We are absolutely experiencing a heat weave here, and it’s not ok. Record high temperatures are absolutely bringing me down, and I am already dreaming of winter. How did we get through it? Let’s talk about it.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.82 miles, walking
I was grateful to have nothing on the calendar for Sunday. I walked.
And then we filled the little pool for the pugs. They had mixed feelings about it.
My parents came over for some grill time to celebrate my mom’s birthday and Father’s Day. It was nice to see them and have a casual, relaxing day.
And then my big project of the day was building the new console table for Mr. PugRunner’s new tv. Our old one was fine but it was probably about 10 years old and he wanted to upgrade. Happy Father’s Day, sir.
Monday
- Cardio: 5 miles, running + 2.07 miles, walking
No J again today. It was boring, but I got through.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 4 miles, walking
I aimed for a little bit of extra sleep and wasn’t mad that I had all day to really lean in and get a bunch of things checked off my to-do list.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 7.25 miles, running + walking
It’s so hooooot. It was literally almost 80 degrees at 6AM. I tried to run, but it didn’t last. I felt like I was one fire.
In the afternoon, our local handyman came over to hang the new tv. He’s a great guy and perfect for those projects I’m not comfortable doing myself. And so now we have a new look to the family room, and I get to reorganize and purge all the things we had to move around to make room.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.59 miles, walking
I tried really hard to get out early to beat the heat. Ugh. It’s suffocating.
We had a lunch date at a local pizza place, where I got to try pickle pizza, courtesy of Yelp. It was pretty yummy.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.18, running + 2.88, walking
It finally felt like a semi normal day, and J and I were able to hit some running goals. It’s about time. Also, since it was June 30, I completed my June Run Streak. Yay!
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.69 miles, walking
And it’s Saturday again. Friends, I slept so freaking late. And I paid for it.
I chose to use the rest of the day for laundry and work. We had dinner plans with friends, and I just want the upcoming holiday weekend to be free of all deadlines and work.
Thoughts + Goals
When it’s this hot, I admit that I shut right down. I wanted to attend ParkRun on Saturday, but I desperately needed and wanted to sleep. I’m not hungry. I’m not interested in doing much of anything. Boo on me. I’m grateful we aren’t dealing with bad air quality, but record high temps and heat indices are really tough to navigate as well.
But I’m powering through as best I can. Yes, I’m giving myself grace if I want to step out of things, but honestly, being lazy is just where my head is at.
Coming up this week? We have the Celebration 5K on Tuesday, a fun get together with our favorite people, and then some super fun plans at the end of the week. I cannot wait to share!
How was your week? Are you dealing with difficult weather?
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

We segued right from the poor air quality into a heat wave, lol. Now it’s raining, which we so desperately need! Yep, it’s summer! I’m glad to see you are getting out there. I do know how hard it is to get motivated when it’s so humid. Are you done with your streak now?
runswithpugs says
Technically, the streak is over, but I am going to keep going. It’s not hard to get one mile a day, so it’s a good motivator.
Jessie says
That is SO hot. 80 at 6 am! Man…I can see why you kinda shut down!
The pickle pizza looks yummy! The pugs are so cute in their pool 🙂 My dogs aren’t really swimmers…which is surprising because a lot of vizslas love the water.
runswithpugs says
I think the pugs would like the pool better with some toys, but we just weren’t prepared for all that. I love seeing pups swimming or enjoying water play – I just don’t seem to have luck with having pups who tolerate the water.
Deborah Brooks says
the heat is very draining! I agree it’s not as much fun to be out there without friends. You were out there everyday so kudos to you for getting it done. Pickle pizza sounds amazing
runswithpugs says
I really liked it. But yeah, it was super hard getting out there.
Darlene S Cardillo says
Pickle pizza? How was it?
I’d rather have heat than smoke.
Today we have rain… glad it’s rest day.
4 mile run race on the 4th.
runswithpugs says
It was pretty good!
Yeah, I don’t want any part of the smoke! Stay safe.
Liz Dexter says
That’s so hot, I’m sorry. Hope you can find some cool. I did a load of housework in the heat last Sunday (we have been getting to around 80 but that’s the hottest it gets) arghhh.
runswithpugs says
80 sounds straight up cool!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I get it – that heat is tiring and is a motivation buzzkill! I had some pickle bread once – it was delicious! I don’t remember if it had red sauce on it or not, but I should look up a recipe for that. A very interesting twist! The smoke in our area was pretty bad. It gave me a headache for days!
runswithpugs says
Pickle bread sounds amazing! I love that idea! Stay safe out there!
San says
If it’s hot, I’m not interested in doing much of anything. <– I feel this so hard. We've been having a heat wave over the weekend and I am laying low.
Good for you for getting done what you've gotten done! Can I jump into that kiddie pool with your dogs?
runswithpugs says
The pugs would love the attention!
Kimberly Hatting says
Nice job on the streak! Our weather was all over the map last week…rain, wind, cold, heat, humidity…and did I mention wind? Thankfully, our air quality hasn’t been compromised too much, so I’ve been outside everyday (as per usual). No complaints 😉
runswithpugs says
Yup. I’m very happy to keep getting outside, no matter how awful it is.
Marcia says
Congrats on completing the run streak! Yes summer arrived here with a vengeance as well. So so humid and add in the poor air quality and I could not spend much time outdoors, which really sucks since it’s the prime of summer.
runswithpugs says
It’s really so terrible.
Melissa says
Nice job getting out there even with the heat wave. A 7+ miler in heat is serious work – nice job. I love the pups in the pool – they’re so cute!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I don’t deal well with hear, either. I lose my appetite. My condolences. You still got a LOT done, as always. Nice job! Have fun tomorrow.

I would be suffering in that kind of heat/ humidity as well. I have been to Florida in the Summer and my words when I left were “Never again”. So, yeah. I hear you. Do what you can, Jenn, it’s enough!
pickle pizza though?!????
Debbie says
I hate high heat and humidity so I feel for you. Luckily, our temps don’t normally get a high as yours, but the humidity can sometimes be brutal.
I can’t wait to hear what your super fun plans are – hopefully, you’re already in the midst of them!
