After ten days, the boys are back! Did I enjoy the alone time? Yes. Am I glad to have them back? Also, yes.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.39 miles, walking
Well, this was it. The last day on my own. The boys texted me super early to say they were en route.
I walked.
And then I spent the day grocery shopping, doing laundry and tidying up. They arrived at the airport at around 8, had a huge delay as there was no gate ready for them, and then we had another huge delay coming home due to a bad accident on the highway. We didn’t get home until after 11 (long day for me, but even longer for them).
I’ll just leave you with this photo: isn’t he a natural at this mountain thing? A said he had the best time, and loved almost every second of it. Next up, he would like to go to Sea Base, another BSA High Adventure.
Monday
Cardio: 5 miles, running + .6 miles, walking
Somehow, I managed to drag myself out of bed to run. It was terrible, and even worse because J opted to sleep in.
From there, I treated myself to a bit of a spa day, where I finally got a pedicure along with my nails. I’ve been funny about anyone touching my feet a) because of my nerve damage, and b) because I hear so many horror stories about infections and other gross things. I trust my nail artist, however, and she did an awesome job.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.02 miles, walking
So now the thunderstorms are really in full swing. The lightning was so bad I had to hit up the gym treadmill. Yuck. As soon as I had a break in the weather, I bolted, just to get a mile out on the actual road.
In the evening, I went to play Bunco with some old PTSO friends. It was my first time and it was a fabulous night.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 2 miles, running + 3.8 miles, walking
I had to do this workout in two parts. I ran into a horrible storm, and had to duck under the awning of our community center until the lightning moved far enough away for me to get home safely. But I did go out after the rain cleared up to walk a bit. Meh.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.84 miles, walking
I got a little misted on, but that was ok.
Then Mr. PugRunner and I went to get an oil change and out for a lunch date. The oil change portion was awful. The date was lovely.
Friday
- Cardio: SUP Bridge the Gap 5K + 3.82 miles, walking
Friday was a big day. Once again, it was raining in the morning, so no J.
Mr PugRunner was taking me for part of my birthday gift: to see the King Tut Immersive Experience. I don’t know about you, but when I was growing up, I was OBSESSED with archeology and King Tut. Indian Jones was my hero. Howard Carter was a legend. This experience did NOT disappoint. We went to see the Van Gogh iteration in the same space, and while that was beautiful, I found this so much more engaging and interactive. Loved it.
Afterwards, we grabbed pizza, and then headed to the Riverside Arts Market and Shared Use Path, because I had signed up for another night race! It was an inaugural event, and I was excited to try it. Of course, it stormed AGAIN. But I got some great photos and had a blast.
Another late night.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.04 miles, walking
Even though Friday was a higher mileage day, I had to walk out some of my kinks and aches.
I had to get cleaned up for a Yelp Event, held in an outdoor Biergarten. Florida had other plans: we had a monsoon. Our servers and chefs were absolutely incredible, even though they (and we) got soaked. It was quite an adventure.
Thoughts + Goals
Lately, I’m feeling a weird combo of exhausted and motivated. The heat makes everything hard, but I also feel like my running is in a decent place. I like running these littler races and having full experiences with them.
The house is a lot louder this week, but that’s ok. I’m super glad everyone had a great time. The pugs were a little confused about everything, but that’s ok, too. They will figure it all out.
I’ve wanted to try the track nights at the high school, but the weather has made that impossible, so I am just back to my own thing, trying to avoid the bad weather as best I can. Ah, summer.
What’s next? Some work. Another ParkRun. Maybe a 4th of July race? Stay tuned!
How was your week?
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

Goodness, what awful weather! We’ve had storms and very heavy rain and all sorts here, also very humid in a generally damp country.
I’ve been home alone this weekend as my husband has taken his mum away for a respite trip (she’s his dad’s carer). I had loads of plans then one of the locks on our front door broke and we are waiting for a new one on Monday, so I’m trapped in the house!! Friends brought me milk yesterday and another one is coming round with iced coffees this afternoon and to be honest I woke at 6 and it already felt too yucky to run!
runswithpugs says
Ironically, our front door broke, too! It was the day after they got home! We got it fixed, but wha ta strange parallel. Glad you had friends who could help you out!

