.
Like spend time with my incredible friend, J, and have great social media conversations.
And drink wine.
And then it was time for Friday Night Lights. I went in early to help feed the band dinner. We are lucky to have dinner donated to them from various organizations before they play.
It was a fabulous game, we won, and the halftime show was five stars!
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.82 miles, walking
I was super glad to not have to run today. A walk was just enough.
Mr PugRunner and I went out for a breakfast date, and that was fabulous. We haven’t had much time together lately.
Our original plans for the day got canceled, so we were fine just sort of going with the flow and not doing too much of anything. I, especially, needed the downtime.
Goal-getting + Thoughts
I think this week should be a little more calm, and I am so here for it. I am hopeful to be able to run a little more, and to have my running buddy back for it.
And yes. I started strength training again. It’s necessary. Let’s hope I can keep it up this time.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Any crazy storms? What are you up to this week?

The end of the Summer is such a busy time!
so sorry to hear about your friends medical emergency but glad to hear that they are feeling better now.

So busy. They are home and will be ok, but it’s an ongoing process. I am so sad about all of it.
Deborah Brooks says
It definitely takes a few weeks to settle into a new school year routine. No doubt you will settle in just fine! Have a great week
runswithpugs says
I think we are mostly there.

WHAT? I missed National Waffle Day??? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Anyway… the beginning of school really is an adjustment, especially with high school. There’s just so much going on. And marching band is a big time commitment. I have one more year off before I’m back in it again!
Several years ago, when I didn’t work on Tuesdays I looked into volunteering on election day, but got discouraged when I found out you had to be there for the entire day. So, thank you for doing that! I know it’s a hard job!
runswithpugs says
LOL! You can still enjoy waffles!
Yes. It’s all day long. It’s not hard, but 15 hours is a lot. And you cannot leave. At all. I’m lucky that I had good teams on each day, so it made it tolerable.

Sorry, I had to laugh at your Thursday synopsis. #truthinblogging But you still logged a lot of miles this week.
I bet the poll work was tiring – but so important. Thank you for volunteering.
Love seeing A in his band uniform, but OMG was he roasting?
runswithpugs says
LOL. It is what it is.
Yes, they are hot. But their games are at night so that helps. And they can take off their jackets after their halftime show.
The poll working was interesting. My early location was in an area plagued by super awful canvassers. Election Day was lovely. I’ll do it again for the general in November.

It is tough to run alone. Hope this week goes better.
Your hair looks amazing!!!
runswithpugs says
It really is. I’m lonely.
Kimberly Hatting says
Great job getting out there (mostly) on the daily. We do what we can…and that’s alright 😉
runswithpugs says
You’re right. I have to remember that.

We had two of those horrible thunderstorms! Complete with 78mph wind. Ugh. I was so afraid one of the trees in the back would fall on our house. Back to school is total chaos and it’s exhausting but it will get better! I’m looking forward to our first home game Friday night!
runswithpugs says
We had a tornado warning yesterday! A big storm is brewing out in the Atlantic so we must be getting all that.
Michele L Heller says
Sometimes a down week is just what the body needs. Sounds like you squeezed in some good runs and walks in between a hectic schedule. Thank you for working the polls, I have heard that is really tough, especially in today’s environment. End of summer can be chaotic so just do the best you can.
runswithpugs says
The polls were… a lot. I will be training for the general election as well, so that will be something.

It sounds like the school year is off to a good start with a Friday night win and awesome halftime show! Here’s wishing A a fabulous year!
