Friends, the last bit of the academic year is here, and things are moving FAST. It’s like there’s this enormous checklist and we are just crossings things off one after the other! Yikes. A lot went down this week, and I’m white knuckling through!

Sunday
- Cardio: 4.87 miles, walking
Happy Easter! The boys got in from Orlando super late the night before, so we planned on a late breakfast (prepped in advance with pita chip french toast casserole and hard boiled eggs) and no rushing. That gave me plenty of time for an Easter morning walk.

We had a great day with a delicious spread of food. It was quiet and lowkey, and probably just what we needed.

Monday
- Cardio: 6.26 miles, running
- Strength: let’s not talk about it.
So today was fun. I had a fabulous run. All was well.

And then I got it in my head I should do a resistance band workout. I’ve seen so many different movements on social media, and I thought I might try to do some leg lifts and leg presses. Things were going beautifully. Until my legs were fully extended with the strongest band. Which had the audacity to slip off my feet and smack me across the face. I saw stars. I even had a nice bruise under my eye (which I managed to close just in time and is doing just fine, thank goodness). So that was great.
I promptly took to the couch for the rest of the day to mend my broken pride.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3 miles, treadmill running + walking
- Strength: upper body, 20 minutes
We had horrible rain and thunderstorms, that were actually predicted to last all day. That’s a rare thing in Florida: usually, we have rains that last an hour or so and vanish. Bad mood activated. I went to the gym with Mr PugRunner and did a hill run on the treadmill. I hated it.

We had to run to the grocery store after so Mr PugRunner suggested we get coffee and a bite at Starbucks. Instead of the drive through, we went inside, and when we ordered, they asked if we wanted to-go or dine-in. I must have made a face because the barista explained that they have brought back real plates and cups for dine-in! WHAT??? I miss coffee shops with cozy cups! The answer was dine-in, immediately!

But things improved even more when the new rug showed up! This has been in my Tik Tok shopping cart for MONTHS and Leonidas’ accident was the impetus to clicking the “buy” button! I was so nervous that it would be thin and awful, but it’s gorgeous and soft. It’s slightly thinner than a regular area rug because it’s washable, but oh how I love it. Luna loves it, too. She ran zoomies on it for about 20 minutes while I was trying to lay it down under the couch. Success!

Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.52 miles, walking
- Strength: Resistance Bands, 20 minutes
Still dreary. Still drizzly. Still living in a bad mood. But at least I got in some miles and an upper body band workout. No legs for this girl for a while.

Thursday
- Cardio: 5.44 miles, running + .82 miles, walking
- Strength: Resistance Bands, 15 minutes
Busy, busy Thursday. The weather is still just windy and misty and all over the place. Yuck. But I had things to do. I got in my run and some bands.

And then I went to the store to pick up supplies for my super long pet booking. I need to hit up Costco and the grocery store and get all my things packed as I would be moving in late in the afternoon.
It was a bittersweet evening: A had his Eagle Board of Review! It was supposed to be Wednesday, but they had to reschedule it to this night last minute, which meant I couldn’t attend. However, whether I was there or not, he earned the highest honor in Scouts! We are so freaking proud. He’ll be recognized at a general Court of Honor next week, but we will host an Eagle Court of Honor after he graduates.

Friday
- Cardio: 5.5 miles, running + walking
I love puppies but puppies are hard, even older ones. My charge had a ROUGH night, which meant I had a rough night. It happens, but she was stressed and out of sorts, so we just agreed to take a fat nap later in the day and get ourselves together. It worked.

I did my walk, we did long stroller walks… The goal was lots of fresh air and activity. And it was a successful plan for everyone, me included!
And it was prom night. A opted out. His girlfriend wasn’t able to make it and he really doesn’t love the venue where it’s been hosted lately (too loud and crowded), so he went to spend
Saturday
- Cardio: 5 miles, walking
And it’s the weekend! Fortunately, the fresh air was what we all needed and we had a much better night. Yay!

It was nice to have a bit of a calm day. I was grateful for it.
Thoughts + Goals
So much is going on. Within 30 days, we have the Eagle Court of Honor, A’s 18th birthday, the last last day of school, graduation, my birthday, Mother’s Day, and a four day trip! Yikes! It’s all exciting, but gosh it’s a lot. One day at a time, though!
As for me, I’m clearly just trying to keep from injuring myself. I will be signing up for my favorite Potato and Cabbage 10K in a few weeks.
We are also looking at some future bucket list travel, including the Daytona 500 (which is bucket list not in the “I must watch cars race in a circle” but more of a “that’s a super cool event to see.”), and the Kentucky Derby for my 50th birthday next year. Tips and suggestions are appreciated for either! It’s crazy to think how much our schedule will open up once high school is over!

