Exploring new things is one of my favorite activities, and this Spring Break, I vowed to do just that. I had some huge plans for the end of the week, when the boys headed out for some March Madness fun.
Sunday
- Cardio: 10.11 mile hike
Sunday started in the woods. A and I hit the trails for a beautiful morning of hiking. I am very grateful I don’t have to carry 30lbs on my back, but even more grateful to spend the day with him.
Afterwards, we got some lunch, and then he and his dad went to volunteer for Hunger Fight for Scouts.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.19 miles, running
I was on my own for this run, and I had to break it up into two sessions, thanks to thunderstorms. Yuck. So far, this was not the Spring Break of my dreams.
In the afternoon, I took A to work, and then stuck around to shoot some footage at the dojo.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 10.06 miles, hiking
This was A’s third 10 mile hike for his merit badge. We brought his friend along, too.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.8 miles, running + 2.17 miles, walking
I was a little nervous about running after so much hiking this week, but it turned out to be ok. As you can see, it’s a little colder out, which helps.
My brother-in-law arrived late afternoon. The guys planned to head off to their weekend together, so we had dinner and he spent the night. It was nice to catch up.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.64 miles, walking
Thursday morning started out FREEZING, so I really had to bundle up for the walk.
And then it was time for fun! I picked up J to head downtown for lunch and a trip to a new bar I wanted to try. Since it’s Spring Break, St. Augustine was slammed, but we finally scored a parking spot and went to The Ice Plant for lunch. And drinks. We shared this Asian-inspired salad and fries. Perfect.
From there, we walked to The Tipsy Duck Parlor. It’s a rubber duck themed bar, attached to a custom soap store. They serve beer, wine-based cocktails, and custom craft soda. It was beyond fabulous.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.27 miles, running + 2.21 miles, walking
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! J and I ran quickly and then parted ways to get ready for another day of fun!
J and her hubby picked me up before lunch and it was off to downtown! We dropped off their daughter and her friend at a convention, and then we went off to eat and check out the MOCA. I have never been, and their atrium exhibit, Milagros: Flutter Zone, looked so gorgeous. It wasn’t open to actually explore the space, but we did get to see it, as well as two more floors of compelling creativity.
Next up? A gorgeous book store, where I bought absolutely nothing because I was too overwhelmed.
Then we snagged the kids and headed to the Cummer Museum for their ANILA QUAYYUM AGHA: FLIGHT PATTERNS exhibit. Breathtaking. We also explored the gardens (with wine), and took in the beautiful day.
Was there dinner? Yup. Tacos and margs!
Saturday
Cardio: 4.23 miles, walking
So we were supposed to go to Alpaca Yoga, but it got postponed due to rain. Boooo! So I took myself on a drizzly walk instead. Blah.
I had dinner with my parents, and that was lovely. And then I caught up on some work. It was much needed.
Goal-getting + Thoughts
Despite the alpaca rain out, this was a fabulous week. I have one more big event on Sunday, and then it’s back to “normal.”
Good luck to everyone running the NYC Half tomorrow! I wish I was there for it!
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Do you ever feel like the hits just keep coming?
Deborah Brooks says
I love that you are doing these hikes with your son! Making memories is the best. Looks like you had a much better week
runswithpugs says
I love it. And he loves it, too! It was a good week for sure.
Jenny says
Oh darn- I wanted to heat about the alpaca yoga! But the rest of the week sounds amazing. The hikes with your son sound incredible, but sometimes it’s nice to branch out on your own without the guys.
I’m envious you had such cool temps! We got down to 59 one night…. and we haven’t had rain for ages. We need it badly.
Glad you had such a great week- I hope this coming week goes well for you.
runswithpugs says
Oh, it’s been cold here! Eesh.
I really needed some alone and girl time. Especially doing things I know they don’t love.
Debbie says
It sounds like you had a fun down week with lots of hiking and exploring new places.
runswithpugs says
It was just what my soul needed.
Wendy says
It looks like you had a great week! I can only imagine how annoying it must be when all the snowbirds descend on your town, lol. I don’t even like when I’m one of them and it’s that crowded. I wonder how they felt about that cold weather!
runswithpugs says
Tourist season is rough. When you live here, you don’t have to go out during peak times, but we made it work. It took about 30 minutes to park, but there was zero wait for lunch at a pretty trendy place, and we got seats at the bar right away for Tipsy Duck. The museums were mostly empty (the Cummer does free admission on Fridays from 4-9PM so people do take advantage but it’s not a tourist crowd).
Chocolaterunsjudy says
So glad you had a great week (despite the cold, rain, & lack of alpacas).
That’s a whole lot of activity! I’ve never been on even one 10 mile walk, much less several in as many days. I think I’d like to?

Alpacas soon!
Wait til the 15 and 20 milers! Yikes!
Melissa says
Looks like a pretty good week! Nice job getting in all that activity. Sorry it was so cold for you. But still warmer than here 🙂 We’re getting blasted with snow again 🙁 Hope you can get in some more activity/hiking with your son. That’s a lot of mileage to walk!
runswithpugs says
Definitely no snow although there was frost!
It’s a lot of mileage, but… we got it done.
Kimberly Hatting says
Seems like it was cold everywhere last week! I’m not a fan of that kind of ridiculousness (big surprise, LOL). Those hikes sound fun!
runswithpugs says
Yup. Our afternoons got warm but not humid, so that helped.
Marcia says
I’m so glad you had a great spring break week despite the rain. Can’t wait to hear about the alpaca yoga once it gets rescheduled. Great job on those mega hikes!
runswithpugs says
April 8! It’s happening!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Those hikes with your son looked like so much fun.
You should come to the NYC half next year with us.
As usual, your week was filled with so many varied activities.
Kim G says
What a jam packed week or fun and workouts! The hike looked like so much fun.
Coco says
That is quite a theme for a bar — love the photo of you on the duck stools!
It looks like a pretty fun week in between rain showers.
10 mile hikes are no joke – how long do they take?
Jessie says
What a fun week of exploring and trying out such adorable places! Love the rubber ducky bar 🙂 The food and drinks all sound incredible.
Enjoy the rest of your spring break!
