In a disappointing (and predictable) turn of events, our cool days have vanished in favor of higher temps and humidity. l am not pleased. Everything is just slightly easier when you’re not a hot, sweaty mess. But here we are. I’m hopeful we’ll see things cool down again next week. If it could stay that way through the rest of winter, that would be great.
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.29 miles, walking
No one rushed out of bed in the morning. A didn’t get home until 2AM and we didn’t get to bed until 3. Yuck. When I did get up, I walked.
And then we had the most lowkey day ever. Nothing got done. We were all just drained.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.81 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
Monday was time to get back at it. Sigh.
The run was good. I am on week five of Couch to 5K, and it’s all feeling pretty solid at this point with longer runs. I’m at the point where I need to decide to continue with the program or switch to regular intervals.
I also spent some time in the Y, working on my arms. These are always the harder days for me. I am doing really well on any pull downs and push downs, but things like shoulder presses and chest flys are still a challenge.
There was also a big work meeting, that ended up going very well, and for that I was grateful.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.41 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 45 minutes
Things were starting to warm up, and since I have been struggling with getting out of bed, I paid the price of being hot.
At the gym, things were easier. Leg days are great days, and I rewarded myself by increasing weight on my leg extension, calf raises, and squats.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 7.27 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
Again, a run that felt good. I like that.
I wanted out of the Y really badly on Wednesday. To make up for it, I swapped out some exercises, and tried to make things more interesting. Flexibility is certainly super helpful to keep me in the game.
Thursday
- Cardio: 3.12 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 45 minutes
So I went to work out first, and was happy that almost no one else was in the gym. It’s nice to be able to just bang out the routine without waiting. From there, I went for my walk. I wasn’t paying a ton of attention, which is why I was absolutely startled by this guy.
Is it genius decorating? Yes. Did I almost trip over my own feet when I saw it? Also, yes. Well done, random house. Well done.
Mr PugRunner went to a concert with a friend that night and I chilled at home until I had to pick up A from work. Sometimes, it’s nice to just have a quiet evening at home.
Friday
- Cardio: 6.84 miles, running + walking
TGIF! As per usual, I take a rest from the gym on Fridays (and weekends). The run was good though, even if it was a little humid.
After a meeting, I turned my attention to working and getting ready for a Ladies’ Night at a local farm. It was a rescheduled event so it was a little more chill that originally expected, but we had fun. There were vendors for shopping, and I was able to knock out some holiday gifts. Everyone got an appetizer from the food truck as part of their entry ticket, and all three of us won raffle prizes! Amazing!
We chatted, toasted s’mores over the fire, and my friends both got mini chair massages (I passed on that, but did buy myself a gua she stone from the massage therapist for my skin care). It was a good night.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3 miles, walking
Let’s do this thing! Again, we slept in a bit since A was out at the away football game and didn’t get home until late. I walked.
Then I knocked out a lot of work. A had a performance today (not a competition but a critical assessment), so I dashed over to watch his show. They received straight superiors and absolutely crushed it!
Then I sped back home as fast as I could to get into my Halloween costume for the Headless Bangers Ball. It’s quickly becoming a holiday tradition.
Thoughts + Goals
So now what?
Halloween is Tuesday, and then it’s November. We are celebrating our 17th anniversary on Saturday, and I can’t believe it.
The goal is to run two 5Ks in November, and I’d love at least one more race before the end of the year. We will see what we can do.
After discussing our limited Halloween activities, we booked some fun outings for the holiday season. I’m excited for a Candlelight concert, a Nights of Lights boat tour, and some other things.
We are also so excited for A’s final competition of the season. This year, things felt super short, but he is also looking forward to some off-campus jazz performances, indoor winds, and what’s next for wind ensemble. Oh, he also earned honor roll for his first quarter of sophomore year, which was amazing. He’s a rockstar.
This week, I plan to be productive as I can, as the following week is STUFFED with events. I have a work event and/or meeting almost every night of the week. I’m excited about it all, but it’s a lot.
How was your week in training? Any Halloween parties? What’s next for you?

