You know it’s that time of the month! When we confess, or runfess, all our deepest, darkest thoughts! Let’s do it!
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
I runfess…
That fitness feels much harder this summer. I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m much more tired and struggling more with motivation. Usually, I’m the person who pops right out of bed and is super happy to get moving, but now I want to hit snooze 20 times and ignore the woke up call. Maybe it’s the heat.
I runfess…
That I had to cancel my most recent follow up appointment. It was supposed to be about how my new meds were working out. I was super hopeful to be further along in that process, but I have not been able to take the leap. The one day I took it left my feeling so miserably ill and I don’t want to spend two weeks of summer break sick with migraines and nausea.
I runfess…
That perimenopause is such a buzzkill. I know some of my fatigue and mood can be attributed to the changes in my hormones and body, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it (or accept it). What am I going to do about it? Well, never give up and never surrender, for one thing.
I runfess…
That I thought I would like ParkRun, but that it might be a one and done for me. However, I’m planning on going back this weekend, and I’m bummed that I won’t be able to make the next one. I’m so easily sucked in LOL.
I runfess…
That I don’t hate night races quite as much as I used to. Mind you, I don’t love them and my body objects a little harder than usual, but they’re not simply awful, either. It’s been nice to mix things up, especially in summer when it stays lighter later.
What do you have to runfess this month?

Sorry to hear the meds come with some not-so-nice side effects 🙁 I hope you’re able to get them adjusted.
I’ve tried a couple of night races in summers past – they definitely offer some relief from the heat but my body clock always felt so out of whack.

Too bad about the meds. I agree. No one wants to feel sick all the time. ESP. In the summer. I hope you find a better solution.
Night races are great because it’s cooler but hard to fuel. Even running after work is hard for me. I’m hungry. But then it means getting up so early to run. Womp. Womp.
runswithpugs says
It’s not even that much cooler, honestly. When you figure the sun doesn’t set until 8:30, and a race starts at 6:30/7… it’s still just nasty. At least, in the early morning, the sun hasn’t had time to bake everything yet.
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I hope you’ll find a better solution but one day is not enough to know if the treatment will work. It doesn’t mean your whole summer will be ruined. Can you discuss your concerns with the physician or nurse line for your insurance company?
I enjoy night races but then I can never sleep afterwards!
runswithpugs says
Oh, you are 100% correct. It wasn’t a totally fair shake, but when I felt so awful, and was looking at a schedule of time in the car, a few events, a weekend with a good friend and things where I needed or wanted to be 100% on, I just couldn’t do it. I haven’t had a ton of stuff to look forward to, and the idea of dimming the sparkle of those things with migraines, nausea and vomiting was just awful. I haven’t given up. Promise.

I think it’s pretty common to need to tweak the meds for a bit before finding the perfect mix. I hope the process gives you good results soon. This morning girl finds night races challenging as well, but fun too!

I think I mentioned a while back that maybe you could start with a lower dose and ease onto the meds? They can be somewhat activating and so to avoid that, I have my patients start with even a 1/4 pill for a few days, then a 1/2 pill, until going up to the full dose. It works really well and I don’t get a lot of patients wanting to quit the meds.
I’m definitely not a night person but I think a night race would be a fun way to mix it up!
runswithpugs says
You did and that’s on my radar. It’s a little overwhelming, and I have to get myself psyched up to make that plunge, you know? It’s the joy of being an overthinker.
Coco says
I would really struggle with an evening race!
I hope you figure out your medication. Maybe you should have an appointment to figure out how to adjust?
I’m struggling this summer too, but at least I’m not throwing in the towel. 😉

I’ve done a few night races, one is coming up next weekend (which I think I’m gonna have to take a pass this year). I think they’re fun!
