I’m writing these runfessions as Hurricane (now Tropical Storm) Ian works its way over us. We are VERY LUCKY at the moment. This isn’t a super wet storm for us – it’s windy which is accounting for a lot of the flooding, but we aren’t seeing heavy rainfall. Time to get runfessing.
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
I runfess…
That my #StreakingWithTheCoolKids streak may end today. I am at 486 days and at the writing of this post, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to get outside. Could I start my Garmin and walk a mile’s worth of circles in my house? Yes? But that sounds terrible. It is what it is.
I runfess…
That I started Couch to 5K. Again. My miles have been suffering terribly, and while I’m running, it’s just good productive running. J is also trying to get her training back on track after a particularly difficult year. So now, three days a week, I get up early and do a few miles on my own, then pick her up and do the C25K session. It’s been working well. I don’t hate it. That is all.
I runfess…
That I have been working through our hurricane snacks like it’s my job. I mean. Apparently it’s part of the Fight or Flight response? Instinctually, we gorge ourselves in the face of catastrophe so that if we have to run and don’t know where our next meal is coming from, we are fueled up. Who am I to argue with science?
I runfess…
That I am super behind on a lot of work. Are my deadlines flexible? A little. But it’s making me anxious. So what did I do? I bought a new planner (on clearance for $3.49). And now I’m procrastinating by filling it in.
I runfess…
That this was not the week for cross training. It’s been too wet and windy due to the storm, and I haven’t been motivated to do weights. We have been kind of off this week, with storm prep, and I have leaned into watching weather reports and lounging on the couch with my whole chest. Oh, well. Maybe rest isn’t the worst thing?
What are you runfessing today?

glad to hear that you are okay down there. It looks pretty bad for those were hit hard. Hey, why not do the couch 2 5K again if you like it? I actually coaching a couch 2 5K group in our MRTT right now and they like it too. Yes, I would walk in circles around my house to get the mile in 🙂

I see that you did your streak. Good for you.
Hope your house is ok with all that wind.
Couch25k is great. But I do think it emphasizes that you need to run for 30 minutes straight.
I think intervals are better to stay healthy. You an be a fast runner and run a 5k even if you walk. I do walk all the time and it’s ok.

I’m with Deborah–I’d do the mile around my house just to keep the streak going. You’ve come too far!
But I am so glad you were spared the worst of it. Hang in there.

I am so glad you are safe and actually did get to keep your streak alive! I would probably eat through all the storm snacks as well. Never ever want to argue with science. I love the C25K program and 100% believe that if it works for a person they should do it as much and often as they like. This whole year it feels like has been an anxious and stressful one for me – I know I also have things that need to be done and still can’t bring myself to do them. But I sure can watch tiktok videos and go down the rabbit hole! I just mentioned to Ron that I have to still fill out my FBAR and send it through before October 15th – this is a part of the US tax filing that Americans overseas have to fill out. It’s separate so at least I already sent my regular tax forms in before June 15th (our deadline – and I think I did it on the 12th LOL), but it’s just not fun. No wonder I don’t want to do it.
Hope you are hanging in there!

Glad you’re safe!

All the news of Ian (and his wrath) has brought back memo of the derecho two years ago. We didn’t have any warning to prepare, but ugh the clean-up afterwards was almost a nightmare. Glad you were spared the worst of it.

So glad you were able to stay safe and keep your streak alive! It really is quite an impressive streak!

Rest is most definitely not the worst thing (maybe the hurricane snacks are, LOL).
I have picked up journaling again this summer. I really enjoy it. Does it make me more productive? The jury’s still out on that one.
