Happy July! We have hit the halfway point of 2024, and so it’s time to check in to see how we are doing. Fortunately, things are going along nicely, which is exactly what I need.
I’m On Track For One Race A Month
So far, I’ve run eight races this year, so I am two ahead of my race a month preference. While I don’t have specific races picked out for the next six months, I have no doubt I’ll be able to find the perfect ones. This is a goal I’ve kept going for years, and I think it’s a great way to stay motivated.
I’m Working Through My 50 States Goal
At the moment, I have run races in the following states:
- Alabama
- California
- Florida
- Georgia
- Louisiana
- Massachusetts
- North Carolina
- Pennsylvania
- South Carolina
- Virginia
Next up? Tennessee! I still have a ways to go, but if the current trend continues, I can certainly put a dent in this goal!
Strength Training Is Here To Stay
While I still don’t love the gym, I’m very proud to say that I am there at least twice a week. Ideally, I go four times, but lately, extenuating circumstances have made it more challenging. And that’s ok. Consistency is key, for sure. Is it improving my running? I’m not 100% sure about that, but it is good for me, and I’m not hating it quite as much. All good things.
What Are My Goals?
For the second half of the year, I want to stick with what I’m doing. Obviously, right now, running is hard, but I’m doing what I can out there.
I want to start rebuilding my base to make half marathon training a little easier. In that vein, I also want to register for some 10Ks when they become available again (in Florida, we only have 5Ks and maybe a 5 miler in the summer months).
Additionally, I want to keep building strength. I am surely getting stronger, but I want to see some bigger gains, and that can only happen by leaning in and getting it done.
How were your first six months of the year? What do you want to accomplish in the last half of 2024?

Nice job on the races and your 50 states goal! For when are you planning the half marathon?
Great that you’re so diligent with the strength training. Do you join strength classes? I don’t like doing strength, but when I join a class (like Cross Fit), I find it so much more motivating!

I am happy to see you keeping up your strength training and I do think you will eventually enjoy it more as you see gains. Having a 50 states goal is fun!

I love your one-race-a-month goal! I wonder if I can do that next year since there are plenty of races are here. I need to add strength training to my marathon training as well.
