And another holiday is in the rearview mirror, so we dedicate this post to the Thanksgiving Week Rundown. It was a different (and incredible) holiday, in so many ways, and I’m grateful for the wonderful times and adventures we had along the way.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.46 miles, walking
Sunday was off to a great start with a nice walk.
But my mind wasn’t focused on fitness. I was looking forward to our evening… the Candlelight concert. This is a series of musical events in intimate venus, where a string quartet performs by (faux) candlelight. We chose the Hans Zimmer show, with music from Inception, Interstellar, Wonder Woman, and of course, Pirates of the Caribbean. It was phenomenal. Truly one of the best hours I’ve spent in a long time.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.75 miles running + 1.7 miles, ARC trainer
- Strength: Chest + Abs, 50 minutes
No running buddy for me, so I just went out there and got after it.
I started some packing, and went to get my hair colored and cut. No photos, for some reason, but it’s darker and I love it.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.43 miles, walking + 1.97 miles, ARC trainer
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Another super fun day! And last day of the gym for a little while. My legs felt heavy, but I did what I had to do.
It was A’s last day of school for the holiday, and we took him to work, before heading out to check out the Sippin’ Santa holiday pop up preview.
We embraced the hell out of the tiki theme, and enjoyed these adorable cocktails in super cute mugs and glasses, as well as tiki-inspired small bites like Spam fried rice, and teriyaki meatballs. It was perfect, and yes, I bought a souvenir mer-Santa mug for my very own.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 3.25 miles, running + 3.19 miles, walking
It was vacation day! I ran a bit and walked with J a bit.
I debated one last trip to the Y, but I also wanted to pack and get on the road, so opted in for that instead. By the time Mr PugRunner got home, we were almost ready to walk out the door.
Surprise! The pugs came with us!
It was a solid drive to our rental in Charleston, and the pugs did well, even though they don’t travel very often at all.
We got in right around dinner time, and opted to let the pugs settle a bit, before we went to nearly fish camp for a quick dinner of oysters and shrimp. Speaking for myself, I was wiped out from the drive, so wasn’t at all made to call it an early night.
Thursday
- Cardio: Turkey Day Run 5K
Rise and shine!
Meghan met us at our house so we could ride to the Turkey Day Run 5K together. We found parking a few blocks from the start and got ourselves situated with packets and shirts.
We did the race…
And then we had a post race brunch with Bloody Mary’s and pastries.
We headed back to the house to shower and change. Thanksgiving dinner reservations were set for 6:45 so we wanted to explore the city a little. We went to Rainbow Row and Charleston Place.
And then we met up with Meghan and her mom for a traditional turkey dinner.
It was a different night, but lovely nonetheless.
Friday
- Cardio: 2.18 miles, walking
Happy Black Friday. I started the morning by walking the pugs, then walking myself. It was drizzly and gross, but what can you do?
When I got cleaned up, we went into the city for breakfast biscuits, and then looped back to Angel Oak park. Angel Oak is a 500-600 year old oak tree, with the most beautiful, twisting branches. It was really magnificent, and worth the visit, even in the dreary weather.
After lunch and some chill out time at the house, we went back into the city for some better weather and strolling around until dinner.
Saturday
All great things must come to an end, so we packed it up and got back on the road. This trip to Charleston left me super hungry for more, and I’m hoping we can come back soon to really take advantage of it all.
Thoughts + Goals
It’s been quite a month, and it’s still not over. Now we are all about Christmas, and New Year’s, and someone in the house is having his 50th birthday in a few weeks.
How was your last week in training? How was your Thanksgiving week?

Your trip to Charleston sounds fun! My sister and I went there a few years ago for our annual sister trip! We really enjoyed all the sights. We didn’t see the Angel Tree, tho! How did the pugs like their trip?
runswithpugs says
The Angel Oak was stunning. I loved it.
The pugs hated the drive but loved the house. They are COVID puppies, so they are absolute homebodies and don’t really care to be out or about, but once in a while, they are troopers.

It’s been a while since I visited Charleston but I do remember it being a fun city. Your husband looks really good 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving to you all 🙂
runswithpugs says
It’s gorgeous.
He had a good nephrology appointment and is doing well. We are grateful. Happy Thanksgiving!
Jenny says
It looks like your husband did the race with you! How fun. I love spending Thanksgiving at home, but I could see traveling to a cool city and doing it like you did. Maybe one of these years we will! We live so far south, it takes forever to just get out of Florida though. We don’t have as many driving options.
Next up! Christmas!!! I’m Christmas-ing the whole house today!
runswithpugs says
He did. He’s been running a little. It is hard when you live in South Florida – we are coming down to the Keys for his 50th birthday, and it feels like it will take forever lol.
The tree is up and I started the outdoor lights! It’s happening!

What a fun week. I’ve never been to Charleston but I heard it is so nice.
Congrats on another successful race.
runswithpugs says
It’s such a beautiful town. I didn’t want to leave.
Kimberly Hatting says
Looks like a great family trip! I’ve never been to Charleston, but it sounds like a great place to checkout 😉
runswithpugs says
It was wonderful. We weren’t there nearly long enough.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Charleston has been on my list for a while! Glad you had fun there & got to spend time with Meghan.
When we travel we can’t leave Bandit by himself! So it does make traveling with him challenging.
Sounds l8me a great Thanksgiving to me!

I hope you get to visit. There are some great pet-friendly rentals, if the opportunity should arise (the pugs loved ours LOL). The pugs are still puppies and we have several great sitters, so I don’t think they care if we leave. They DO hate the car, though, so that’s hard.

That looks like a fun week for you! How nice to spend Thanksgiving with family while doing a trip together. And no cooking (I assume?)!
Great strength work – 50 mins with only chest and abs sounds tough!
runswithpugs says
zero cooking!
Coco says
It sounds like a nice change of pace for the holiday! We had a low key dinner and while I enjoyed the easier preparation of our “surf and turf” menu, I missed the leftovers the rest of the weekend!
Melissa says
Ooh I haven’t been to Charleston in a few years, but your trip sounds like so much fun! Looks like you all had a fun holiday. Nice job on your strength training – I am notoriously bad about strength training.
Jessie says
I’ve never been to Charleston. It looks lovely! What a fun Thanksgiving and I’m glad the pugs got to come on the adventure! What fun!
Debbie says
It sounds like you had a lovely week! Don’t you just love Charleston? We were there in March (my first time) for spring break. I bet it’s beautiful decorated for Christmas.

I thought maybe your son was going to join in the turkey trot. Does he ever run with you? The teriyaki and spam food sounds delicious!