Pita chip French toast casserole? I am so intrigued by that! I love both french toast casserole and pita chips! Those events sound so amazing! I think it would be a lot of fun to go to the Kentucky derby, just to see what everyone is wearing! Hopefully you’re staying injury free. We do have a lot going on but a lot to look forward to. May is always crazy!
Here you go! https://www.thepioneerwoman.com/food-cooking/a8417/blueberry-baked-french-toast/ It was all the rage in 2009. I don’t like the blueberries baked in but you can make it either way. Super easy and super delicious!
It’s so much to look forward to!
Wow, congrats to your son on achieving his Eagle Scout status! Such an accomplishment, and you must be busting with pride!
Oh, those resistance bands going rogue. Been there, done that. That and those box jumps..I caught my toe last week and almost went over the top of the box. The things we do to stay fit. Be careful, Jenn!
Our week was grey, gloomy, and damp. So it was hard to feel positive. I get you!
Oh, no thank you on box jumps. They are terrifying!
We are so proud. He needed some big encouragement at the end but he got it done and that’s all that matters!
Wow, you will be busy!!
Our week was windy windy windy and cold.
No spring flowers yet.
My May is my busy month – my birthday, Mother’s Day, trip to Naples, a 5k and two 10ks and a 5k. trip to NYBG.
the big shared birthday! I don’t even have my May race on the books yet! I’m not sure when I’ll be able to fit it in!
Congrats on your son being an Eagle Scout! That is a great achievement and honor.
Wow, you do have a lot of milestones coming up. I hope you get to soak in the moments!
It was huge. We are just so proud! He was so immersed in Scouts for years, but when band came along, his priorities shifted dramatically. His eagle project has been done since July 2025, but he just go his paperwork done now. Ah, procrastination!
Wow you all go all out on those Easter baskets! I’ve never heard of pita chip French toast-sounds interesting! I feel similar to you with so much going on and trying to keep up emotionally and physically. It’s a lot. I keep reminding myself it’s all good so just go with it!
It’s an old Pioneer Woman recipe. Basically, you use plain pita chips instead of bread in the casserole. It sits in the custard overnight and bakes in the morning with a brown sugar crumb topping. You can add blueberries or not (I prefer not). The thought process is it doesn’t get soggy like the bread does.
Wow, you really do have a lot coming up! I’m sure all of this is bittersweet, but I like how you’re looking ahead to “empty nest-hood” with some fun plans. I’m a year behind you, but I’m also thinking about how much extra time I’ll have when there’s no more school!
Glad you emerged (mostly) unscathed from the resistance band disaster. I always get so mad when I hurt myself working out- I’m trying to do something GOOD for myself, and this is what happens.
Good luck with the puppy-sitting. Sounds intense- I’ve never had one but I know puppies are hard!
I’m back to kind of wanting an RV to load up the pugs and travel the country. I know it would be a huge mistake but also it sounds so freeing.
I was so scared I had damaged my eye or broke a tooth. Fortunately, I was mostly unharmed.
Puppies are tough. Lots of energy. Lots of correction. Lots of potty breaks. She’s a sweet one, for sure, but she keeps me busy!
There are so many really good resistance band exercises but ouch about getting them in your face like that! I’m glad you’re ok! I think the only thing I’ve done is to drop a dumbbell on my foot.
You sound super busy. But with good things, at least!! So this is A’s big graduation from high school? (it’s possible I know this already?)
It did not go well for me!
This is the big high school graduation! I can’t believe it’s almost here!
Lots of big milestones coming up! Huge congrats to the new Eagle Scout! That is a huge honor 🙂
Oh man, I could totally see myself having a similar resistance band disaster! I’ve had one snap before and that is not pretty (or painfree)! Life is coming at your fast right now – hang in there and enjoy the ride. Congrats to A on Eagle Scout! That is a big accomplishment and a lot of work.
Your family has so many wonderful things to celebrate coming up. Enjoy! Congrats to A on his Eagle Scout honors – what an amazing achievement!
We are so proud of him!
