Happy April! We are now officially 25% done with 2023, and I am shook-eth. What a bizarre and unprecedented year. Despite how many strange and unappealing turns life is taking, I have no choice but to keep forging ahead. So here we go.
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.02 miles, running
I got home fairly late the night before, and had a crazy day ahead. As a result, I opted to stay back, while Mr. PugRunner headed over to help out at A’s camping/service project weekend. The morning started with a walk.
Then I threw myself into work – I had quite a bit of design work I had been sleeping on. And then in the early evening, I went to a Yelp Elite event at Falafel X Bar. I met some great new folks, and had the yummiest meal.
Monday
- Cardio: 7.3 miles, running +.43 miles, walking
And back to the grind, we go.
Mondays can be hard, but we started with a nice run.
It’s a funky week – A has “Leadership Camp” for marching band which takes up three nights after school, and then he follows that with Wind Ensemble rehearsal on Friday afternoon and most of Saturday. The dedication of these high school musicians is truly admirable.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 4.04 miles, walking
- Cross-Training: RunSmartOnline BaseSix Day 2, 30 minutes
Today was a “digital learning day.” In our district, high schools allows Juniors to take the ACT on a school day, so the rest of the student body stays home. I started the morning with a walk, while A slept in. I also completed another RunSmartOnline cross training session with lots of balance and planks.
I wanted to check out the new Vicious Biscuit in Jax Beach, so I took A with me.
It ended up being a preemptive Honor Roll celebration! Great job, kiddo! He’s been working so hard and we are so proud.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 6 miles, running + 1.98 miles, walking
On my own for today’s run. The weather has actually been fairly decent, so that’s a plus.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.53 miles, walking
- Cross-Training: RunSmartOnline BaseSix Day 2, 30 minutes
Since J wasn’t able to come out on Wednesday or Friday, she came with me for a walk on Thursday instead. And that was great, especially since it was so nice and crisp.
Fun news: a few weeks ago, I joined my friend at The Local (the cutest little boutique motel around) to shoot some retail ads for The Alligator Farm. Here’s how that came out!
Friday
- Cardio: 4.00 miles, running + 2.02 miles, walking
Another lonely run. But I put my head down and got through it.
It was going to be another long day for A, so Mr PugRunner and I went to a move (Shazam! Fury of the Gods). I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but it ended up being incredibly emotional. Also, movie theater popcorn.
In the evening, I was supposed to go to a new book club. I had read the book, annotated it, and was so excited. However, my friends and neighbors reached out about an impromptu birthday dinner, so of course, I had to pivot! We had the best time, and will all be going out again in May for our May birthdays!
Saturday
Cardio: Mission Possible 5K
Happy April Fool’s Day! This was the news from our local running store. It made me giggle. There is literally no way this would happen, but it got a few people.
I got up early, because I had a comped entry to the Mission Possible 5K in Flagler Beach. There were a ton of races in town this weekend, but this was new with an ocean view, so off I went. It was a super cute, small race and had a great time.
I treated myself to a donut and iced coffee after, and then headed home to chill out (and finish some work).
Goal-getting + Thoughts
So, it was a good week, all in all.
I do miss A – he has been really committed to so many things and he s excelling in so much. He is going to be volunteering tomorrow, while Mr PugRunner and I attempt to win a Bocce Ball tournament. Ok. We’re not going to win, but we will have fun!
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Do you play Bocce? How do you choose a race when multiple events are happening simultaneously?

Looks like a fun and busy week! I can’t believe we’re in APRIL already!

I do not approve!

Looks like a great week for you all around! Nice job on the 5K looks like a fun own
runswithpugs says
It was really a really nice and pretty race.

It sounds like a good week with some great workouts! Yes, it does seem like A is gone a lot- high school schedules can get crazy. Looking on the bright side, you and your husband get some quality time together.
Do you ever listen to podcasts on your runs? It might be a good option for when you can’t run with people- it would solve the problem of your “lonely” runs.
runswithpugs says
I don’t love podcasts. I really don’t absorb things as well aurally as I do when I read or watch. As a result I don’t listen to anything at all when I’m running. Plus, the drivers here are all crazy – I”ve almost been hit twice in the last week.
Susanne says
Looks like you had a good week and you did a good job with the walking and running. And a race too! How fun to be in that commercial photoshoot, you look great!
runswithpugs says
Thank you! It was something different!
Debbie says
It sounds like you had a busy week with lots of fun stuff going on. Congrats to A on all of his accomplishments!
runswithpugs says
It was a lot of fun!
Melissa says
What a fun week – nice job with the workouts and race! Small races can be so much fun. Congrats to your son – hooray for honor role!
runswithpugs says
He’s crushing it!
Coco says
It is hard to believe 2023 is 1/4 over, but I say good riddance to the year so far. 😉
It sounds like A is very busy — will it just get busier as the school year ends?
What a fun photo shoot – you look great!

Absolute garbage year!
It’s going to get a lot busier: he’s got a concert this week, a concert/field trip next week, a weekend of much delivery, another week of camping/birthday/volunteering, ANOTHER concert at states. He was also just selected as co-section leader of the clarinets for marching band, and he will start mini camp for that in early May. And then his huge trip to Phimont. On top of school and his job. I’m so proud but so tired.
Wendy says
You are so busy, so it makes sense that your son is as well! It’s amazing all that you squeeze in! Glad to see that you were able to get all your runs in. Congrats on your race today!
runswithpugs says
He loves to be busy. That boy is an extrovert through and through.
Darlene S Cardillo says
what a busy week but a lot of fun things in addition to fitness-related ones.
I hate to run alone too but it’s the only way sometimes.
I have a good friend in Flagler Beach. Congrats on a good race. I can’t wait to race again.
runswithpugs says
Flagler Beach is so pretty! You’ll be racing again soon! I know it!

Sounds like a busy, but really fun, week. Great job with all the pivoting!

Wow such a busy week – looks like a lot of fun was had! That’s a great shot of you in the ad!
I still cannot fully comprehend that 1/4 of the year has already passed – I need time to slow down!
Congrats on your 5K 🙂

When I read “we are 25% through 2023” I gasped. It’s like mentally I knew that but emotionally I wasn’t ready to see that written down, lol.
Another busy week for you but it looks like you packed a lot of fun into it!
Kimberly Hatting says
I well remember those busy days with kids! Great job staying on-task with all your workouts. The Saturday race sounds fun 😉