What a fun, busy week! Seems like you’re making the best of the continued warm weather and getting it done! I’m glad to see you’re still working on strength training–consistency will pay off!
runswithpugs says
Day 22! I’m pretty dedicated at this point. I want another trainer session, but it will have to wait until right before or right after Thanksgiving.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
We have opposite schedules. Friday and weekend is my gym time. Too busy during the week.
Sorry about your weather. You’ll be happy once I report snow and sun zero temps.
Our weather is crazy. 80 one day and 40 the next. Rain today and tomorrow. Ugh.
runswithpugs says
I would love some snow.
Our Y is closed on Sundays (I don’t know if that’s just us or an across the board thing), and our Saturdays are so busy that I just don’t feel like going in. I’d love to manage it, but maybe when marching is over.
Coco says
It sounds like a great week.
I find weeks with evening activities exhausting. I miss my evening chill time1
I am sure you will have fun on Halloween.
Happy Anniversary!
runswithpugs says
I love evening chill time but no one else wants to host things at noon so I can be in bed at a reasonable hour. Rude.
Jenny says
Yeah, the heat was back here as well- but it wasn’t as bad as it was a couple weeks ago. I’m ready for the next cool down!
Sounds like you had a really great week. Nice work at the gym (I know, it’s not as much fun as running) and I love your costumes. I’m a little sad that October is ending, but November will be a fun and busy month for us as well.
Enjoy your Halloween!
runswithpugs says
Happy Halloween to you as well! We had such fun dressing up!
Deborah Brooks says
You had a fun and busy week! I think we all had a taste of summer again this week. Always seems weird this time of year. Have a fun Halloween and anniversary celebration
runswithpugs says
I am excited for our anniversary. We just talked about doing an experience rather than getting gifts, and now we have to decide on what we do.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
So happy you had such an amazing outing with friends.
Sorry about the return of warmer weather. It won’t last forever.
The first half of November, we’ll, about 3/4 of it, are going to be busy. Then I can catch my breath.
Chocolaterunsjudy recently posted…The Report is in: 10/23 – 29 WRD
runswithpugs says
Every time I think I can catch my breath… nope. Something pops up. But it’s ok. I thrive in this kind of chaos.
Kimberly Hatting says
Looks like another week full of activity 😉 They keep us young, right? This is my first weekend, in a long time, with nothing on the calendar (other than the full moon run), so I’ve been enjoying some much-needed chill time. Enjoy your Halloween!
runswithpugs says
I feel like I have a day like that coming up soon. But I don’t remember when LOL.
Susanne says
That looks like a great week, despite the hot weather coming back. And well done with the strength work. Shoulders and chest is hard – I still really struggle with all shoulder exercises, especially lateral raise. But when I look on social media it seems to be very common. It’s just to keep at it, I guess! My week was mostly walking and PT and settling in back in Ireland. Can’t wait to get back to the gym!
Your week of events sounds exhausting but I hope you’ll have fun.
runswithpugs says
I have a “hell week” of events coming up in two weeks and I’m terrified, but excited!
Today was sooo hard. I get so embarrassed when I struggle, and I feel like I should be able to lift 2-3 times more than what I do. But I guess it’s all part of the plan and the process, and I just have to work with it.
Jessie says
I would be creeped out by that decoration! Yikes. The same way I was startled by the “art” of that sleepwalker in Regent’s park. Spooky!
3 am! That is so late…I can’t remember the last time I stayed up that late! I would be ‘knackered.’
Enjoy your festive events! We are staying in London for the holidays so I booked all the Christmas events too…
runswithpugs says
Right! I was terrified LOL.
Yay for holidays in London. That sounds fun!
I was knackered that day and for many days after. I am not a night person.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
OMG on the Halloween dude!! I would have tripped for sure. Looks like a fun week, and I hope the upcoming week was fun too! I’m already planning on how I can monopolize my kid’s time when they are home from college for Christmas break 🙂
Debbie says
HaHa, that Halloween guy would have freaked me out as well. Until I looked closely at the picture, I assumed it was an alligator. LOL
Great job on getting it all done!
