end of year runfessions

December 30, 2022      24 Comments

In just a few days, we will ring in the new year. I think that makes it the perfect time to get these last few runfessions off my chest, so we can enter 2023 with a clean slate.

For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…

runfessions

I runfess…

That New Year’s Eve isn’t my favorite holiday. I don’t typically stay up late, and I don’t love all the tv coverage. For safety reasons, I prefer to stay home, so it’s really just another night. We will spend bit with friends, and that will be nice, but I don’t plan on being out late.

I runfess…

That I need to kick myself into gear. There’s a lot I let slide in the last few months, and I absolutely must start doing. I always feel better when I have a clearly stated to-do list, and I get to start checking things off said list. The New Year is always good for a fresh start, so I need to take advantage of it.

I runfess…

That I haven’t picked my word of 2023 yet. I plan to reveal it next week on Tuesday’s Topics, but I definitely do need to do some digging to find something that resonates.

I runfess…

That it’s been a rough year, mentally and emotionally, especially the end of it. I’m dealing with a lot of doubt and lack of confidence, and I’m struggling. It’s important to overcome these things, but the first step is building myself back. I’m ready to dig in and do that work.

I runfess…

That it’s Leonida’s first birthday and it’s so bittersweet. He’s a big boy now! Ok, he’s still the tiniest little fur ball, but he thinks he’s a tough cookie.

What are you runfessing today?

I’m not a fan of NYE celebrations either. We usually spend them quietly at home. It is a good time for reflection and yes, I have some thoughts on the year to come!

    Happy New Year!

I will admit I prefer to stay home on NYE. We usually get invited out to dinner with friends and my answer is always “we have to go early”, so we end up going at like 4:30 – 5:00…..lol
    Have a happy new year!

I do have a word. Will reveal it in a few weeks.

We usually go out for NYE. But I’ve decided to stay home and relax. I’m going out for brunch that morning and a race the next day.

Hope you have a recharged 2023.

If we were to get out to a big hotel party, I would be into it. But not just a random outing. We will hang with some friends and call it an early night.

    Aw, happy birthday to Leonida!

We are not huge NYE people either. We will stay home and might be awake at midnight — if I treat myself to a NYE Starbucks in the afternoon.

I haven’t thought of a word for 2023 yet. I runfess I couldn’t even tell you my word for 2022 without looking back at my post. :-O

I revealed my word, “Nourish” a couple weeks ago- but I’ll be going more into it soon. I also don’t like going out on New Year’s Eve- my husband will be working and I’ll stay home with the kids, which is exactly where I want to be.
I wasn’t in a great place at the end of 2022, but this year I feel better. I hope you start to feel better too, and go into 2023 feeling good. Happy New Year, and Happy Birthday to Leonida!

I’m not in the best place right now, and I want to get back on track as best I can.

It’s hard because Mr PugRunner’s birthday is January 1 so he likes to be up for midnight and start the festivities early. I just can’t do it.

My days of going out for NYE are long behind me – I’d much rather have a quiet evening in.

I haven’t settled on my word for 2023 either – I’m playing with a couple of ideas but nothing’s really grabbing me.

Wishing you a very happy new year!

I really struggled in finding a word(s) for 2022, so I went with Blissful Persistence (again) because it just felt so perfect for 2021. I’m strongly considering using that mantra again…if it ain’t broke, LOL.

I get the lack of confidence, doubt and motivation. it has truly been a year… and to be honest it’s been slowly unraveling since 2020 and frankly I’m sick of it. I know there’s been a lot on your plate and I’m certain you want to get out of the rut, but also remember to be kind to yourself. I’m super glad you are joining me for RED, it helps to have a bit of a crew behind you to get your daily movement in.

we don’t do much for NYE to be honest. I’m ok with it!! I don’t like to go out because there are just too many drunk idiots out and about!

Thanks for hosting the RED crew! The one thing I’m able to keep up with is exercise, but it’s nice to be surrounded by friendly faces, even if it’s virtual. I’m sick of it all, too. It sucks.

Happy Birthday for Leonida! Well that’s something happy.

I’m sorry you’ve been struggling with confidence — I do, too. I think most of us do.

In the past we’ve had an early dinner on NYE, but I never stay up to midnight. Or even later than usual. Bandit wouldn’t like it. 🙂

Sorry to hear you’re struggling in a negative headspace. The 4th quarter here has been very tough on all of us for reasons I can’t go into on the blog. I hope 2023 brings you a refresh. Happy Birthday to little Leo and MrPugrunner! We are team stay-at-home for NYE as well. So much nicer to be cozy and safe and home! Happy New Year!

Let’s talk about balance. Balance is an area wh Let’s talk about balance.

Balance is an area where I sometimes struggle, physically and emotionally. It can be a challenge to fit in all the things I want and all the things I need. I don’t always love doing the mundane or tedious tasks that ultimately lead to the foundations of the things I am more passionate about.

I am taking a little more time to build on the basics, and find my balance. It’s going to lead to a healthier and happier me.

How do you find your balance? Do you struggle with the basics?

Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run.

I worked through some cardio under the blue skies and in the fresh air and then came home to @runsmartofficial’s base building boot camp.

There was A LOT of focus on balance and feet and ankles, as well as ground work in the form of different planks and push-ups.

The movements were small but effective and my legs are certainly burning! It’s going to get harder as we go, but I’m excited to spend more time on my stability and form, to see if it makes me stronger and more efficient over time.

This morning, I started on a new training plan wit This morning, I started on a new training plan with @runsmartofficial. I have a goal race in May, so I am going to see if I can make some improvements along the way.

I can admit that I am built more for distance than speed, but I am taking a crack and improving my pace over the next ten weeks. Keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏻!

Anyone else starting a new training plan and cycle?
