Honestly, this has been one heck of a year. And here we are, in September already. I’m thinking it’s time to set some goals for the last few months of 2023.
Get A Race On The Calendar
Technically, I’m supposed to run a Labor Day 5K, but I just haven’t signed up for it. Sigh. I can’t commit. I want to race, but I feel like I am holding off for something else? I can’t explain it, but I guess it’s saving me money on registrations.
Quiet My Negative Self-Talk
I’ll confess I haven’t been very kind to myself lately. Usually, I have decent self-esteem and self-confidence, but in the last few months, that has slipped. I really need to get back to appreciating myself was a good, productive human, and boost my own morale.
Lock Down My Training
My training is, admittedly, a mess. I want to organize my workouts, and be more intentional and productive with what I’m doing. My miles are ok, but I’m still struggling with consistent strength and stretching.
Get Back To Those Long Runs
The summer here is no joke, and between the heat, humidity, allergens, and some personal hiccups, my long runs have dwindled. I’ve been procrastinating on pushing my limits on my scheduled long run days, and that needs to stop, pronto. Will I be able to gut through my 12K next month? Yes. Do I think I can put some more effort into making it easier? Also, yes. I need to step it up.

What are your goals for September?
Jenny says
You had an incredibly busy summer- now that the school routine is established it sounds like you’re ready to focus on your running more. Having that upcoming 12K should help with motivation. I’m looking forward to a lot of things in September but haven’t set any specific goals. I guess today is the day! i”ll put some thought into it- thanks for the reminder.

I hope so. I’m bummed about not running Labor Day, but I just don’t want to.

These are great goals that nicely complement each other. Once you get back to a training plan, all will fall into place. You will get your long runs done and will feel like doing races. And you will feel better!

Fingers crossed.

These sound like very doable goals that will work together to give you back the confidence you need. You got this! A few years back, I wrote down negative thoughts that popped into my head and then wrote down positive facts to contradict them. it was helpful

I kind of can’t bear the thought of doing that right now. I’m sure I will snap out of it, but ugh.
Catrina says
I like that idea, Deborah!

This is a good time of year for some goal setting! Hopefully having a race will help you get motivated with your training.
