What are the things that motivate me to run? The reasons that keep me getting up at the crack of dawn, day after day? I would love to share that with you!
The Bling
Sorry, not sorry, but medals are a huge motivator for me. As a kid who never won a trophy for anything athletic, there’s something deeply satisfying about those finisher medals. I will never stop loving them at the end of races.
The Feeling Of Clarity
Running brings me an incredible sense of peace and mental clarity. If I don’t get out for a run in the mornings as planned, I notice a definite downturn in my mood and demeanor. As a result, I look forward to getting up before the sunrise in order to give myself the best chance at a positive outlook for the day.
The Street Cred
Deep down, I love the feeling of getting to say “Oh, yeah, I ran five miles this morning” in casual conversation. It gives me a sense of pride to be able to share that amazing thing I’ve accomplished, as just another part of my regular day.
The Community
Although the pandemic certainly took its toll on a lot of wonderful communities, the running one is still my favorite. We are certainly building back, and being part of that amazing group really helps keep me going.
FOMO
Yup. Fear of missing out is a huge motivator for me. If I don’t train, then I can’t participate in the fun-looking races. I can’t earn the awesome medals and I don’t get to travel to the cool places. Yup. That’s enough for me!

Some of the same.
Not bling but definitely community.
Hope you have of these in 2023

Funny, I am not motivated by the bling. Definitely the community and the feeling of accomplishemnt

Yes to community, clarity and FOMO! No to bling. I like a good shirt or hat but the rest of it… not for me. 😉

I’m so with you on the mental clarity! Although I will occasionally push my runs to midday (in search of warmer weather), I truly feel much better when I start my day with a run – it settles me. I also love that feeling of accomplishing something for myself before the rest of the day gets going!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Definitely great points but I am at a point where I don’t get excited about the shirt or the bling.
Renée says
depending on the bling, yes! I used to absolutely love RnR races for the bling!! I agree with you on the rest too – right now I am just so so grateful for you ladies and for my parkrun community <3