Your boys sound like they had a fab time and it’s always nice to have some time to yourself. Way to keep up your activity this week. Love the fun nails! I am also a frequent flier at my nail salon but I have nowhere near the cool nails that you do!
runswithpugs says
I guess I feel like if someone is doing them for me, I want them to be something I could never do myself. Plus, my artist is always up for some fun art. I often show her a bunch of inspiration pics and she chooses what to do.

Short races can be fun & hard at the same time!
Sorry about the rain & thunderstorms. I still have vivid memories of the thunderstorm I got caught in while running near the ocean in Miami. It was so frightening.
I hear you on the stress. Some days I’m motivated & other days I’m not & that’s ok.

I bet that storm is scary. Miami can have some doozies.

I know what you mean with alone time. Sometimes you just need it.
I’m shy about track nights. I feel too low.
Short races are always fun. You don’t have to worry that you can’t finish.
I plan on a short July 4th race but after that I need start thinking about the long runs.
And I really need a manicure. Just have to find time.
runswithpugs says
I love alone time. I really do. I’m glad they’re home but things are very loud lol.
I have to register for my 4th of July race.

I thought Florida always gets a little rain daily in the summer? Or is what you are having something out of the ordinary? I know I wouldn’t be a fan of the heat and humidity. We get it here and I’m sure it’s tame compared to yours.
You must be so proud of your son–what an amazing adventure he got to go on with his dad! Enjoy him–the time goes so fast!
runswithpugs says
Normally, we get an hour, maybe two, in the afternoon. This is just all-day, gray, soaking rain, with strong winds, thunder and lightning. It’s very atypical.
We are so proud of him. He came home and is basically a man now, lol!
Coco says
LOL, it is nice to have the house to yourself for a few days, but 10 days is a long time, so of course you were glad to have your boys home!
I also was intrigued by King Tut — that event looks really cool. I will have to watch for it in D.C.
It’s great your running is going so well!
runswithpugs says
I highly recommend King Tut I thought it was incredible
San says
Humidity and rain seems to be a theme for so many runners right now (I am sorry)… we had such a pleasant and mild start to the summer here in CA, very unusual, but I’ll take it 🙂
runswithpugs says
It’s pretty terrible, with microbursts and other not so fun side effects.

Looks like that Yelp event could’ve used a Plan B! Yikes. Glad the boys had fun and yay for you to have a bit of quiet time. Your nails are lovely.

They did their best, but it was wild!

We’ve been dealing with lots of humidity and random thunderstorms so I keep telling my dad we are getting the Florida experience, lol.
Michelle says
Nice to have alone time and I’m sure you’re also happy to have them home!
It looks like you’ve had some wild weather lately – especially that Yelp event :0 Awesome job getting your miles in despite the weather.
Debbie says
I hear you, alone time can be nice, but after a while… I’m glad your guys both had great trips.
Ugh on the storms. Mother Nature can be so rude!

On the Ladies Ride this past week I was riding with a lady who is a scout leader (for the girls!). She mentioned all of the scouting adventures like Sea Base. So much fun and full of learning great skills! She will be going to Philmont in the fall when the kids are gone! That’s so cool your son and husband got to experience that. And I get it, King Tut is very cool too!!

The BSA high adventure trips are amazing! Our son did all of them & was rewarded with a larger than life patch as a result. Looks like you had an exciting week…King Tut sounds fab!

Yes, it has been a VERY stormy summer so far (I think that means we’ll have fewer hurricanes- or is that just a myth?) It makes it really hard to plan things, especially nighttime activities.
Glad A had such a good time! It must have been amazing for him to get out of Florida and into the mountains. And I’m sure it’s great to have them home again. Some alone time is nice, but ten days is a long time!
runswithpugs says
He loved the snow and the mountains. He’s a nature boy through and through.
Renée says
ah so glad the boys are back but I can imagine the house is louder again. What a bummer about all the weather situations, geez. You managed it all well though! hooray on another night race too! I’m late catching up with everyone so I hope by now you are having a better summer week this week! So excited you are going to parkrun again soon!

It’s so loud. And now there’s a new tv, so it’s even worse!
It’s stupid hot this week. Too hot to even eat.

What a wonderful week of fun new experiences! Night races would be hard for me, but they still look fun. What’s up with the weather in sunny Florida, eh? 🙂
