As the new year approaches, I’ve been considering my fitness goals and what I should work on. Usually, I am very much “new year, new me,” but after this past year, I think I will approach 2024 a little differently. It’s all about small moves, little changes, and manageable plans. Let’s get into it.
Goal 1: Run One Race Per Month in 2024
I often shoot for 12 races in a year, and 2024 will be no different. The goal is to space them out for at least one event per month, but life happens, and that might not always work out. As it is, January looks a little dicey, with my most convenient option being a beach run. Ick. As long as I hit at least 12, I’ll feel like it was an objective well achieved, even if I have to double up.
Goal 2: Run A Race In State #10
One of my big, long-term goals is to run a race in all 50 states. I don’t know that it’s actually going to happen, but I guess that’s why it’s a goal. At the moment, I am up to nine states, and I would love to hit number ten in 2024. There is zero plan in place: we may be in Tennessee for Spring Break, so that would be an opportunity. Or maybe I could sneak off to New York, Chicago, or DC to earn my state.
Goal 3: Pick Up A Regular Class At The YMCA
Since we joined the YMCA, I am proud to announce that I am a dedicated attendee. Other than a week long break when I had Covid, I make it a point to attend four days a week, completing my assigned app workout, as well as some extra cardio (rower or arc trainer). However, I would love to add in a class, preferably the cardio dance workout. My schedule has been tight, but I think I can make it work.
Goal #4: Register For (And Run) A Half Marathon
It’s time. I was in a really great groove with half marathons before I broke my leg, but then things happened, and I fell off. My last 13.1 miler was in February of 2022, and I am itching to return to the distance. I’m not super concerned with pace or placement. Instead, I just want to go thought the training process and race experience. Again, it means finding the event that speaks to me and getting it done.
Goal #5: Continue To Get Strong
My gym time is definitely yielding results. I feel stronger, can lift more, and see improvements in energy, and even balance. I love it. My goal is to continue on this track, building up and staying consistent. Every day in the gym means another day more powerful, and I love that feeling. Let’s keep it going!
