While September may be knocking at the door, it is decidedly not anywhere close to fall in Florida. I want the pumpkins and the warm cider and all the fall festivities, but it’s still just hot and muggy. So we work with what we have, you know?
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.5 miles, walking
- Strength: Daily Combo (20 lunges, squats, pushups, 30 crunches, :45 plank)
Your girl walked, and then did not move from the couch.
I worked. I watched the new Flash movie (I liked exactly four scenes from it, and will never watch it again), followed by both Michael Keaton Batman movies. And then I went to bed. It was fantastic.
Monday
- Cardio: 4 miles, running + 3.31 miles, walking
- Strength: Daily Combo (20 lunges, squats, pushups, 30 crunches, :45 plank), Glutes + Hamstring Workout
Alright, Monday. Let’s do this. We had a storm bearing down on us, and so much to do. So of course, we started with a run and a workout.
And then we settled into the start of a plan for the week. We finally got notice that school would be closed on Wednesday, so we started shuffling the things around.
Most importantly, we got my emotional support snacks. I will probably never open that can of Spaghetti’os, but I need to know it’s there. The Swiss Rolls are in the freezer.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.05 miles, walking
- Strength: Daily Combo (20 lunges, squats, pushups, 30 crunches, :45 plank), Biceps + Chest Workout
The weather edged to humid and buggy, making this walk less than pleasant. I had to keep swatting gnats away.
There were no extracurriculars since school was closing, but Mr. PugRunner and I did have a Yelp event at Vicious Biscuit: it was breakfast for dinner!
Wednesday
- Cardio: 3.66 miles, walking + running
- Strength: Daily Combo (20 lunges, squats, pushups, 30 crunches, :45 plank)
Welcome to Hurricane Idalia. I didn’t head out right away because of rain and then a tornado watch. However, that moved quickly to a strong breeze and just a little sprinkle, so I did what I could.
And then we just watched the weather channel for the rest of the day. We were very fortunate in that it didn’t damage our area (except one neighbor who lost most of their fence). Our hearts are with those who did bear the brunt of the storm.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.41 miles, walking
- Strength: Daily Combo (20 lunges, squats, pushups, 30 crunches, :45 plank)
And then right back to it. Everything opened back up and the kids went back to school.
Today was just off. It kind of felt like Monday, but knowing a three day weekend was coming up made it that much more bizarre. All we can do is keep moving.
Friday
- Cardio: 4.2 miles, running + 3.8 miles, walking
- Strength: rest
It was actually finally cool and breezy! Yay! The run felt good, the walk felt better, and I was ready for Friday!
I absolutely pushed it with work, trying to take care of all my Monday things so I could enjoy the weekend. And it worked because I made a big dent in everything.
In the evening, I volunteered to work concessions for the band, which was quite an operation. It was senior night, so I missed the halftime show so the volunteers who were senior parents could watch. It’s early so we will have more chances to catch the show. They sounded amazing, and they looked great in their new uniforms!
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.8 miles, walking
- Strength: Daily Combo (20 lunges, squats, pushups, 30 crunches, :45 plank)
Happy Saturday!
So my foot was killing me on Friday, but feeling a little better today.
It’s a good thing, because today was Jacksonville Taco & Tequila Festival Day!
Meghan came into town just for the occasion and we had a blast!
Thoughts + Goals
As the weeks continue towards the end of the year, I do have some more goals. I had to take a few rest days with my strength because my toes are hurting, but rest isn’t quitting or failure.
I’ve done well with my reading and it is my goal to make it to either my local book club or feminist book club soon.
From there, it’s just staying caught up with work, and with A’s activities. It’s not always easy, but we have a decent system in place. And of course, we are planning more through the holidays. We have some travel, some events, and some shows to look forward to, which makes me so happy.
How was your week? Any goals coming up?

I’m so glad you were spared by Idalia. Amazing that you were able to get all your runs in!
Emotional support snacks, lol
runswithpugs says
Yeah, the weather was so mild for us. I’m grateful.
When you get hit by a big one and you lose power for weeks, it’s always comforting to have those canned goods!
Coco says
I’m glad Idalia spared you even though she disrupted your routine. LOL on your emotional support snacks. I’m a HoHos girl though.
runswithpugs says
HoHo’s are tasty too!
Deborah Brooks says
So glad you were spared the brunt of Idalia. Looks like you all are off to a pretty good start to the school year despite that little hiccup! I have not seen Spaghettios in decades! I loved those ho ho’s as a kid
runswithpugs says
LOL! I never eat them and I end up donating them to the local food bank. But they are there if I need them.
Jenny says
Glad you survived Idalia intact! Even if the storm doesn’t hit you directly, it’s a big production to get prepared, and have everything closed, etc. It is funny how, when there’s a storm coming, everyone runs out to the store to buy junk food!
Taking days off of strength is PERFECTLY FINE. Your body needs the rest, that’s when it’s actually getting stronger. You are doing amazing with it, so just keep on.
runswithpugs says
Well, the reality is that the junk food is shelf-stable and doesn’t need to be cooked. Also, Swiss rolls help my stress way better than, say, a stalk of celery LOL!
Melissa says
THank goodness the hurricane didn’t hurt you guys too much. I love the idea of emotional support snacks ha! Yay for 3 day weekend! You had an active week and a reminder – I don’t do any strength and you always inspire me . If I did just one day I’d be happy!
runswithpugs says
It’s a good idea to do it. I just hate it.
Emotional support snacks definitely help get through the storm days.

Mmmmm. Breakfast for dinner!
Rest is never failure, in today’s world it’s a moral imperative!
I don’t think I’ve e er actually eaten spaghettios . . . whatever floats your boat. Luckily no boats floating past you. 🙂
We’re supposed to be in the low 90s the next few days.

I’m sure I said it last year when I saw your pictures, but I want to go to the Taco & Tequila Festival!
So glad that you faired well with the hurricane in your area.

So glad to hear that you weren’t really impacted by Idalia. Some of the footage on TV looks gnarly and I feel so bad for the people affected.
It sounds like you had a pretty solid workout week with a couple of fun things sprinkled in. 🙂
It’s not yet fall here in NorCal either, but we did get some cooler temps and the first rain this weekend (strange!) and I am taking it as a taste of what’s to come.
Susanne says
I’m so glad to hear Idalia didn’t treat you bad. It’s always scary with the storms you have down there.
Looks like a good week with your cardio! And I can totally relate to the toe problem. The taco & tequila festival sounds like fun!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Glad to hear you were spared from the hurricane.
I cannot keep comfort foods in the house we will eat them… That pint on Hagen Daaz – GONE in one sitting.
Glad the foot is improving…
Tacos & Tequila – how fun is that?
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Hooray for new band uniforms! That is great that you worked concessions so the senior parents could enjoy the show. That’s very important!
Glad the storm wasn’t bad in your area. I think your emergency planning foods were perfect. They are my favorites too 🙂
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m a huge fan of breakfast for dinner, or lunch if we’ve just finished a hot morning bike ride –>yesterday, LOL. Glad you were spared any damage from the storms.
